Tony Kaye on keyboards was from Yes and I think Des Barres went on to be an actor of sorts.
They are trying to sound too much like Zep in that track.

YES<>grinrwu23, you maybe right, I was interested in bands like that back in the day, I did love all the big names and famous bands too, just had a taste for the different.

How many times can you really listen to the best string bender of all time, IMHO.

Variety is the spice of life............I used to be a big fan of both Free and Humble Pie..2 excellent rock bands.
Floyd is awesome...and that's one of the best tracks they ever did.

Great stuff listed there from MOKSHA and drwu23 nice too know other members are on the correct wavelength in sounds here grin Blue Oyster Cult are a cracking band not your ordinary HR/HM outfit but a little more thought provoking especially in their lyrics etc.
Their creative peak was their 70s standards and have never really equalled that period, mysticism and occult leanings as well as their bona fide rock n roll anthems created great songs.
Their crowning glory has to be the stunning Birds influenced epic Don`t Fear The Reaper, even now when I hear this track I stand dead in my tracks, an all time classic HR/HM and all time track regardless of genre in music, sublime, PowerKnight wink

Here's a pretty cool song by U2, if you appreciate slower and more mellow from time to time smiley

I've always liked U2. Thy seem outwardly to be a girly band but they produce some powerful lyrics and good music, IMO

1997

[If you waer that velvet dress]

Tonight, the moon is playing tricks again
I'm feeling seasick again.
The whole world could just dissolve
Into a glass of water.

I've been good, 'cause I know you don't want me to.
Do you really want me to be blue as you?
It's her daylight that gets me through.

We've been here before
Last time you scratched at my door
The moon was naked and cold
I was like a two-year-old
Who just wanted more.

If you wear that velvet dress.
If you wear that velvet dress.

Tonight, the moon's drawn its curtains
It's a private show
No-one else gonna know
I'm wanting.

Sunlight, sunlight fills my room
It's sharp and it's clear
But nothing at all like the moon.

It's okay
The struggle for things not to say
I never listened to you anyway
And I got my own hands to pray.

But if you wear that velvet dress.
If you wear that velvet dress.

Tonight the moon is a mirror-ball
Light flickers from across the hall
Who'll catch the star when it falls.

If you wear that velvet dress

U2 friggin brilliant band never afraid to stick to one rigid formula and very progressive but it works, they are a complete unit one complete chemistry, Actung Baby is my U2 album, checkout The Electric Co from the Boy album I think and performed live on Under A Blood Red Sky.
Now that is sheer manic intensity...thanks to The Edge! Plus The Edge`s incredible Van Diemen`s Land from Rattle And Hum played and sung by The Edge, melancholy poetry which will leave you in tears and beyond...you have been warned! PowerKnight wink

Hi PowerKnight -

I like Achtung Baby too, but that is 2nd to Joshua tree, IMO, but they are both awesome for their originalities. Pop was difficult to wrap my ears around when it first came out in 1997, but it grew on me and now I aprreciate it. smiley

The Ele Co is a good song from Boy. I also like Unforgetable Fire; Pride, Bad, MLK, were all good songs.

Below is a song written in 1973 and yet the message is never more dire today!

John Lennon

[Only People]

Only people just know how to talk to people
Only people know just how to change the world
Only people realize the power of people
A million heads are better than one, so come on, get it on!

Well I know how we tried and the millions of tears that we cried
Now we are hipper we been thru the trip
And we can't be denied with woman and man side by side
Make no mistake it's our future we're making,
bake the cake and eat it too!
We don't want no big brother scene

Well it's long overdue there
ain't nothing better to do
Now we are hipper we been thru the trip
We can fly right on thru, there's nothing on earth we can do
Fish or cut bait it's our future
e're making all together now pull the chain!
We don't want no big brother scene

The Unforgetable Fire was in some ways a prequel to The Joshua Tree and what was to come on The Josuha Tree be it much more a superior recording and one in which launched U2 into superstardom.
Yes it`s an incredible album and probably judged as U2 defining moment, I still go for Achtung Baby it incorporates so many facet`s in their music and just like The Edge said, "It`s the way the songs arrive"
He was spot on, for those who nothing nothing about U2 other than their often at times silly weaker pop songs you haven`t heard their much more serious side and content in them, U2 are about the only political band I can hack because they do it real justice.
Dylan is also an artist I like who can use the political agenda and it works, PowerKnight wink
