Never been more serious drwu23...in my later years of life I have developed a taste in exotica and nostalgia, ask any serious music collector and they could well end up saying the same thing!
I love the crooners, Sinatra was the best, he had a unique interpretation and delivery, timeless and classic stuff now of a bygone age.
Andy Williams is a legend, super voice and super songs but I don`t think it`s your cup of tea! PowerKnight wink

I appreciate the vocal abilities of the old crooners but the songs are simply too trite for me to enjoy on any regular basis. Some of Sinatra's stuff is cool but in general it's a bit too corny.
I do like jazz: post bop, 50's and 60's cool jazz, and later modern jazz fusion.

I`d like to call it as I often do candyfloss music, it takes me into another world in a different time setting. Very often I just like to escape in music with no conceptual meaning no virtuoso warblings and just listen to what it is and the simple message it conveyed.
These guys were the real biz at it and yes very often very corny sounding, I`m not bothered anymore about what other people think about my tastes...my mates!
They think I`m bonkers, but hey you want to hear some of the s**t they actually think is cool and hip and listen to, modern music.
Directionless and many of them need a few uppers before they perform and sing, a few more uppers during the break and the best bet overdose in their own lethargy and fake angst after they have done whatever they were trying to do!
The romance in the mainstream charts is over, there is no imagination left, it`s over run by indie tripe and reality TV stars and daft boy bands. PowerKnight wink

Okay just checked this out and I`m very surprised...yes I like it the lyrics are very emotive but also the vocal delivered, it`s a very cool track.
A fine well played song, it sounds very contemporary of today`s sound and style, am I right? Don`t know anything about this band but it sounds recent, PowerKnight wink

It's about 10 years old...they are still making cd's and Wilson also does solo cd's. Porcupine Tree are very good imo...did you look at the other video by them?
He is friends with Fripp and remastered most of the early Crimson cd's and is now going to remaster the ELP catalog.

There is an old Hollywood legend that Andy Williams dubbed in the singing voice of Lauren Bacall in movies like To Have and Have Not. It actually was Bacall singing but, if you listen with your eyes closed, you can understand how the rumor got started. smiley

The crooner age back in it`s heyday was very popular but then mostly from that generation were the real listeners and buyers. It faded with time but it`s gained popularity status again and become quite in fashion again, the advertising industry has promoted this along with many other different themes in music.
Very often social climates inspire people but the last decade or so is very bleak and very depressing, it`s really having a negative effect.
Other than a few artists or bands people seem to have lost sight in imagination in music, this is what it`s all about, you don`t have to be a virtuoso musican but a competent player can be enough.
Todays take on singers is very bad, there are so many bands around but the singers are dreadful, they all sound very generic and many just don`t have the talent to really be a singer/frontman.
I know of a few younger generation to tell me well the current music scene is a lot more individual and different, yeh so what anyone can be individual and different but hell you have to have actual talent and produce something as original as you can and it has to sound like music.
I`ll tell you I`m not a musician and maybe I should have been but I have a very fertile imagination in the arts etc but many seem to lack this for what it`s worth, PowerKnight wink

Operation Mindcrime was both their musical and creative peak, sadly the sequel Mindcrime II although I have heard very little apparently doesen`t touch the first one? The very early Queensryche was standard HR/HM but on each release after kept progressing into different avenues in this genre, Geoff Tate/vocalist has a near operatic falsetto who was once deciding whether to go into opera singing or HR/HM. He chose the latter, the right choice! PowerKnight wink
