If there is one thing that we all have in common with this case, it's that it provokes strong emotions. I don't agree with you Barb but I also don't want to pick at your argument because you are sincere. I personally don't think she is suffering though. I don't think she is anything at all. Despite the family's wishful thinking, 20 doctors have said she in a vegetative state. There is no chance of recovery short of a miracle so why prolong it? It's probably costing 40 thousand a month and we may be trapping a soul that should have ascended by now. But we keep her here. Why? Possibly simply because it makes us feel better and we can. If you don't have one...get a living will or you could end up the same way.

You know I wished I could believe that she is not all there or that she is in a vegetative state. But I have heard she responds and speaks. Even if not clearly. That tells me she is still aware and tries to interact and is not all that completely gone.

There is a tremendous amount of propaganda in this case. That's because everyone is twisting and tweaking the facts to suit their agenda and it's become a struggle in the media. I believe the doctors. She groans and grunts (no speech at all) which the doctors say is reflexive. As are her eye movements. People who want her to be reactive jump on it when she appears to make a noise or movement at the appropriate time. Listen to the doctors involved in the case before the melodrama started. They say there is nothing there.

Out of interest... A link I came across suggesting Terri's brain damage is severe but not as severe as we're being told. http://codeblueblog.blogs.com/codeblueblog/2005/03/csi_medblogs_co.html

Ok...but what about her original doctors? Opposing opinions are flourishing in this case. I would be the first to want her cared for as long as it took to get her back but there's no one saying she will come back. I think it's wrong to keep her alive just because we can. Let nature have it's way and she will continue on to whatever fate awaits us all.

I think what is so upsetting is that she is being allowed to die so slowly and before the eyes of the world. I agree, that if she was going to be allowed to go naturally it should have been done long ago, not fifteen years later. I also heard today that the husband is not going to allow the parents to have her buried near them. This was really upsetting. He has moved on, so he should allow her parents to have her near them. What purpose does it serve for him to have her where he lives? And if it is true that he is really just after the money, I think all that money should be used for the care that was given, etc. He should not have it.

Yes that is the upsetting part. But we do this all the time. Hundreds of people perish because feeding tubes are either never used or withdrawn. It's just that Terri has the world's attention right now for better or worse. What usually is a private matter is now on display.

You like sausage? Never watch it being made then. You like life? Never watch the end of it. It's never pretty and it's what lies ahead for all of us.

If it's true that he's denying the parents to have her buried near them, shame on him. But how can we know the truth with so many outright lies out there? For that matter, I heard there is no money left. Who knows? undecided

I wish he would just let her parents have her and be done with it. Go on with his life, and let them come to terms with her passing.

It would be easier for all concerned but he must have his reasons. We can only guess.
