that economy..that once thriving economy now a basket case thanx to our meddling, setting off conflicts then running away from them.u attack islam for the sake of being Islam..I dont

At this moment we have US backed groups shooting US backed goups shooting at isis that was also us backed. Cia groups shooting at DOD sponsored groups. Calling me a leftist not only innaccurate but trifling. The Tenacity you branded me with is sticking with reality and the facts on the ground..I make no apologies for that.

Eric-Margolis
What a mess! In the crazy Syrian war, US-backed and armed groups are fighting other US-backed rebel groups. How can this be?

It is so because the Obama White House had stirred up war in Syria but then lost control of the process. When the US has a strong president, he can usually keep the military and intelligence agencies on a tight leash.

But the Obama administration has had a weak secretary of defense and a bunch of lady strategists who are the worst military commanders since Louis XV, who put his mistress, Madame de Pompadour, in charge of French military forces during the Seven Year's War. The French were routed by the Prussians. France's foe, Frederick the Great of Prussia, named one of his dogs, "la Pompadour."

As a result, the two arms of offensive US strategic power, the Pentagon and CIA, went separate ways in Syria. Growing competition between the US military and militarized CIA broke into the open in Syria.

Fed up with the astounding incompetence of the White House, the US military launched and supported its own rebel groups in Syria, while CIA did the same.

Fighting soon after erupted in Syria and Iraq between the US-backed groups. US Special Forces joined the fighting in Syria, Iraq and most lately, Libya.

The well-publicized atrocities, like mass murders and decapitations, greatly embarrassed Washington, making it harder to portray their jihadi wildmen as liberators. The only thing exceptional about US policy in Syria was its astounding incompetence.

Few can keep track of the 1,000 groups of jihadis that keep changing their names and shifting alliances. Throw in Turkomans, Yzidis, Armenians, Nestorians, Druze, Circassians, Alawis, Assyrians and Palestinians. Oh yes, and the Alevis.

Meanwhile, ISIS was inflicting mayhem on Syria and Iraq. But who really is ISIS? A few thousand twenty-something hooligans with little knowledge of Islam but a burning desire to dynamite the existing order and a sharp media sense. The leadership of these turbaned anarchists appears to have formed in US prison camps in Afghanistan.

The US, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey armed and financed ISIS as a weapon to unleash on Syria, which was an ally of Iran that refused to take orders from the Western powers. The west bears heavy responsibility for the deaths of 450,000 Syrians, at least half the nation of 23 million becoming refugees, and destruction of this once lovely country.

At some point, ISIS shook off its western tutors and literally ran amok. But the US has not yet made a concerted attempt to crush ISIS because of its continuing usefulness in Syria and in the US, where ISIS has become the favorite whipping boy of politicians.

Next come the Kurds, an ancient Indo-European stateless people spread across Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria. They have been denied a national state by the western powers since WWI. Kurdish rebels in Iraq have been armed and financed by Israel since the 1970's.

When America's Arab jihadists proved militarily feeble, the US turned to the Kurds, who are renowned fighters, arming and financing the Kurdish Syrian YPG which is part of the well-known PKK rebel group that fights Turkey.

I covered the Turkish-Kurdish conflict in eastern Anatolia in the 1980's in which some 40,000 died. Turkey is now again battling a rising wave of Kurdish attacks that caused the Turks to probe into northern Syria to prevent a link-up of advancing Kurdish rebel forces.
o, Turkey, a key American ally, is now battling CIA-backed Kurdish groups in Syria. Eighty percent of Turks believe the recent failed coup in Turkey was mounted by the US -- not the White House, but by the Pentagon which has always been joined at the hip to Turkey's military.

This major Turkish-Kurdish crisis was perfectly predictable, but the obtuse junior warriors of the Obama administration failed to grasp this point.

Now the Russians have entered the fray in an effort to prevent their ally, Bashar Assad, from being overthrow by western powers. Also perfectly predictable. Russia claimed to be bombing ISIS but in fact is targeting US-backed groups. Washington is outraged that the wicked Russians are doing in the Mideast what the US has done for decades.

The US and Russia now both claim to have killed a senior ISIS commander in an air strike. Their warplanes are dodging one another, creating a perfect scenario for a head-on clash at a time when neocons in the US are agitating for war with Russia.

Does anyone think poor, demolished Syria is worth the price? Hatred for the US is now seething in Turkey and across the Mideast. Hundreds of millions of US tax dollars have been wasted in this cruel, pointless war.
*****

an understatement and even he does not grasp the depth of our dilemma

I am giving you the only practical solution to the problem of the establishment and you finding yourselves in a rather deep hole Tommi..and that's to stop digging.

Who paid for this tosh? The Muslim Brotherhood?

Looks like their victim-hood mainstream propaganda machine went deep pockets here.

Sorry but this article actually is propaganda and you should be smart enough to recognize it.

Here is the affiliation of its writer, although I didn't even have to look to know this is the kind of garbage story telling that takes all responsibility off the idiots who need it most. The Muslims who need to reform into a secular state and keep Islam private.

What? ! Iraq? We had over 10 years sanctions prior to taking out Saddam over Iraq. Part of the push to do something about the Iraq problem was the sanctions were too long and Saddam was taking the profit from what little trade there was and using it for his palaces.

How can you agree with someone who is blaming everything on the West and works for Dubai?

What are you saying exactly you agree with or do you just not like what the real facts are?

And why would you, who doesn't like Islam, give them a clearance when it comes to the trouble in the world today?

I just can't believe that anyone, even sys, could even still today in this world find anything to agree with in what that idiot wrote in that yellow rag for useful lefty idiots.

And what does Eisenhower have to do with any of this?

Edit to add: In all the contention over all the years, over the drones, the symbols, economics and everything else, I have never felt so upset as I do right here now.

I'm so sick of people blaming the West for something that has caused so much trouble in the world since the end of classical history up to the point now.

It's almost as if there wasn't Islam but fascism or nazis, if there was still communism, if there was Alexander the Great riding in on a hundred elephants.. someone in the left would start a cottage industry (taking back hand perks of course) blaming the west for all of it. And the useful idiots on the left would be brandishing it all over as fact.

And sys would post it here to annoy me..

May I ask an old fashioned question.. where is your integrity for your own country?

It is not in Dubai or Russia..

It is not on RT TV or AL Jazera TV.

These people do more good than any leftie dogma that puts the blame on the West.

These people - At this Conference - Are the people who you should be supporting because they are far more aware than you are of the cause and relief from the trouble today with Islam.

http://www.gspellchecker.com/2016/09/report-from-the-secularism2016-conference/

"Despite some people confusing the Q&A section with an opportunity to embark on a question-free monologue, there were some impressive individuals putting their hands up nonetheless.

For instance, a Somali secularist spoke up about the harmful cultural relativism infecting the regressive left when she asked “when can we get support from other communities?”.

This is a constant plea from people of colour, specifically of culturally Muslim backgrounds who step away from the orthodoxy of their religious upbringing to stand for secularism, freedom of expression, gender equality and broader human rights issues. As this brave individual told us, she puts “a target on her back” just for speaking openly about these values, to very little support from so-called liberals.

As we see time and time a gain, the far left fall victim to the ‘racism of low expectations’ – abandoning these courageous dissidents and choosing to bolster the influence of those who would denigrate them as “uncle toms” or “house Muslims”, or worse – do them harm.

Another courageous (and nervous) young woman from Saudi Arabia took the microphone to ask questions too, reiterating the danger she puts herself in just for doing so. Maajid congratulated her on her bravery and encouraged her to speak up as often as she gets the chance.

I’m utterly convinced that theocracy will be brought to its knees by empowering female dissidents. There’s a reason religion is dedicated to limiting the rights of women – theocrats are utterly terrified of smart women. For their ‘male honour’ to be preserved, these woman must be kept in their place."

No, I don't think 9-11 was a false flag event. But the United States of America is not immune from making mistakes. We don't need to be telling the rest of the world how to live. We don't need to fight other people's wars for them.

The Middle East has been a hot-bed of violence, hatred, and discrimination for over a thousand years. America is not the only country (and certainly not the first) to go over there and try to straighten it out. Just ask Great Britain; just ask Russia.

Middle East Christians, Jews, Muslims, and atheists have got to find a way to solve this themselves. If they can not or will not, we ARE looking at World War III.

I may post articles of interest from time to time, but it is not my intention to engage you, or anyone else in debate on these issues.

That being said, Peace be with YOU and have a nice day!

us-trained-special-ops-fighter-islamic-states-new-top-commander-iraq

Khalimov is set to take the position vacated by Abu Omar al-Shishani, also known as Omar the Chechen, who was killed in the Iraqi city of Shirqat, south of Mosul. in early July and whom the Pentagon described as Islamic State's "minister of war."

What makes the ascent of Khalimov particularly embarrassing for the US is that The former paramilitary unit commander of the Tajikistan armed forces received his battlefield training from American advisors and even came to the United States on several occasions to receive special counterterrorism training through the US State Department’s Diplomatic Security/Anti-Terrorism Assistance program.

Then last year, Khalimov defected to ISIS where the Daesh forces in Iraq welcomed the new addition to their ranks with open arms especially since he was acquainted with US military and intelligence tactics. Subsequently, the American trained former Special Forces colonel Gulmurod Khalimov received a promotion within the terrorist organization, and has become the group's Iraqi battlefield commander just weeks after

ISIS refused to officially announce that Khalimov had been promoted to the top ranks of the terrorist organization out of concern that he would become a high-priority target of US led strikes in Iraq, but Iraq’s Al Sumaria news agency exposed the promotion through a source in Nineveh province.

The placement of Khalimov to lead the terror organization’s Iraqi forces is a bit unusual for the Islamic State, who normally maintain only "second and third ranking commanders who lead militants in [Nineveh] province," according to the Al Sumaria source. These Daesh militants tend to keep a low-profile to prevent being "detected and destroyed" by US Forces who remain in a support function in Iraq explained the source.

Khalimov's high profile defection has understandably been a concern for US officials for some time, with the US State Department labeling him a Specially Designated Global Terrorist under Executive Order 13224 on September 29, 2015 designed to prevent the transfer of currency to individuals known to hold leadership roles in terror organizations. The United Nations Security Council Resolutions and al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee further added Khalimov, who is also a fugitive wanted by the Government of Tajikstan, to its sanctions list in February 2016.

In any case, as has so often been the case in the recent past, a special ops military expert by the US, is now engaged in deadly combat wih his former teacher; further adding to the paradox, his weapons and supplies have also been provided by the US: an odd outcome which, as many have pointed out, benefits just one group: the shareholders of the US military-industrial complex, which always wins no matter who, or how many lives are lost.

The man who shot me now works for the CIA

New ally in fight against Isis is Syrian kidnapper who called Times journalists spies
It was with some surprise watching a video of a victorious band of western-backed rebels that I noticed the face of America’s newest ally in the war against Isis in Syria.

It was the face of a man I last saw in May 2014 when he leant forward to shoot me twice in the left ankle at almost point-blank range while my hands were tied. It was punishment for having attempted to escape his gang of kidnappers in northern Syria who had hoped to sell me on.

He showed The Facebook video of a victory celebration by a CIA-vetted rebel group in the border town of al-Rai supposedly showed Hakim Abu Jamal, also known as Hakim Anza, or Abdel Hakim al-Yaseen.

Hakim Abu Jamal, the man behind the abduction, was a two-year acquaintance of both reporters. He welcomed them as guests the day before taking them hostage.

Loyd was shot twice by his former host, Abu Jamal, in the left ankle for trying to escape – and both he and Hill were given severe beatings while held captive.

“I remember him well from across the years. Now, Hakim, forage cap on his head, was standing in the middle of a group of 10 other Syrian rebel fighters all belonging to a CIA-vetted group,” Loyd wrote, sharing his harrowing experience.

The group, backed by Turkish artillery and the US Air Force, has been sent to the area to oust Islamic State fighters stationed at a key stretch of road leading to the town of Jarabulus, which was recaptured last month.

Two years ago Jamal used to be a leader of a gang, Loyd added, that was seeking to receive a kidnap ransom for the two reporters.

“He has apparently transformed effortlessly from criminal pariah to a worthy foot soldier,” Loyd wrote.

Loyd claims that Jamal’s “extremist links are well documented” while his profile is in possession of at least three intelligence services, including Turkey’s MIT and Britain’s MI6. However, judging from the video, Jamal has now made it into a CIA-vetted Syrian rebel group, First Regiment (al-Fawj al-Awwal).

The publication noted that US Central Command failed to respond to Times requests to explain “how such a well-known hostage taker with family connections to extremists could have passed US vetting procedures.”

First of all, there are few Christians and Jews and atheists in Islamic countries that practice Sharia.

Second, did you notice how many Turks who live in England and Germany were demonstrating for Erdogan after the attempted coup, who want his anti-democratic Ottoman culture turned back in Turkey? These people are just plain mad..

Third, do you think by the US doing nothing and leaving this to fate as was done by others in the past "1000 years" from time to time, that it is going to advert a global war?

Your loyalty to this country I wouldn't question, but your approach to logic and facts I would question when you approve of a writer's article like sys posted but you dismiss a global conference on secularism without a comment or approval.

The world is too small for the West to ignore this situation.

You don't see burkas, women dressed completely in black from head to toe, every time you go outside, I do..

More and more.. I can even look out my window and I live in a nice residential old neigborhood, and see burkas..

Think about that.. maybe that explains the difference in perspective. But something has to.

Sys, it is a well known fact that these "rebel fighters", trained by CIA or not, usually have no loyalty to any ideology and go where they are paid the highest. They are actually mercenaries.

So your answer is to ignore the facts, which is they fight indiscriminately for the highest paying source..

And post articles about it? Churning up this reality as the muck raking site Zerohedge likes to do, to inflame readers and subvert their understanding of the raw reality of the situation.

While dismissing a conference on secularism, by people with real knowledge about the underlying problems.

Way to go man... way to go.. Embrace a subversive writer and blame the West for everything and then ignore those who struggle against the odds to change the political aspect of Islam.. way to go.

Edit to add:

Have you even read the comments section under this article you posted?

Where do they get these people? Collectively they wouldn't even make a 90 IQ average..

Here they are blaming the US and (no joke) "banksters" for the situation in the middle east...

Way to go sys, way to go.......

Love you too sys .. otherwise I wouldn't be trying to argue cultural relativism...

edit to add: I've got a Muslim female friend who is also a client. TBH, I've even said to her.. I like you so much I don't care if you like me back or not. I'm going to say what I think needs to be said..

When she went to do a concert in Pakistan recently (adjoining the famous woman who was recently murdered there because she didn't adhere to what strict standards of female conduct the radical Muslims murdered her for)
I was concerned she was staying in the woman's house at time, but she was staying with other people instead..

But I digress.. when she told me she was going... I was upset and I told her straight to her face, I wouldn't go there without a gun and I would be prepared to use it.

And this is her home country... I think nobody can ever say I don't care about what happens to her, and I don't care if she likes me or not with the confused cultural situation she is navigating at this time. Even if she sometimes doesn't like what I say, someone has to say it.. but she knows I've got her back.

So.. I do think a lot of you sys.. enough to argue X

I think we have touched on the real way to have peace in the mid east.
If the west will just pull out and leave them alone they will settle it themselves.
Left to themselves, we will slowly see the rise of a single faction of Islam. They will, over time, gain power and extend control over the lands until only a single faction remains and the rest have been eliminated.
It will be a long and bloody road and much of the west will spend a great deal of time crying over the loss of life and property, but in the end the single caliphate will rule them all and there will be peace over the mid east.
Then the west can try to contain them.
