xx Why do UFOs crash?
« Thread started on: Aug 17th, 2009, 06:55am »

A point often raised by skeptics in discussions about Roswell, etc etc is why do UFOs crash?

In order to arrive here from other star systems, surely the alien visitors must be quite considerably more advanced than humans technology-wise. So how come there are reports of their craft sometimes crashing, after travelling the tens, hundreds, thousands or whatever light years to get here?

Is it because they haven't sufficiently researched the earth's atmosphere and terrain features before they get here? (Even though we were able to successfully land on the moon, although we are far behind the aliens tech wise?)

Is it because their pilots are poorly trained, because their controlling space agencies are on a low budget or something?

Are the contracts to build their craft given to the lowest bidder, resulting in shoddy workmanship and non-functioning components?

Are the pilots sometimes drunk, because they have cracked open some bottles of intergalactic special brew to celebrate their arrival?

Are there any other reasons anyone can think of?

(And btw, I'm not a UFO skeptic - I just need answers! Enquiring minds need to know ... wink )

Cheers! cheesy

Mechanical/electrical is always a top option as to why they crash, even alien engineers are not perfect cheesy. Storms would be another, as in the case of Roswell, lightning strikes are very unpredictable and sudden squalls could be dangerous.

UFO's crash for the simple reason that their power systems are interferred with by means of Electronically Pulsed Radar Systems directed at them by the U.S. Military so that they can recover the technology that are encompassed within the UFO's.
The principle is similar to what happens when an atomic explosion is triggered. ALL Electrical systems are " knocked out " within the " blast area.
UFO's use Magnetic Field Energy to operate. Disrupt the Magnetic Field by directing Electronically Pulsed Radar at the UFO and its systems are " knocked out ".
Quite simple really when you think about it.

VISITOR, your thoughts open up additional questions beyond those posed by Smersh. For example: If their power systems are (or were) interfered with by our radar systems, then can we assume:

1. Pulsed radar was first invented by humans here on Earth during the 20th century.
2. Pulsed radar is such a novel use of Electromagnetic waves, that it was never invented previously by the various past or present galactic civilizations.
3. Consequently, the crashed saucers and their occupants have never encountered pulsed radar before and their vehicles are/were not protected from its effects.

If this logic is correct, then maybe human technology is more formidable than we think.

Yes Nodnunk, and along the same line of argument, don't forget Visitor that with the flying saucers we are almost certainly talking about technology far ahead of our own. It would be something akin to a B2 Stealth Bomber being shot down by a bow and arrow, wouldn't it?

Well, according to the Bible, if you believe in it, that colossus of a man, Goliath, wearing full armour and carrying a shield and a battle sword, was killed by David wearing no armour and just using a sling-shot.
Maybe something as simple as Electronic Pulsed Radar ( to the Aliens ) could have brought down a UFO. It would go some way to explaing why there appears to have been so many UFO crashes. I would guess that the UFO's cannot insulate their craft to negate the E.P.R. as this would also insulate and negate their power systems from operating in their intended manner.

There are lots of powerful natural sources of pulsed radio frequency emissions out there in interstellar space, i.e. pulsars, flare stars, etc. Maybe the vehicles that crash due to pulsed radar interference are minimalist scout vehicles that are for local travel only. But then why wouldn't the mother ship rescue survivors and clean up the remains?

As long as we are speculating, maybe these "scout ships" are deliberately dropped off on frontier worlds and the occupants left to their own devices. Sort of a "Rite of Passage" as described in the 1968 book by that name by Alexei Panshin.

Maybe the guidance system was working in miles and the pilot in Kilometers.

If we wanted to, we (humanity) could explore interstellar space in our current technological state (plans for interstellar missions have been designed as far back as the 1960's (see: wikipedia->interstellar_travel), so we know it doesn't take tech' much in advance of our own. we also know that our space-probes routinely fail or crash into planetary bodies.

We know that it probably takes a long time to get between stars, long enough for machines to break down from wear, or maybe even radiation or meteor exposure. When they finally arrive at their destination, maybe something critical has failed. (such as the crew or landing gear? harhar.)

We should also consider the possibility that they might crash on purpose. There could be a wide variety of motivations for doing this, such as: sociological experimentation, planned obsolescence, suicidal tendencies, as well as other motivations we couldn't anticipate.

About the radio pulses... I've heard it said that the total energy collected by radio-astronomers from all natural sources during the entire history of radio-astronomy is only enough for a mosquito to do one push-up. This is because, the radio-sources are extremely far away.

Could be. But then their society would not be much different than our own. From the testimony of those who "know", I gather all the ET's live in happy harmony and would not entertain "suicidal tendencies". But then there are probably a few maverick nonconformists.

Which brings up another thought. Suppose the great majority of the ET's just operate their craft and have little knowledge of "how they work". They possess and use marvaleous technology but know little about the theory or how to change a flat tire. If the automatic systems fail, they are helpless. Something like Air France flight 447.

Well, we do send things into space with the intent of them crashing or landing on surfaces for exploratory purposes. Maybe someone out there is trying to find out how habitable this planet is and what is here and they crash unoccupied craft with some rover or something inside.
In my imagination I can see inhabitants of Mars reporting UFOs flying around and crashing on their planet. The inhabitants might think their government is withholding info about ETs having landed there. It is kind of funny to think that we might be seen as some advanced society by someone else in the galaxy where we have been sending craft to orbit and take photos or even land and test soil.
