Ya know, when I asked you yesterday and the day before to read the drone threads first, you only had to read the first page and you would have known that about Isaac and you absolutely would have known that was Isaac's website. For that matter, you would only have had to read the title of the thread.

** Scratches head **

And, could you comment on this paragraph. What makes you think he is not caucasian or other?

As for those last two sentences, that's a classic. I had to capture that for myself. lol

I am always amazed and delighted by how many of you esteemed forum members really get it! smiley There may be individual differences and nuances of belief and outlook, but at the core, I believe we all have more similarites than differences. ....and a refreshing intelligence to not be tied to man-made and conventional orthodoxy/theology.

Skeptics vs Believers

Before I say anything else, I feel I must clarify my position.

I believe 100% in the possibility of extraterrestrial beings visiting or already have visited the earth. I also believe that arguing over the existence of UFO’s truly is moot, as it’s a 100% provable fact that they CERTAINLY EXIST.

I don't understand the mindset of someone who hangs out in a UFO forum but does not have any belief in the topics. I'm talking about people who only are there to be a voice for skepticism and debunkery. I'm all for skepticism when applied properly. But when I decide a topic is untrue I move on. I would rather do other things with my time. I like to think I have a life.

Anybody who has a take on this feel free to reply.

Now onto the terms, “Skeptic” & “Debunkers.”

I believe Skeptic to be far too broad a term, and incidentally EVERY reply to Latitude’s question has automatically taken the stance that a skeptic doesn’t believe in anything, but part of the skeptics definition is, “One who engages in rational and dispassionate reasoning as exemplified by the scientific method” so using this rationale, can one safely assume that the polar opposite is one who accepts every half-baked notion, regardless of fact/history/credibility etc.

Or is someone who has objections to particular cases considered a skeptic?

For if that’s true then Latitude, you too fall under the umbrella term of a skeptic, if for nothing else than the Billy Meier case. For there are thousands of people who do believe it, and ATO with Phillip Schneider, in fact I’m sure everyone on this forum sees at least one reported case as an obvious hoax, while others choose to believe it as fact.

And if EVERYONE reading this isn’t a skeptic to some degree then I fear I am grossly misinformed, deluded and mistaken in my overall opinion of this forum!!

As everyone in this forum seems to be of relatively (myself excluded obviously grin) sound mind, and at least capable of making their own decisions based on the facts presented to them.

So, bearing this in mind, why come to the forums if you don’t believe in a singular case? Or is it this selectiveness in what we accept at face value, what we feel requires more research and what we choose to believe that drives us in our search for answers?

If so, then what about the term, “Selective skeptic,” or a, “Realist” for that matter?

As I believe anybody who accepts every UFO sighting, image and report as true until proved otherwise has a serious character defect and personality flaw that is ultimately more serious, detrimental and wholly objectionable than the person who doesn’t believe in any.

RE: “Skeptic - One who practices the method of suspended judgment, engages in rational and dispassionate reasoning as exemplified by the scientific method, shows willingness to consider alternative explanations without prejudice based on prior beliefs, and who seeks out evidence and carefully scrutinizes its validity.”By that rationale, surely skeptics should be embraced by the UFO community as, “The voice of reason?”

As anyone who doesn’t take every individual case on its specific merits and who doesn’t seek out evidence and scrutinize its validity is surely a disinformation agent of an equally (if not greater) despicable nature as those who just as easily dismiss every case without any investigation? As ultimately both types will actively prevent the furthering of any, “Serious” investigation.

Skeptic doesn’t really sum it up as I feel it’s unfair to label someone as a skeptic on the merits of their belief of one particular case or incident which is inevitably what will and does happen.

I feel it’s the necessity that each group feels to convert the other to their beliefs is where the true problems lie. It’s this need for, “Validation” that lies at the root of the majority of subsequent arguments.

And of course there’s the people who want to be convinced or persuaded of either of the above theories as fact i.e. believers and non-believers who are teetering on the edge and require a little push to consolidate their beliefs. Unfortunately since the introduction of the internet there is a multitude of websites and forums which are only too happy to oblige, whether they be for or against.

And to the uninitiated or unconvinced their minds will eventually be made up depending on the websites they WANT TO visit, this is evident by the amount of people who use various search terms to find such websites. I witness several search terms relating to the recent Drone flap on an almost hourly basis, two simplified examples of this are,

“Drone UFO hoaxed” or “Drone UFO real”

From this example and these two search terms one can surmise that these people’s minds are already made up and are not searching for proof either way but merely a unifying hypothesis that can consolidate their beliefs with solid fact.

In summary, I believe that new phrases are required to define peoples beliefs and that one should refrain from using umbrella terms like, “Skeptic” or, “Debunker.”

And as to why they bother coming to the forums at all, as I’ve said before, if they didn’t then surely it’s no longer a forum, (i.e. a public facility to meet for open discussion) but rather becomes a pulpit for believers to slap each other on the back and, “Preach to the choir.”

In my post I stated I'm all for skepticism. I am very skeptical towards many sightings. I called the Haiti/DR video a hoax almost immediately. You illustrated perfectly the same things that I saw. I have never believed in Billy Meirers and Phil Schneiders claims I always took with a large grain of salt. I got to admit that when he holds up the deformed hand it does cause me to do a double take. shocked Who knows? Maybe he caught it in a wood chipper.

But open discussion is one thing. Going to a forum with the explicit purpose of debunking the topic is another. I believe Billy's wedding cake UFO is a laughable fraud. But I'm not about to devote my precious time to hanging out in his forums to debunk. My point was not about the purpose of forums. It was about the psychology behind the forum debunker.

I did a small drone experiment yesterday I thought you all might like to hear about. I attended a party and wore my new drone t-shirt. I met many people throughout the course of the day and into the night. I had a great time but am a little hung over today. There were about 100 people there complete with live band cranking out classic rock.

So what was the reaction to my drone shirt? Nothing, not one comment. They did not even notice.

Hi "A-true-originall"!

Am I Good or am I Gooood? cheesy

"And, could you comment on this paragraph. What makes you think he is not Caucasian or other"?

...Replies - believe it or not but somehow, when I read the written text, I read it in the voice and dialect of the person, who wrote it! Just like, when I read your material, I read it as if I have had three cups of coffee, in each cup were seven spoons of sugar. It´s like a race, like an acceleration of heartbeat as if you were excited, when you wrote that! I can understand you - you´re inspired by that project and do get pretty frustrated, when someone (like myself) have criticized your Drone. And than again, when I read/read the material of Latitude, I read it very smoothly ~ like a flowing motion. Like someone, who was born with that language just like in your case but his thoughts that he put down in writing, are more calmer as yours are - no offence!

rolleyes I´m sorry "Trueoriginall" that I didn´t listen to you and didn´t read the starting pages but there´s just tooooooo much to read!!! smiley

Of course no one would notice.......drones are supposed to be invisible.

You should have worn your alien anti-gravity device T-shirt and then everyone would say....hey, that's a pipe-pig.

Hi Che:

You know I never thought of that. I should be reading all of these posts in the correct regional or ethnic dialect 'voice'. What's your voice?

Now I read Von Stern in a Dannish accent. This is wunderbar.

Mark is way up in Maine. Do they have that special Maine accent. I suppose so.

Then there are the guys from Canada, eh? Get it?

I'm in Los Angeles so I have that valley-talk down pat *for sure*.

Now we have Isaac from Mexico. Hey, cholo, vasts up wid de Drones chico? You got a lot a splainin to do.

LOL! laugh

DrDil - very well thought out post. Yes, I agree, if we're all honest there are things that we are each are skeptical about. No argument there, I've got a long list yet consider myself to be open minded.

We have to be discerning and we all bring our own unique criteria for that to the subject in question. Our "red flags" and "BS meters" are set to different standards (although there are common elements).

I just wanted to make sure that it didn't have anything to do with the area of the email where he states going to university and not going to A university, when it was correct the first way I stated it. Some thought it was something other.
