Zappa, would play this very small place 3 times a night, south side of Chicago, he was good, but no way, better then, Schenkler, Roth,
I also got issues with the ranking, Gilmore at 14?
any way thanks for the stuff

I like Zappas music and own most of his cd's...but I agree that technically he's no better than them but it's also different styles of music especially his later stuff which became jazzy.

One of my favorite guitar pieces by zappa...

Gotta love a rocker who has a xylophone in his band. smiley

I always thought Zappa should have starred in a movie about Tesla, but now they are both gone...

Those polls have always baffled me to be honest and they have become very silly but I`m not bothered anymore.
Fair enough this list wasn`t a bad one but some are a complete joke, I mean Blackmore number 50...come on, got so use to them it ain`t worth getting stressed over them anymore! PowerKnight wink

My top ten personal list of rock/pop lp/cd's I would take to the moon. Not a best of rock list like you might see in Rolling Stone but ones that I always liked over the years. Hard to keep it to ten. Try not to list best of's.
--------

Beatles- Abbey Road
Rolling Stones- Let It Bleed
The Who- Who's Next
Pink Floyd-Dark Side Of Th Moon
Yes- Close To The Edge
Led Zep- 'Zoso' 4th lp
Jethro Tull- Benefit
King Crimson- In the Court Of
Genesis- Selling England By the Pound
Jefferson Airplane-Volunteers

Neat list there buddy, phew a personal fave and best list from myself would probably include a couple of bands or artists most might not ever have heard of.
There again I have a couple of certs that are a little more heard of, anyway out of everything music-
Rainbow/Rising...it really doesen`t get any better than this masterpiece, it`s not just all in here including the kitchen sink, it`s the battle of the Gods stuff.
And Rainbow from that time came out the winners...a neo-classical fusion of hard rock/metal combined with a fantasy line up that was a reality. The classic MK II line up of Blackmore/Dio/Powell/Bain/Carey along with the staggering Stargazer is yet to be equalled or bettered.
The whole package including the artwork inner sleeve concept and idea they even threw in a full orchestra to back up Stargazer.
But live on their Rising tour of late 75-76 it took on another dimension of sight and sound...the ultimate benchmark etched in stone forever.
I see a Rainbow Rising...look there on the horizon, thank you Ronnie for defying the laws of the vocal cords, sadly missed, PowerKnight wink

I saw Willy Nile and his band play at a small club in Ruislip I go to sometimes a few weeks ago. Somebody filmed and posted a song on Youtube he played from the same gig when Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols) joined him on stage.

Lynryd Skynyrd good ole southern boys and the best of all the American southern music bands. Freebird is the all time classic but what a tragedy to happen to a great band and a great bunch of guys. How unfair was what, anyone remember The Outlaws from the 70s, similar southern boogie band and never got the recognition they deserved, PowerKnight wink

Au contraire...The Allman Bros Band make them look like amateurs imo. They could play circles around Skynyrd.

grin

I hear you drwu23, never picked up on them and probably should have you know what`s it like the musical spectrum of the bands past and present. There always going to be misses and winners, I guess I missed these and as I have gained a very wide musical taste over the years. I just can`t keep on top of all of them, PowerKnight wink
