Narareth can never be compared to Zeppelin which is common sense but they were a real cracking band. Their cover My White Bicycle from Tomorrow`s track was friggin brill, by the mid 70s Zep`s best years were behind them.

They have to do with the critics Wu. Don't you remember when they walked off with the Grammys, then it was discovered that they not only had not written their own music, but had not even sang on their album? They couldn't sing, and could not play a note of music. But they had many awards bestowed on them by the top critics in the industry. So much for critics knowing how to do their jobs eh?

Nothing to do with Zep and some critics are lousy just like some musicians...*cough..nazareth..cough*

All bands fade after time....not limited to any one band so it's a moot point imo.
I actually have the Tomorrow lp on cd...I collect old psych and prog.....I'll give a listen to Nazareth's version of that track.

For all you keyboard fans......can anyone tell me without having to look it up how these guys are 'related' to both Deep Purple and Rainbow?

Mick Underwood had connections with both Gillan and Glover in Episode Six and worked with Gillan`s band, Rainbow coverered Black Sheep Of The Family on their debut album. But it didn`t touch the original, not a bad band Quatermass, PowerKnight wink

When Jonny made his change in style, I wondered why, but he has mixed some styles together, he is IMHO one great artist.

You would probably be talking about the Santa Barbara Machine Head, although you may be thinking about Purple under their original name of Roundabout, which was still two members shy of developing the classic Purple sound associated with their Mark II, and I guess you could say Mark IV lineup as well. Hard to tell, he was working with many different musicians at the time.

Blackmore fans would be disappointed to hear the Machine Head stuff, as it reveals the true origins of the Purple sound, even though he was still several years away from kicking the Leslies to the curb and hooking direct to a Marshal Amp. That more than anything else was what helped him finally create his definitive style. Although I know of nobody else who figured out how to create distortion with a tone wheel Hammond by simply overdriving the amp. Under any circumstance I've seen, this produces a sound which would make a sick hippo sound good. Too much overdrive with tone wheels.

Any point in this drive through yesteryear? Besides possibly pointing out how dismal the post 65-75 era crop of keyboard players has been? They seem to have trailed off heavily after that period for some reason.

Yes, but he hides his inspiration for his lyrics very well in my opinion. He had lyrics full of life lessons at an early age which could have only been written by somebody, well, more experienced in life. I've always puzzled on this.

A very good blues player yes. He is slipping from that blues style somewhat though.
