xx Trump's "mentally ill," says Paul Krugman
« Thread started on: Jan 25th, 2017, 2:31pm »

Paul Krugman...OP-ED writer for the New York Times --- tweeted: "An American first: a president who was obviously mentally ill the moment he took office. Thanks Comey"
{James Comey being the director of the FBI}
I heartily agree with Paul Krugman's tweet.

you do realize that saying or doing the same thing over and over ad nauseum and expecting a different outcome is a sure sign of mental illness.. cool

PK predicted the stockmarket would tank after Trump..its at 20k..maybe PK is in denial..after all thats HIS field of expertise..I was a real certified MHA in a real clinic with real disturbed and unbalanced people..
and thats what it looks like to me..

Not saying he's nuts or not but is Paul Krugman qualified to make a clinical diagnosis without examining him. Is he a physician and expert in that field?

Gotta be careful nowadays, too many "experts" on the internet doing all kinds of analysis especially when it comes to behavior practices of people. grin

Well...on another forum: The OP has a 19 page thread that just started yesterday, with 86 flags, claiming this video about Trump and his wife --- that Donald J. Trump has typical tendencies of a psychopath.

I appreciate your concerns, Erno86. In My Opinion smiley Trump certainly seems to be an UNUSUAL kind of personality. Hard to predict (I have consistently failed to predict everything he has done, and I am no idiot, nor alone in this regard). Maybe....maybe.... Donald Trump is streetsavy/cunning without being intelligent in the traditional sense, leading to intellectuals and academians continually UNDERESTIMATING him. And to the extent that he knows what he doesn't know, he is in the perfect position to hire all the academians and assorted talent he'll ever need to compensate for any weaker aspect.

My point. It could well be (as Sys and Ed already suggest) he's not a madman, in the 'seriously disordered' sense. Nor (hopefully) evil. Just an example of that 'kill or be killed' mindset we see among highly successful businessmen/women. Of course in business it's considered OK to be so aggressive because competitors fight to make a killing without actually killing anybody. Let's see how he will distinguish between the thrill of a hostile takeover and the terrible human losses versus precarious gains of engaging in real warfare. He is probably going to surprise us again.

I agree to disagree --- Trump has said he wants to kill the family's of terrorists, send U.S. citizens to Gitmo, just threatened to send in the Feds to Chicago to quell the violence {martial law maybe?}, love affair with arch enemy Putin who just hacked the U.S. election, the Nationalist Paper in China has just threatened to go to war with the U.S., has support from neo-Nazi groups around the world, etc - etc.

And you tell me this guy Trump is not mentally ill or at least a psychopath?

Give me a break. huh

Put your seatbelt on...because we're in for a wild ride.

Paul Krugman is my hero --- And before him...Anthony Lewis - former OP-ED columnist for the New York Times.

Thanks for that Wikipedia link, Erno. Been quite a while since I read on the subject, but I would like to add that Sociopathy/Psychopathy/Antisocial Personality Disorder may not be an illness, unless in the most optimist view of psychiatrists developing some mode of treatment experimentally.

Simply: psychopaths could be just ruthless people who from lack of functional conscience cause others to suffer, torment or murder them until they are stopped, imprisoned or executed.

No therapy cases methinks. Although a Psychopath/Sociopath could suffer from mental disorders apart from their primary disfunction, and ask for help with that.

We see among normal people some sociopathic traits. Which makes such folks decidedly unpleasant, but nowhere near full-blown sociopaths.

What you describe could mean he's confrontational, Erno. And most people show some symptoms (of disorders) and I meet plenty with sociopathic traits. They seem to have moral lapses, as if their conscience/moral sense stutters intermittently. And almost everybody on occasion THINKS of doing wrong and harmful things.

Maybe we can question the wisdom of voting in a president who is confrontational, aggressive and abrasive by nature. But once in office, there's nothing to do but wait for his real world actions and judge him by that. If we're all lucky it is just the Trump-style of international diplomacy. Tremendousness.
