Obvioulsy, it sounds better in French!!
I'm living in France, and I can tell that sometimes, when the discussion is very technical it is not easy to translate correctly into French without making errors (involuntary).
The spirit and the intention of the translation are however present and I am certain that if there are mistranslations carried out on Ovnis-Usa.com ,Didier will be made a pleasure of correcting them, for obviously respecting what the person says "dans l'esprit et la lettre" (French Expression! grin)

Cheers

I am often very curious about the behavior of people. It has always been very fascinating to me. I have always wondered why some people close their eyes when talking. I also have wondered why some people, when having a dialog, their eyes will switch left and right very fast.

I don't understand the mindset of someone who hangs out in a UFO forum but does not have any belief in the topics. I'm talking about people who only are there to be a voice for skepticism and debunkery. I'm all for skepticism when applied properly. But when I decide a topic is untrue I move on. I would rather do other things with my time. I like to think I have a life.

Anybody who has a take on this feel free to reply. I'd especially like to here Starsigndavids take on it.

You've made an interesting observation. I've never really considered it. Since, you're right, the skeptics seem to enjoy it on the forums, maybe it's for the attention. After all, if you agree with everyone, there's less attention given to you than if you take on the whole forum by taking the opposite view. Then there's the ugly idea that they just enjoy the contention or get a rush by feeling the equal to all these people. Do we have a psychologist in the crowd?

Hi Latitude, I notice peoples eye movement during a conversation as well. It can tell you a lot. There's a whole science behind blink patterns and such in relation to a persons sincerity. Eyes can convey so much and truly are the mirror of the soul.

When I'm talking to someone - or listening - I maintain eye contact, only breaking away enough so as not to make them uncomfortable. This shows them that I'm paying attention, that I'm engaged.

When people are forever shifting their gaze here there and everywhere I find it often indicates a lack of self confidence. They are uncertain in their presentation, whether they are making sense or not. It's a submissive gesture as well. Blinking usually indicates extreme discomfort or dishonesty which would be a real red flag.

You would think that once someone's mind was made up against something that they would move on. For some individuals I think the debate becomes sport and not necessarily about finding the truth. In fact reaching agreement would mean the game was over! For others, it's more important for them to be right, to win. Once you hit a stone wall it makes more sense to me to just climb over it and continue your journey on the other side!

Yeah, there are several people on this site that do nothing but attack the believers. I guess they get a thrill from that. But to me arguing for the sake of agrument is a bore. they hate to state their true beliefs. They also usually like to have it both ways. I usually ignore those posts. I find that after a few weeks they usually give up and move on to other things.

I feel it is best to be honest. I try to make it very clear that I am a believer and that drives the skeptics nutz.

When evidence is no longer in view, it makes conversation very strained.

Northern California has not had a chemtrail since the last time the drone was sighted in Capitola.

I think that is significant; but so what?

There are a number of reasons why they would do so. One such reason is actually fascinating.

1. Some people do enjoy confrontation--in fact, they thrive on it.
2. Often, these contrarians have a need to make their point over and over and over again. They NEED to have the last word and when the thread continues, they cannot bear to walk away from it without continuing to bludgeon others with their opposite point of view. In everyday life, some of these folks may feel powerless, ignored or be in positions that are subordinate to authority or dominant family politics. Their posting are empowering for them
3. Perhaps the most interesting reason is that some debunkers have a deep down desire to BELIEVE! They are, in essence, having a dialogue with their own doubts, giving voice to one point of view and listening to the opposing views of believers. They hope that the believers have some verifiable well of experience or knowledge; some insight that may help persuade them. A demonstrated confidence in one's beliefs can be both challenging and subconsiously comforting to this type of poster. Think of it in terms of the atheist who does not intellectually believe life after death. That person may still take some comfort or harbor some hopes that are fueled by the belief of others.

Hallo Latitude!

I understand you very well Latitude, what youre saying, when you say, what you say, when you say it, .... that ...

..." I don't understand the mindset of someone who hangs out in a UFO forum but does not have any belief in the topics. (I do believe in it!) ...I'm talking about people who only are there to be a voice for skepticism and debunkery. I'm all for skepticism when applied properly. (Me too!) But when I decide a topic is untrue I move on. (Here Im not sure yet, whether its True or Untrue, it too took me a very long time in believing in the "Billy Meier contacts from the Pleiades"! Therefore, once Im hooked, i want to figure it out whether its the Truth or not.

My scepticism is something like 50/50 and somehow moving in the Truth direction of the Drone project that started in the 80tys to 48/52%!) would rather do other things with my time. I like to think I have a life.

Therefore, if you people dont mind, Id like to stay on it but you must forgive me because Im sometimes a little bit slow in my reaction time or if I place some Links in here, that you guys might have already known for a long time before I have.

Ive found a new Link, may be you have seen and or discussed this Link already but may be you havent! As I read the Links writings - letter, this person sounds like a Mexican not native. Of course, theres nothing wrong with that but you never know who this person is. Im sure well all hear more about it once you read that information.

And here now the Link to that site.

I appreciate what youre saying Mark, and wholeheartedly agree, the bit of French I included at the bottom of my post on this meant, Lost in translation.

I dont blame anybody for this except the website that is used to translate the page, and only mentioned it in reply to RoHs post which was immediately before mine.

And I personally think that Didier de Plaige is in fact doing a stellar job of keeping abreast of the main UFO forums as this is undoubtedly an arduous task.

How 'bout a huge collective (albeit respectful) sigh smiley? Followed by a small (but polite) chuckle?
