The inclusion of the off-topic subjects runs parallel with the expansion of themes within the community of UFO writers - themes such as the conspiracy theory involving alleged government cover-ups and so on. The UFO writers needed to attract more readers to boost the sale of their books, because the sole debilitating issue of whether a particular sighting is a real manifestation of intelligent ET life or not - with either conclusion not having the slightest impact on the silly task of proving to the world that the PhD's at SETI are really a bunch of incapable fools - would have driven the subject of UFO into a speedy extinction. That effort to extend the life span of interest in UFO through such diversification has finally run out of steam; the issues involved became over the long years boringly repetitive for just too many attendees.

There is an active ingredient in the whole mix and that is the believed-in ETs themselves. They control the situation; it's up to them whether they would ever purposely create such a condition that there would be no doubt whatsoever that an observed effect(s) cannot be man made, including a hoax, or be attributed to the nature. The problem is that they are not sticking around this planet to prove anything to anyone - they are here for the sole purpose of showing up here and there, and there and here, and back and forth they move around occasionally crashing when the process of splitting their craft into various parts goes awry. They keep flying their craft while changing their colors and shapes prompting the final conclusion: We can't come up with conclusive evidence that the ETs are a real article; we can only prove that they are apparently nutty guys.

Purr,

...personally I'm not worried about (highly varying) numbers or readers/participants at any given day. UFO Casebook isn't the Church of UFO, depending on sufficient 'worshippers' in attendance to keep the faith alive..

There again, it may be nothing to do with ufos.

Maybe a lot of these members are only here for the back-door communications offered by PM.

If the Powers That Be re looking for dodgy emails, it is possible that those who want to avoid their emails being read are using our Private Massaging to talk to each other.

Which government organisation is going to bother monitoring a bunch of ufo nuts ?

Erno,

...my 1978 photograph of a foo fighter landing zone in Pennsylvania, ..

I know I'm being picky here, but why do you insist on using this term 'foo fighters' in a context completely divorced from it's original meaning ?

It was an expression used by WWII pilots to describe the phenomena of balls of light of light that appeared to be taking an interest, sometimes quite aggressively in their planes.
They have sometimes been described as some kind of Nazi wonder weapon yet there i, at least as far as I know, no record of one of these things actually hitting a 'plane.

I am aware that it is a 'catchall' description that you use. But it does have an origin and should really only be used in that context.

I never looked for a "official" record of foo fighter hitting a plane,
but the gang member from Apollo 11, guy, was a WWII pilot, and
he told me one did hit his plane and caused a small dent and a scratch, no one died or got hurt, from what I know,
but it would be a cool weapon to be able to manipulate ball lighting,
scare the stuff out of others.

ZETAR,

.."Where did the story go ? I have no idea. Does anyone ?" ONE WAY TO STIFLE THE STORY/DISCUSSION IS BY CATEGORIZING POSTERS AS "a bunch of ufo nuts"

It is how most of the world sees the whole ufo fraternity.

In light of this characterization it is a safe haven for people who want to communicate relatively safely.

I can see a case for the governments being interested in what is being discussed in the forums, particularly when it involves getting too close to experimental projects.

According to Wikipedia, Carl Sagan's Paradox set the tone for ufology.

The paradox is Sagan laughed at UFOs, but he lectured that the universe was full of life.

The exception is that the Pentagon asked Walt Disney in 1956, and Michael Eisner in 1995, CEO of Walt Disney, to produce UFO educational programs.

Both programs claimed UFOs real, and the 1995 program was banned after one showing.

I guess us "true believers" are getting so old that we just head into the sunset and dissolve from existence.

I agree to disagree.

A 'UFO' is basically a unidentified aerial object. What I saw was a 'foo fighter' --- And it does fit into the context of what the WWII pilots saw, because it closely fits there description.

Any dubious claims of a 'Nazi secret weapon,' is like throwing the baby out the window with the bathwater --- imho --- Though I assume that you don't support the idea that the Nazis had foo fighters or functionally interstellar capable flying saucers.

You have a right to you own opinion, and I know that what I saw...a 'foo fighter' = {E.T. craft from another star system} was being guided intentionally and not from this Earth; nor neither it being any Earthling manufactured aerial object, planet, meteor or star in our solar system.

Cheers,

Erno

true believers ---> http://catholicphilly.com/media-files/2016/06/Council-of-Cardinals-1300px-1300x565.jpg

Why is it that the true believer in the middle wears a different outfit? It's white.

That's because Roman Catholicism has hierarchy and the highest true believer of them all is the pope. So there is a distinction in the dress code.

Aha. That means Roman Catholics are like the Western UFOlics. They have the pope as well.

They do?

Yes. But that pope seems to dress ordinary way.

See?

LOL. No, that's not the pope, but Pope - Nick Pope.

So if Pope is his nick, what is his true name?

Geezus, you've been around this planet for more than a half of a century and never learned anything about earthling's names? The first, the last...

...and the middle. That means Pope is his middle nick, because the pope is in the middle.

Right?

You know what? Keep flying around another half a century and maybe you figure it out.

You are correct in your assumption.

I simply have no idea what it was that was being reported.

I was only commenting on the use of the words. You are free to use whatever terminology you want.

Guilty here too...when I do sign in, I just lurk. Not sure why, just have kinda gotten away from it in the last few years.

A nice Phoenix or Stephenville type sighting would probably fire me up again.

Good topic. I actually was thinking about starting a similar thread, but it's better coming from a regular.

I'm also guilty. I even left for a while (formerly FlatEarth), so I guess that makes me even more guilty. My opinion is that things on the UFO front have quieted down. Everything seems to be fake videos or folks getting worked up over out of focus bugs. I agree that a truly good new unexplained event would really spark interest and participation.

I'm sort of disappointed that Podesta didn't get a chance to deliver on the promise of disclosure. That would have created some interest, however we would have Hillary for president, and that wouldn't be so entertaining...

Hey all,

I would do a lot more with the youtube videos but I don't know enough to shoot my mouth off about fakes etc.

I also just got "The Phoenix Lights Mystery" by Bill Hamilton. I scrounged around on alibris books and got a reasonable price on it. I would talk about it but I figured since it is an old book & sighting it wouldn't be interesting to anyone else. Unfortunately that night in March 1997 we were watching "Frasier" and missed the whole thing.

I do think there is still interest in the UFO phenomenon.
There might be a lot more people like me that don't want to open mouth & insert foot so they come by but don't speak.

More people are shy than you would imagine also.

Hey Flat,

Those fake videos are everywhere now. Disheartening.
