heh heh the '80's yielded some interesting rock n' roll...

I forget that band Palmer was a part of, as well as producing solo albums... it's at the tip of my tongue... I can picture the music video in my head... undecided *edit* band's name was T-Rex I think *edit*

Below, another '80's band; Talking Heads

[Burning Down The House]

The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him.

I think Palmer covered Marc Bolan's song "Get It On," which Bolan made famous with T.Rex, but Palmer was never actually part of T.Rex itself (as far as I know.)

The girls in that video I posted (and who also appeared in a number of other Palmer videos) were just known as "The Palmer Girls."

Excellent stuff Lawwalk! For a long time now that has been one of my very favourite videos, and I believe it's the last one Johnny made before he passed.

Ah yes Smersh, I do believe that is correct! smiley

here's a good tune produced by Johnny Cash and U2, from U2's 1993 album titled Zooropa:

[The Wanderer]

I went out walking through streets paved with gold
Lifted some stones, saw the skin and bones
Of a city without a soul

I went out walking under an atomic sky
Where the ground won't turn and the rain it burns
Like the tears when I said goodbye

Yeah, I went with nothing, nothing but the thought of you
I went wandering

I went drifting through the capitals of tin
Where men can't walk or freely talk
And sons turn their fathers in

I stopped outside a church house
Where the citizens like to sit.
They say they want the kingdom
But they don't want God in it

I went out riding down that old eight-lane
I passed a thousand signs looking for my own name
I went with nothing but the thought you'd be there too,
Looking for you

I went out there in search of experience
To taste and to touch and to feel as much
As a man can before he repents

I went out searching, looking for one good man
A spirit who would not bend or break
Who would sit at his father's right hand

I went out walking with a bible and a gun
The word of God lay heavy on my heart
I was sure I was the one

Now Jesus, don't you wait up, Jesus I'll be home soon.
Yeah, I went out for the papers, told her I'd be back by noon

Yeah, I left with nothing but the thought you'd be there too
Looking for you

Yeah, I went with nothing, nothing but the thought of you.
I went wandering

That's a good one too Archangel! grin

I had no idea that Cash and U2 had collborated with that, but Bono did stuff with all kinds of musicians of course. Here he is again - U2 and Pavarotti - "Miserere"

Yeah heh heh, listen for Bono at the end of the song singing in the background cool

Here is a U2 song that Cash covered... 1991 album named; Achtung Baby

[U2 - One]

[Johnny Cash - One]

Is it getting better, or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you, now you got someone to blame?
You say one love, one life, when it's one need in the night.
One love, we get to share it
Leaves you baby if you don't care for it.

Did I disappoint you or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love and you want me to go without.
Well, it's too late tonight to drag the past out into the light.
We're one, but we're not the same.
We get to carry each other, carry each other... one

Have you come here for forgiveness,
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus to the lepers in your head
Did I ask too much, more than a lot
You gave me nothing, now it's all I got.
We're one, but we're not the same.
Well, we hurt each other, then we do it again.

You say love is a temple, love a higher law
Love is a temple, love the higher law.
You ask me to enter, but then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on to what you got, when all you got is hurt.

One love, one blood, one life, you got to do what you should.
One life with each other: sisters, brothers.
One life, but we're not the same.
We get to carry each other, carry each other.
One, one

Here's another good U2 song, Bob Dylan help write this one. from the 1988 Rattle & Hum album;

[Love Rescue Me]

Love rescue me
Come forth and speak to me
Raise me up
And don't let me fall.
No man is my enemy
My own hands imprison me.
Love rescue me.

Many strangers have I met
On the road to my regret
Many lost who seek to find themselves in me.
They ask me to reveal
The very thoughts they would conceal.
Love, rescue me.

And the sun in the sky
Makes a shadow of you and I
Stretching out as the sun sinks in the sea.
I'm here without a name
In the palace of my shame
I said, love, rescue me.

In the cold mirror of a glass
I see my reflection pass
I see the dark shades of what I used to be.
I see the purple of her eyes
The scarlet of my lies.
Love, rescue me.

Yeah, though I walk
In the valley of the shadow
Yet, I will fear no evil.
I have cursed thy rod and staff
They no longer comfort me.
Love, rescue me.

Sha la la la etc.
I said love, love, rescue me.

Yeah, I'm here without a name
In the palace of my shame
I said love, rescue me.

I've conquered my past
The future is here at last
I stand at the entrance to a new world I can see.
The ruins to the right of me
Will soon have lost sight of me.
Love, rescue me.

Does anyone remember the case of Gary Gilmore? In 1977, he became the first person to be executed for murder in the USA for nearly ten years, following a moratorium. Anti capital punishment activists lobbied constantly for him to be spared the death penalty and would quite possibly have succeeded, but Gilmore himself insisted he should be executed and eventually won the day. He was given a choice of death by hanging, or firing squad. He chose to be shot.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/january/17/newsid_2530000/2530413.stm

Two people received Gilmore's corneas within hours of his death, which inspired the Adverts to write this song, which became a UK top 20 hit.

Hey everyonesmiley

I've got a pretty widespread music taste. My favourite genre is metal/rocksmiley

Right now i'm listening to Kings Of Leon, who i've recently gotten into.
