The Outlaws / Green Grass and High Tides

In a place you only dream of, where your soul is always free
Silver stages, golden curtains, filled my head plain as could be
As a rainbow grew around the sun, all the stars I've loved, who died
Came from somewhere beyond the scene you see, these lovely people played just for me

Now if I let you see this place where stories all ring true
Then will you let me past your face to see what's really you
It's not for me I ask this question as though I were a king
For you have to love, believe and feel, before the burst of tambourines take you there

{Refrain}
Green grass and high tides forever
Castles of stone, soul and glory
Lost faces say we adore you
As kings and queens bow and play for you

Those who don't believe me, find your souls and set them free
Those who do, believe and know that time will be your key
Time and time again I've thanked them for a peace of mind
That helped me find myself amongst the music and the rhyme that enchants you there

Hi Raf!

Geez RAF, you're really showing your age!
I love that tune tho and still have to pick it on the guitar.
Thanx for posting it tho, I had forgotten most of the lyrics. I saw the Outlaws back in the '70's, they ROCKED!! Oops, now who looks old...

S.O.L.F.A. sound (utilzing the Solfeggio scale)... peaceful, meditative, and soothing, plus purported to have physical healing properties, as well as the benefits of spiritual quickening. After that, it'll be back to Michael Parks' Long Lonesome Highway smiley

I usually keep mine on random play, so I will have a mix of The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Eagles, Peter Paul and Mary, Thelonius Monk, James Taylor, Night Blooming Jazzmen, George Clinton, and a couple dozen other artists of different genres, interspersed with local artists.

About the only thing I do not listen to is rap and heavy metal.

I have audiobooks for my daily commute.

Sounds like a nice variety. I LOVE Peter, Paul & Mary! Saw them live in concert many times in the "old days", and let me tell you, they were consumate musicians. They sounded every bit as good in person as they did on their records... better! Plus their hearts were totally in what they did, and they drew their audience in as participants as well. A PP & M concert was not just a
night of entertainment... it was a cause!

I often am on my computer very early in the morning before anyone else in my household is awake, so i can't play music, but I'm a music addict, so even when I an't play it out loud, I hear the strains of it in my head smiley I even have a set of hand made tiny brass windchimes hanging from the rear view mirror in my car... how "California" is that??!!!!

I sometimes even like to listen to classical on the PBS stations. [Pssst! I don't listen to heavy metal or rap either. Music is defined as organized sound, directed toward beauty. By definition, heavy metal and rap don't qualify! wink ]

Carol --

I should have added classical to my abbreviated list above of my favorite genres.

My wife sings semi-professionally. She is currently rehearsing the choral parts of Beethoven's 9th, being performed by the local symphony orchestra (smallest city in America with its own orchestra). It is a difficult piece to learn and sing, and of course they are singing in German, not a translation.

Another awesome classic by Ozzy and Co. This song really kicks into gear at about 3:09 minute mark. Just some really great rock & roll, if you ask me. Yeah the lyrics are sick, but it's the Oz-Man... this song is most notable for it's music!

Band: Black Sabbath
Year: 1975
Album: Sabotage

[Megolamania]

I hide myself inside the shadows of shame
The silent symphonies were playing their game
My body echoed to the dreams of my soul
This god is something that I could not control

Where can I run to now?
The joke is on me
No sympathizing god is insanity, yeah
Why don't you just get out of my life, yeah?
Why don't you just get out of my life now?
Why doesn't everybody leave me alone now?
Why doesn't everybody leave me alone, yeah?

Obsessed with fantasy, possessed with my schemes
I mixed reality with super-rod dreams
The ghost of violence was something I seen
I sold my soul to be the human obscene

How could this poison be
The dream of my soul
How did my fantasies take complete control, yeah?
Why don't you just get out of my life, yeah?
Why don't you just get out of my life now?
Why doesn't everybody leave me alone now?
Why doesn't everybody leave me alone, yeah?

Well I feel something's taken me I don't know where
It's like a trip inside a separate mind
The ghost of tomorrow from my favorite dream
Is telling me to leave it all behind
Feel it slipping away, slipping in tomorrow
Got to get to happiness, want no more of sorrow

How I lied, went to hide
How I tried to get away from you now
Am I right if I fight?
That I might just get away from you now
Sting me!

Well I feel something's giving me the chance to return
It's giving me the chance of saving my soul
Beating the demigod, I'm fading away
I'm going backwards but I'm in control
Feel it slipping away, slipping in tomorrow
Getting back to sanity, providence of sorrow

Was it wise to disguise
How I tried to get away from you now
Is there a way that I could pay
Or is it true I have to stay with you now?

How I lied, went to hide
How I tried to get away from you now
Am I right if I fight?
That I might just get away from you now

I'm really digging schizophrenia the best of the earth
I've singed my soul in the fires of hell
Peace of mind eluded me, but now it's all mine
I simply try, but he wants me to fail
Feel it slipping away, slipping in tomorrow
Now I've found my happiness, providence of sorrow

No more lies, I got wise
I despise the way I worshiped you yeah
Now I'm free, can't you see
And now instead I won't be led by you now
Free!

Hi Dave!

I'm an amature singer... i.e., I sing for my own joy/pleasure and am not good enough to do so professionally! I'm greatly impressed by people like your wife who have the gift or talent to perform before others smiley

I've been listening to quite a bit of new and alternative rock lately. I had pretty much given up on the genre for many years and had fallen back into my old mainstay of the 60 &70's.

But there are some good bands coming up these days. One of my favorites is Nickelback. Canadian band out of Calgary, I believe. The lead singer's raspy vocals are backed up with great harmony from the other member of the band. Great musicians too.

I really like the following.

Raf

"If Everyone Cared"

From underneath the trees, we watch the sky
Confusing stars for satellites
I never dreamed that you'd be mine
But here we are, we're here tonight

Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive

[Chorus:]
If everyone cared and nobody cried
If everyone loved and nobody lied
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride
Then we'd see the day when nobody died

And I'm singing

Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive
Amen I, Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive

And in the air the fireflies
Our only light in paradise
We'll show the world they were wrong
And teach them all to sing along

Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
(I'm alive)

[Chorus x2]

And as we lie beneath the stars
We realize how small we are
If they could love like you and me
Imagine what the world could be

If everyone cared and nobody cried
If everyone loved and nobody lied
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride
Then we'd see the day when nobody died
When nobody died...

[Chorus]

We'd see the day, we'd see the day
When nobody died
We'd see the day, we'd see the day
When nobody died
We'd see the day when nobody died

Maybe...not sure. Thats part of the problem. They've got a really good alternative rock station in the area. And I'm finding a lot of music I like,,,,except, I have no idea who they are, LOL

I'll look them up though, CH.

Thanks,

Raf
