No..I agree that once the core players leave it's just not the same sound .
I thought Yes was solid until after Going For The One...
Tormato and the rest just didn't have that same feel. But many of the core people were on the later ones.

You're absolutely right. There was a point where they simply weren't the same anymore. Despite, as you pointed out, having a decent sampling of core people. But sometimes a band's sound is heavily dependent on every member. Even drummers and bass players. In some cases, especially drummers and bass players. It just depends on how creative they are, doesn't it? And at other times just one member is important. Might I offer Elf for an example? Of course they highly benefited (for one album) when they added Blackmore and changed their name, but for years before that Dio proved to be the important factor.

Yeah, that's been a while. A long while. They were good though.

You seem to remember a lot/most of that stuff. Most people don't. I can remember when I first heard a smattering of that sound, under the Animals tag. I can still remember the night Hendrix almost knocked me out of bed too. It was like WTF IS THAT? After those first folks kicked the door down, we certainly got a lot of great music for a lot of years.

I was just remembering another band I used to listen to. Gentle Giant, ever get into their music?

True. But the same can be said for much of the music we've been discussing. Like Genesis from the Peter Gabriel days. The fact that you have some of their music answers my question though.

You only have a couple of years on me. Aside from the fact that I've developed this thing some people call a gift which has forced me over to the center of the political road, I'd say we're pretty much the same. And political stance is but a minor issue for people born in that era. Those political views often swing to what makes sense the bulk of the time anyway. It was a great time to grow up in my opinion. Now if we could only have a chain of 300,000 strong outdoor festivals in our present day and age .............

Well when it comes to music I tend to live in the past. I'm not Ga-Ga over Lady Ga-Ga or many others.
