"Normal"? What the hell is normal?
What would be normal to us may not be normal to a being not of this world.
The big problem is we have folks that call others nuts that should be in a straight jacket.
Some of the are called shrinks.
Some if not many students took up the major in school as a way to better understand themselves.
Sad to think just because they study the subject they believe that they are now cured.

I can empathize with your sentiments in post, Walt. Well, theoretically one might arrive at a standard for normality by statistics, simply describing what the majority experiences!

But so far in my reading I have not found a scientific theory of mental health.

Psychiatry at this point works as an unfinished catalogue of mental disorders (and their experimental treatments).

What seems to be lacking is a fundamental understanding of the nature of reality. Stuff like are ghosts and deities real? Same question for aliens and abductions. What is the difference (if any) between right and wrong? AND WHERE'S WE'ALL FROM?? (Don't bother asking yor shrink...)

Yes, and the funny thing is that I scored extremely well at 90% normal on the test given by the police department where I worked, but never told them I saw gray aliens.

Wonder if that would have changed my score?

Walt, not that it matters, but imo it would have. The 'official' position / accepted paradigm is that alien visitors do not exist. So if you met them, you must be delusional. grin

Not the way to go for any job interview. Unless it's for Abduction Therapist or the like!

"Accepted" paradigm is the key to understanding the problem.
GOOD science requires that we accept nothing but explore all.
Now if that has been met with an open mind we may learn.

Dear Purr,
At one time I did make fun of the people claiming to have seen the Lock Ness monster.

Then one day while fishing in the MD bay near Kent Island I saw one and kept the report to myself because I felt bad about my piss poor treatment of others that told me of the critter.
Funny how I am now the target of the same kind of people as I once was.

It seems despite keeping so many things to yourself for such a long time.. you have come a long way in making this turnaround in your life..sometimes you just have to wait ...until the bad karma wears off..may I suggest you go to the people you did this horrible thing to and tell them they were right..then provide us a link..at the same time..it is important Wait...that you FORGIVE YOURSELF..and do penance of some sort to accelerate the healing process..
You are very lucky you stumbled on to UCB, because it is the most forgiving place on the net..thats a fact..
In fact you have gotten the attention of our most forgiving Mod Purr..who just happens to be..an Ordained Cat..Her Forgiveness is legendary!
I know she will forgive me for saying so..She will be the first to tell you we all have flaws..even herself..a lot more grievous than yours..and that the possibility of change is always there for yourself and us.

It would be wise, in my opinion, to avoid making sweeping generalizations of whether or not self-described abductees benefit from mental health services. Some may, some might not, and qualified, professional treatment for trauma and related conditions might be very helpful to some individuals.

Consider, for instance, the case of Allison Lamont Weber. He went on a deadly two-state shooting spree in 2005, killing two people and wounding four more, one of which became paralyzed. His legal defense later explained to the court that his actions were related to his beliefs that aliens were trying to abduct children in his care. Court testimony included that of a seven-year-old girl who described disturbing examples of Weber's apparent beliefs and methods of trying to keep the aliens away.

Here's a summary of the case:

https://web.archive.org/web/20140726140420/http://www.the-two-malcontents.com/2007/05/space-aliens-part-of-shooting-insanity-defense/

...and court documents:

http://courts.delaware.gov/opinions/%280d4zy355zwqwbg55jk32a055%29/download.aspx?ID=123140

Another more recent incident involves 34-year-old Joshua Witman, who set a home he shared with his mother on fire because, attorneys alleged, he believed the basement was a portal for demons and aliens. He was sentenced this month to prison time for his act in which a cat perished:

http://www.wpxi.com/ap/ap/pennsylvania/man-who-blamed-demons-aliens-gets-prison-for-burni/nnkbD/

It's not advisable to discourage people from seeking professional services, discontinue medication and similar such dynamics when we are not qualified to do so. It's also a very bad idea to make or imply such suggestions via the Internet, circumstances of which we do not even know the individuals.

I understand desires to accept esoteric subject matter and reject lines of reasoning that discourage it. I'm just inviting deeper consideration pursuing interests in socially responsible manners, and refraining from either giving or accepting poorly conceived advice via the Internet.

As I was researching somethings in Nevada..I ran into this
and it certainly crystalizes what you said JJ..Its why I stick to mostly political subjects. When someone gets sucked in and they realize it..it may be too late. if you are married and in a similar situation as below..don't file for divorce while living in the same place. Get as far as you can away.
One person in a non ufo case...was married to a guy who had made all kinds of stuff. degrees even and when she found out ..his world collapsed..only he killed the girl and chopped her and put her in a carpet ..ATS had a guy that went off too some time ago..
best leave them to themselves and when they spam a forum with thread after thread..its attention seeking..and disruptive..it will drive away people just looking for nice chat ..
I think that happened to mufon..

Girly Chew Hossencofft (August 27, 1963-c.September 9/10?, 1999) was a Malaysian-born woman who disappeared on c.September 9, 1999 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.[1] The investigation into the murder of Girly Chew uncovered a conspiracy fantasy involving reptilian queens, UFOs and reports of cannibalism.[2][3] Girly Chew's husband Diazien Hossencofft and his girlfriend Linda Henning were convicted of her murder.[1] Girly's body has never been found.[3][4]

People Involved in Incident[edit]

Girly Chew Hossencofft[edit]

Girly Chew was born on August 27, 1963 in Malaysia. During a visit to the United States in the early 1990s, she met Diazien Hossencofft at SeaWorld.[1] In 1993, Girly and Diazien married.[5] The two resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico where Girly was employed as a bank teller.[1] In January 1999, Girly moved out of the couple's home and filed for divorce after a domestic violence incident where Diazien had threatened to kill her. She confided in her co-workers that she was afraid of her husband.[5]

Diazien Hossencofft[edit]

Diazien Hossencofft was born Armand Chavez in Houston, Texas on March 5, 1965.[4] He falsely claimed that he was a thoracic surgeon with degrees from the University of Tokyo and Cornell Medical College.[4] In reality, he was a con artist who had doctored his transcripts and was expelled from medical school.[5] Following his expulsion, he changed his name to Diazien Hossencofft [4] and married Girly Chew. Diazien continued to trick people into believing he was a geneticist who claimed to have leukemia;[5] he sold fake cancer treatments to clients, who would pay thousands of dollars for anti-aging injections. In 1996, he fathered a son with a Japanese woman living in Canada.[1] In 1999, while still married to his wife Girly, he was engaged to three different women, including Linda Henning.[4]

Linda Henning[edit]

Linda Henning was born on October 10, 1953[6] in Hollywood, California. After high school, she worked as a fashion model, and later became a successful fashion designer. In 1999, Linda met Diazien, and she quickly broke up with her fiance and became engaged to Diazien.[1] Linda and Diazien both shared their joint interest for government conspiracy theories and UFOs.[4]

Crime and investigation[edit]

On the morning of September 10, 1999, Girly Chew Hossencofft failed to show up for work. Her co-workers immediately became concerned about Girly's welfare and reported her missing that day.[2] Girly's husband Diazien Hossencofft was the prime suspect in the investigation, but he had left for Charleston, South Carolina that very day.[1] Investigators then focused their attention on Girly Chew's apartment and Diazien Hossencofft's girlfriend, Linda Henning. Inside Girly's apartment, the investigators noticed the smell of bleach.[5] Using luminol, they found considerable blood evidence.

Following the search of Girly Chew's apartment, police questioned Henning, who appeared as a personal reference of Diazien. In her interview, she claimed that she believed that Diazien was an accomplished doctor and that she had no knowledge of Girly Chew Hossencofft's disappearance.[1][5] She later stated to an investigative grand jury that she did not even know Diazien's missing wife, but police were able to prove that she was lying. Investigators showed that Linda had banked at the branch where Girly worked, and that Girly had been Linda's teller on at least one occasion. Linda Henning was charged with perjury for lying to the grand jury in October 1999.[1]

In Henning's home, investigators recovered a ninja sword in her attic, which was purchased on the morning of Girly's murder.[4] Days after Girly Chew's disappearance, her clothing was found on a tarpaulin in Belen, New Mexico. Along with Girly's clothing, investigators discovered a piece of duct tape with Linda Henning's hair attached.[1] She and Diazien Hossencofft were indicted and charged with murder.

Trial[edit]

In January 2002, in an effort to avoid the death penalty, Diazien Hossencofft pled guilty to the murder of his wife.[1] In exchange for his plea bargain, he was sentenced to life in prison plus 61 years to be served in a Wyoming prison.[4]

Linda Henning's murder trial began in September 2002, more than three years after Girly Chew Hossencofft's disappearance. The trial was later televised on CourtTV. She was the first woman in New Mexico history to face capital punishment. Linda's friends believed that she had been brainwashed and drugged by Diazien.[2] Onlookers noted Linda's strange actions as forensic investigators testified for the prosecution.[5]

During the trial, Linda Henning's attorneys Gary Mitchell and Monica Baca called Diazien Hossencofft to testify in Linda's defense. On the stand, he proclaimed that he has masterminded the murder of his wife and that Linda Henning was completely innocent.[7] He claimed that a man named Bill Miller was Girly Chew Hossencofft's true killer, and not Linda Henning as the prosecutors had theorized. Bill Miller had been charged in the investigation, but only with five counts of tampering with evidence.[5] Regarding Linda's blood found in Girly's apartment, Diazien had claimed that he planted her blood there.[7] Even though Diazien testified that he planted Linda's blood in an effort to confuse investigators, Linda's attorney believed that Diazien meant to frame Linda for the crime.[7]

Verdict[edit]

On October 25, 2002, Linda Henning was found guilty of first degree murder. She was also convicted of kidnapping, conspiracy to kidnap, tampering with evidence, and four counts of perjury. Due to the special circumstances of felony murder and kidnapping, Linda faced the death penalty.[1]

Linda Henning's sentencing was held on April 18, 2003.[1] Before her sentencing date, prosecutor Paul Spiers wrote in his presentence investigation report that Linda Henning "had made statements that she had actually consumed the flesh of Girly Chew Hossencofft and that, as a consequence, her remains and body would never be recovered by authorities."[3] Despite the allegation, Linda was not given a death sentence. Instead, she was sentenced to 73 years in prison.[1]

For his role in the crime, Bill Miller received one year of probation.[5]

Thanks, Sys. I was not aware of that saga. Did a bit of searching various terms contained in your post, and it seems Henning promoted belief in Reptilians and such. CNN had some pretty thorough posts on it, as I'm sure could also be found in the footnotes of the Wiki entry you shared. Lots of exploitation taking place in UFO Land.
