I'm feeling this R.E.M. lately.

It's the end of the world as we know it

That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes,
an aeroplane - Lenny Bruce is not afraid.
Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn,
world serves its own needs, dummy serve your own needs.
Feed it off an aux speak,, grunt, no, strength,
The ladder starts to clatter with fear fight down height.
Wire in a fire, representing seven games, a government for hire and a combat site.
Left of west and coming in a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck.
Team by team reporters baffled, trumped, tethered cropped.
Look at that low playing!
Fine, then.
Uh oh, overflow, population, common food, but it'll do.
Save yourself, serve yourself. World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed dummy with the rapture and the revered and the right - right.
You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light, feeling pretty psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign towers.
Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn.
Locking in, uniforming, book burning, blood letting.
Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate.
Light a candle, light a votive. Step down, step down.
Watch your heel crush, crushed. Uh-oh, this means no fear cavalier.
Renegade steer clear! A tournament, a tournament, a tournament of lies.
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it. (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone) and I feel fine.
(I feel fine)

It's the end of the world as we know it. (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it. (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone) and I feel fine.

The other night I dreamt of knives, continental drift divide. Mountains sit in a line
Leonard Bernstein. Leonid Brezhnev. Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs.
Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom!
You symbiotic, patriotic, slam book neck, right? Right.

It's the end of the world as we know it. (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it. (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone) and I feel fine.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone) and I feel fine.

It's the end of the world as we know it. (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it. (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone) and I feel fine.

It's the end of the world as we know it. (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it. (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone) and I feel fine...

i feel fInE.

Speaking of R.E.M....I've got this tune on the pod right now. One of my faves by this band. Absolutely haunting.

E-Bow The Letter

Look up, what do you see? All of you and all of me
Fluorescent and starry
Some of them, they surprise
The bus ride, I went to write this, 4:00 a.m, this letter
Fields of poppies, little pearls
All the boys and all the girls sweet-toothed
Each and every one a little scary
I said your name

I wore it like a batch of teenage film stars
Hash bars, cherry mash and tinfoil tiaras
Dreaming of Maria Callas, whoever she is
This fame thing, I don't get it
I wrap my hand in plastic to try to look through it
Maybelline eyes and girl-as-boy moves
I can take you far
This star thing, I don't get it

I'll take you over there
I'll take you over there
Aluminum, tastes like fear
Adrenaline, it pulls us near
I'll take you over
It tastes like fear there, I'll take you over

Will you live to 83? Will you ever welcome me?
Will you show me something that nobody else has seen?
Smoke it, drink, here comes the flood
Anything to thin the blood
These corrosives do their magic slowly and sweet
Phone, eat it, drink, just another chink
Cuts and dents, they catch the light
Aluminum, the weakest link
I don't want to disappoint you
I'm not here to anoint you, I would lick your feet
But is that the sickest move?
I wear my own crown and sadness and sorrow
And who'd have thought tomorrow could be so strange?
My loss, and here we go again

I'll take you over there
I'll take you over there
Aluminum, tastes like fear
Adrenaline, it pulls us near
I'll take you over
It tastes like fear there, it holds us near
I'll take you over

Look up, what do you see? All of you and all of me
Fluorescent and starry
Some of them, they surprise
I can't look it in the eyes
Seconal, spanish fly, absinthe, kerosene
Cherry-flavored neck and collar
I can smell the sorrow on your breath
The sweat, the victory and sorrow, the smell of fear
I got it

I'll take you over there
I'll take you over there
Aluminum, tastes like fear
Adrenaline, it pulls us near
I'll take you over it tastes like fear there
I'll take you over

Pulls us near
Tastes like fear..

Nearer, nearer
over, over, over, over
Yeah, look over
I'll take you there, oh, yeah
I'll take you there
Oh, over
I'll take you there
Over, let me
I'll take you there..
There, there, baby, yeah

Been on a Dylan kick for the past several days. Mostly tracks from Blood On The Tracks... Buckets Of Rain, You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go....
Shelter From The Storm... and some earlier works as well, such as the achingly beautiful Tomorrow Is A Long Time and the heart-tearing Go Away From My Window.
Guess my head (and heart) are in a melancholy space...

My mistake... the last song is called It Ain't Me Babe.
Go 'way from my window is one of the lyric lines...

I recently came across a band from the nineties that I had forgotten about called Catherine Wheel.

Gov’t Mule - after the Allman Brothers split up, the remaining band members started this band. Apparently has been ongoing for several years…although I just discovered them. I really like these guys . They are more of an “extended jam session” band the likes of that haven’t been seen since the 70’s. Dual lead guitars, great vocals and a touch of organ / piano w/ a lot bluesy-southern rock hooks. I stumbled onto them in the ipod database.

Free – all time classic rock band. Old stuff, but man, can Paul Rodgers belt out a tune or not?

Bad Company – more Paul Rodgers lead vocals

Linkin Park, Neil Young, Third Eye Blind among others.

I just recently received in the mail a CD I ordered made up for me from an old (OLD!) vinyl album recording released around 1969 or 70 I believe by actor/singer Michael Parks (the guy who starred in the short-lived series Then Came Bronson) called Long Lonesome Highway. It's a very good rendition... no pops, hisses, or distortions... cleanly reproduced under studio conditions by an outfit called Vinyl Revolution. It's not a cheap process (I think shipping included I paid $85 for it, but you get the original vinyl album and jacket, plus the newly recorded top quality CD), but for a Michael Parks fan like myself, it was worth every penny! I just stumbled on the website for these folks, and I lucked out. If anyone is interested in purchasing a hard-to-find (in this case non-existent!) CD recording of an old album, the web address for these guys is:
www.vinylrevolution.com
They are located in Butte, MT., and I can attest to the quality of their work smiley

The Outlaws / Green Grass and High Tides

In a place you only dream of, where your soul is always free
Silver stages, golden curtains, filled my head plain as could be
As a rainbow grew around the sun, all the stars I've loved, who died
Came from somewhere beyond the scene you see, these lovely people played just for me

Now if I let you see this place where stories all ring true
Then will you let me past your face to see what's really you
It's not for me I ask this question as though I were a king
For you have to love, believe and feel, before the burst of tambourines take you there

{Refrain}
Green grass and high tides forever
Castles of stone, soul and glory
Lost faces say we adore you
As kings and queens bow and play for you

Those who don't believe me, find your souls and set them free
Those who do, believe and know that time will be your key
Time and time again I've thanked them for a peace of mind
That helped me find myself amongst the music and the rhyme that enchants you there
