http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-04-25/2000x-normal-radiation-found-tokyo-playground-officials-deny-any-link-fukushima

When a specially-designed robot dies within 3 hours of being exposed to Fukushima's radiation, it is clear something is not quite as propagandized in Japan; and today, as SCMP reports, extremely high levels of radiation have been discovered in a children's playground in Tokyo. While two hours of exposure to a child would be equivalent to the maximum does allowable in a year, Japanese officials say they do not think it is connected to the disaster at Fukushima. We are not sure whether that is supposed to reassure or terrorize locals?

Soil underneath a slide at the children's playground in the northwest of the Japanese capital showed radiation readings of up to 480 microsieverts per hour, the local administrative office said.

The radiation level is over 2,000 times that at which the national government requires soil cleaning in areas around the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, where reactors melted down after the March 2011 tsunami.

Anyone directly exposed to this level would absorb in two hours the maximum dose of radiation Japan recommends in a year.

"Many children play in the park daily, so the ward office should explain the situation," Kyodo News quoted a 62-year-old local woman as saying.

...

The park was built in 2013, two years after the Fukushima nuclear crisis, a local official said, on what was previously a parking lot for Tokyo's sanitation department. Top soil at the lot was replaced before the land was turned into a park, said the Toshima official.

Many families in eastern Japan continue to survey the levels of radioactive contamination around their houses, distrustful of government assurances that most places had not been affected by the Fukushima nuclear meltdown.

Such efforts have led some people to discover radioactive materials that had been dumped in their neighbourhoods.

* * *
Coming days after a radioactive drone was discovered atop PM Abe's office building, one has to wonder just what the people are trying to tell everyone... that the government is suppressing so strictly.

Description

Four years after disaster struck at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, a United Nations watchdog organization has highlighted remaining dangers at the plant, including the possibility of a hydrogen explosion, while criticizing its operators for their lack of preparedness. Despite the ongoing risks, Japan's ruling government plans to allow most former residents to return to the region in the near future. After a tsunami flooded the plant in 2011, thousands of gallons of water were used to cool the six nuclear reactors - three of which had suffered a meltdown. Now held in 1,307 containers at the plant, it appears the radioactive water is leaking, according to a report by the plant's operator, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), given to Japan's Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NRA) on Friday. TEPCO inspected 278 of the water containers and found that at least 26 are leak. The leaks are likely caused by accumulating hydrogen and other gases, an issue that's raising alarm among government officials. "If the concentration level is high, a spark caused by static electricity could cause a container to [explode]," said a representative of the NRA. In response, TEPCO officials expressed their belief that the risk of an explosion was minimal. "We think the possibility of an occurrence of hydrogen explosion from these storage facilities is extremely low, since there is no fire origin, or anything that generates static electricity nearby," a company spokesperson told IBTimes UK. But a U.N. agency report calls into question TEPCO's ability to adequately judge risks. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), based out of Vienna, recently criticized the lack of safety precautions taken to prevent damage caused by earthquakes and tsunamis. According to the IAEA report, TEPCO and the Japanese government received ample warning that the facilities were vulnerable, and that existing safety precautions were inadequate to allow for very rare, but still possible tsunamis of extreme height and strength. The IAEA wrote: "The operators were not fully prepared for the multi-unit loss of power and the loss of cooling caused by the tsunami. Although TEPCO had developed severe accident management guidelines, they did not cover such an unlikely combination of events."

Against the objections of environmental experts and Japanese fishermen, the IAEA also said TEPCO may need to reconsider controlled dumping of the contaminated water into the ocean. ''TEPCO is advised to perform an assessment of the potential radiological impact to the population and the environment arising from the release of water containing tritium and any other residual radionuclides to the sea," IAEA scientists said earlier this month. But release of radiation and waste from Fukushima has caused worldwide concern over the safety of Japanese food products, even forcing the country to take South Korea to court over import restrictions. The 2011 meltdown forced the evacuation of Okuma, the community where the plant was located, as well as many other communities in the Fukushima region.

ZETAR,

IT'S A NON STARTER.

I HAVE BEEN TELLING YOU GUYS TO LOOK AT THE RADIATION COUNTER SITE FOR MONTHS. THERE ARE NO OUT OF THE ORDINARY READINGS ON THE WEST COAST.

IF ANYTHING, THE CENTRAL AREA OF THE US IS SLIGHTLY HIGHER IN PLACES THAN IT WAS A YEAR AGO,

If I may,,,,

Hi Hal. smiley

The Radiation Network is a fairly good source, especially when other sources are ~unavailable~. I sincerely give those monitoring independently a kudos for their voluntary efforts ! I've been keeping up with that site and others for the past several years now. Notice the Alerts : wink
http://radiationnetwork.com/Message.htm

Another site, similar to that network, is :
http://www.blackcatsystems.com/RadMap/map.html

Do you see a difference in the readings ?

Notice again on the radiation network :

Quote:
*Readings not Equalized means the Monitoring Stations are broadcasting the raw radiation count from their Geiger counters, without adjustment for different count rates existing between various Geiger counter designs. For instance, models built around a "Pancake" (see Map Legend) style of Geiger-Mueller tube typically have about a 3 times count rate over Standard tubed models, so their readings in CPM would be expected to average about 3 times higher, anyway

Notice also that various detectors only pick up certain types of radiation.
Also, consider the jet stream. These are only ground based.

Along with the exposure that was detected airborne on parts of the West coast after the incident at Fukushima (remember the half life of particles), one of my personal concerns at this recent point is that radiation counts on Western shores ( although minimal at this time yet detectable according to sources) will increase as time passes due to currents (Just a personal guess) . There have been some ongoing major leaks .
I'm also concerned for the people of Japan, and all other people who have been exposed to this incident and all others throughout the past. Much of those occurances could have been prevented. I hope that the NRC will enforce strict(er) regulations on all nuclear power plants, especially the older ones. Time will tell as to the effects to the ocean.
There are many variables,,,,,,,I'm not an expert on this,,,,,,

Here's another monitoring site,,,,,the EPA rolleyes
http://www2.epa.gov/radnet/near-real-time-and-laboratory-data-state

Just my dose centavos amigo undecided

Cliff,

...Notice also that various detectors only pick up certain types of radiation.
Also, consider the jet stream. These are only ground based.
..

Surely the types that are a risk, or there would be no point in monitoring. Also while they are on the ground, so are we. So are we.

It doesn't really matter if the detectors are not all reading exactly the same. Suppose you and I each have a thermometer outside our homes to measure temperature. You tell me that it is 20 C today, I find mine also reads 20 C.
This doesn't mean that the temperature is the same . Unless we have calibrated both thermometers against the same standard.

But if my thermometer shows an increase of three degrees the next day, and so does yours, we an be fairly sure that we are both experiencing the same increase.

Likewise the radiation counters are to be treated as relative. It is the changes that matters.

I've read the caveats and can only suggest that some day there is a person who goes around all the sites with a standard radiation source of the correct type and logs all the reorder differences against it. If published this would allow us to adjust for error.

It's all very interesting. And I wish there were more in the UK. I'll have a look at that other site later.

It should be possible to do a fairly simple monitoring of the local situation by checking the rain water. I don't know what equipment would be needed, but it probably won't be too expensive. Maybe I'll look into that.

We had problems over here when the Russia (Chernobyl) reactor blew up. The cloud of contamination passed over us and made some Welsh lamb uneatable for years. radioactive grass.

To whom it may concern,

...Surely the types that are a risk, or there would be no point in monitoring. Also while they are on the ground, so are we. So are we. ..

That is a cut and paste from post 248 above.

Now , I know I am getting old, but I can't see me repeating myself in the manner highlighted.

In fact I don't recall writing anything about both us and the detectors being on the ground.

So, who ever doctored the post, please don't do it again.

I don't want to have to keep a separate record of everything I post just so I can compare them with people's quotes.

The other possibility is just too grizzly to contemplate.

Thanking you all in advance.

Hal if a moderator edited or changed your post it would say edited by GForce, LGM, Purr etc. The post in question said edited by you. If you didn't change it then I'm not sure what happened. If I were you and you didn't edit it then you should change your password. Lone brought this to my attention and I did look at the post.
