Having grown up with the sleek rockets of "Destination Moon" and V-2's and Tom Corbett Space Cadet, I thought the Apollo Lunar Excursion Module was a very ugly assymetrical piece of hardware--but it did the job. So I guess the Dragonfly Drone is in a similar category to the LEM: assymetrical and unstreamlined, and relatively primitive, but perhaps able to accomplish something.

ATO:

According to what Isaac said this technology is many decades old in 1984 and many decades old in 1947. You are probably very correct.

I suspect this craft and the associated tech is likely in the thousands of years of age.

Off topic but I read where an alien told an observer that his craft that was sitting on the ground was 350 years old.

I wish my car could be that well designed.

It was imaginary, hypothetical - call it what you want. Just needed something to give Bob that had some kind of understanding he could relate to. When you think about it though, we'll have something that LOOKS like this before long but it won't perform as their drone does certainly. So, visualize a Model T without the motor. lol grin

RoH - Been reading up on the Turing Machine, can't say that I really get it 100% (a lot to wrap my head around), but enough to see how it relates to the "mechanics" of the symbols

Please comment me via PM and let me know if the summary is accurate. It took me a while to put it together and I intend to use it as springboard so-to-speak so if it is not accurate I would appreciate you guys and gals letting me know. smiley I will gleefully fix even the tiniest discrepency.

I also welcome comments on the Pylon Power theory.

By all means post here but please also PM me if you really intend for me to read your thoughts/corrections as I'm having a hard time keeping up with this thread.

Edit: OOPS.... I didn't realize that this topic was in this thread, i did a search for it and replied through the search... this message is in return to the gottigo videos...NOT the drones........
end edit....

After having spent a few days out there over the last 2 weeks and checking things out..finding out more about the television location set, what's shot there (aerial stuff, military type stuff), the fact that there is a LOT of air traffic for burbank and van nuys airports, and a LOT of helicopter activity... and just plain snooping around... I'm writing this one off... there's nothing to see here folks (except that one darn light...)... but other than that, in addition to other things that have come to my attention... this one is closed in my book.

Can I get my gas money back now? wink

Actually, I've mentioned this at OMF a week ago, but no one seemed to notice.

Hello, Whane The Whip.

Good website! I have no corrections, but I have always found this story from Earthfiles most fascinating. While not strictly 'drone' related, it does have a weird 'ranger' connection, and is way off the 'out-there' scale...

Mr. Cornucopia, indeed.... ;-)

"4) From: Doctor of Optometry and Ph.D., Houston, Texas
Subject: Forest Rangers in Double Roles
Date: May 26, 2007
To: earthfiles@earthfiles.com

"Great report tonight on Coast To Coast AM. I am writing to tell you about something unusual that happened to me, I would say about 7-10 years ago. I was at Peace Prayer Day in Espanola, NM, and decided to visit Chaco Canyon. This was before Chaco Canyon was a National Park.

I have a life long interest in UFOs, growing up in Andrews, TX, near Roswell, NM. Anyway, while at Chaco Canyon, I attended a talk given by a forest ranger. He took me aside and asked if I would like to stay overnight for a view thru a telescope on the grounds. I said what telescope? He said, you'll see. I didn't tell him that I have an undergraduate degree in physics.

Well this was quite a large telescope and I was very impressed. I asked some pretty good questions, so he said, 'Why don't you come into the trailer?' I went into the trailer and was blown away. The trailer looked like an old beat up camper. However, once inside, there was some of the most sophisticated electronic signal analyzing equipment I had ever seen. Multiple screens and digital imaging cameras. I kept my mouth shut and just ooooh'ed and ahhhhh'ed. I then asked the 'Ranger' for his name and he replied, 'Mr. Cornucopia' (I am not kidding about this!). It was all too weird for me, so I left.

However, this was not an ordinary ranger. I don't know what was going on at Chaco Canyon. I later heard that a decade ago, it was a hot bed of UFO activity. Thought you might be interested in this masquerading ranger story. Keep up the great reports!""

Maybe its just me, but I think that we are all in deep, deep trouble from Big Brother...read this taken from the latest issue of Technology Review...then think "Chad" craft etc...The Minority Report nears reality!

"Researchers have created a robotic fly for covert surveillance."

"A life-size, robotic fly has taken flight at Harvard University. Weighing only 60 milligrams, with a wingspan of three centimeters, the tiny robot's movements are modeled on those of a real fly. While much work remains to be done on the mechanical insect, the researchers say that such small flying machines could one day be used as spies, or for detecting harmful chemicals.

"Nature makes the world's best fliers," says Robert Wood, leader of Harvard's robotic-fly project and a professor at the university's school of engineering and applied sciences.

The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is funding Wood's research in the hope that it will lead to stealth surveillance robots for the battlefield and urban environments. The robot's small size and fly-like appearance are critical to such missions. "You probably wouldn't notice a fly in the room, but you certainly would notice a hawk," Wood says.

Recreating a fly's efficient movements in a robot roughly the size of the real insect was difficult, however, because existing manufacturing processes couldn't be used to make the sturdy, lightweight parts required. The motors, bearings, and joints typically used for large-scale robots wouldn't work for something the size of a fly. "Simply scaling down existing macro-scale techniques will not come close to the performance that we need," Wood says.

Some extremely small parts can be made using the processes for creating microelectromechanical systems. But such processes require a lot of time and money. Wood and his colleagues at the University of California, Berkeley, needed a cheap, rapid fabrication process so they could easily produce different iterations of their designs.

Ultimately, the team developed its own fabrication process. Using laser micromachining, researchers cut thin sheets of carbon fiber into two-dimensional patterns that are accurate to a couple of micrometers. Sheets of polymer are cut using the same process. By carefully arranging the sheets of carbon fiber and polymer, the researchers are able to create functional parts.

For example, to create a flexure joint, the researchers arrange two tiny pieces of carbon composite and leave a gap in between. They then add a sheet of polymer perpendicularly across the two carbon pieces, like a tabletop on two short legs. Two new pieces of carbon fiber are placed at either end of the polymer, as a final top layer. Once all the pieces are cured together, the resulting part resembles the letter H: the center is flexible but the sides are rigid.

By fitting many little carbon-polymer pieces together, the researchers are able to create rather complicated parts that can bend and rotate precisely as required. To make parts that will move in response to electrical signals, the researchers incorporate electroactive polymers, which change shape when exposed to voltage. The entire fabrication process will be outlined in a paper appearing in an upcoming edition of the Journal of Mechanical Design" shocked

Now that's scary! grin I visualize politicians sending their secretaries out to purchase good quality fly swatters for each office and putting together an office memo to all employess that all insects should be destroyed immediately upon first sighting.

In that case most politicians will need crash helmets...... (Or is that parasites?)

Hi everyone,

Sorry for my poor english...

I think that the bottom part unfolds:

As you can see, the top part of external arms are not connected to the large ring.
User Image

At the bottom part of the arms, I see a mechanical system to rotate them (the best view is at the most left arm).

The original picture...

...and a view of the unfold configuration:
Notice that the appropriate module is activated on the control panel ;o)
and that 'Wires' (thin in gray) are still connected from the center of the cage to the arms.

Perhaps this configuration is used to concentrate a field in conjunction with the dart,
or the rotation angle may be less (around 90), so that the 'legs' are used to land the drone...?

Path.
