If a man of Hynek's stature...why would he want to have a chance of having his credibility damaged, by joining the Robertson Panel --- whose sole intent was to discredit UFO reports --- with Hynek discrediting the most famous UFO reports with relish, and kept doing so long after he left the Robertson Panel.

So...has anybody read Vallee's book - Passport to Magonia?

I listened to most of Noory's interview with Vallee on CoastToCoast last year...and I came away disagreeing with about 100% of what Vallee had too say.

I have no current interest in reading Vallee's authored books. Why should I? What with Vallee's book - Passport to Magonia --- involves his speculation about the potential links, by "exploring the commonalities between UFO's, cults, demons, angels, ghosts, cryptid sightings and psychic phenomena."

Because he didn't necessarily know the purpose or even origins of the Robertson Panel at the time.

I don't wish to argue about what any given researcher may or may not have believed, or where their allegiances may or may not have lied, but you guys are getting a bit into what I consider my wheelhouse here, and perhaps the following info will at least be considered potentially relevant. Thanks.

The CIA itself admits that its sponsorship of the Robertson Panel was classified and withheld from public knowledge. The Agency also reports that an initial sanitized report was offered to the public in which no mention was made of CIA involvement with the panel or Agency interests in the use of UFOs as a psychological warfare tool.

From the CIA website, 'CIA's Role in the Study of UFOs, 1947-90':

"[P]pressure was building for the release of the Robertson panel report on UFOs. In 1956, Edward Ruppelt, former head of the Air Force BLUE BOOK project, publicly revealed the existence of the panel. A best-selling book by UFOlogist Donald Keyhoe, a retired Marine Corps major, advocated release of all government information relating to UFOs. Civilian UFO groups such as the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP) and the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO) immediately pushed for release of the Robertson panel report. (47) Under pressure, the Air Force approached CIA for permission to declassify and release the report. Despite such pressure, Philip Strong, Deputy Assistant Director of OSI, refused to declassify the report and declined to disclose CIA sponsorship of the panel. As an alternative, the Agency prepared a sanitized version of the report which deleted any reference to CIA and avoided mention of any psychological warfare potential in the UFO controversy. (48)"

Another point of interest, in my opinion, is Agency involvement and interests in otherwise civilian UFO organizations. The NICAP board of governors included USAF Ret. Maj. Dewey Fournet, Jr., formerly involved with Pentagon interests in UFO projects, as well as USAF Ret. Col. Joseph Bryan III, who, according to a report authored by the late Richard Hall of NICAP, was “later discovered to be a former naval officer and CIA employee, psychological warfare specialist.” Most notably was a retired Navy admiral and former DCI Roscoe H. Hillenkoetter, who served on the NICAP board of governors from 1957 to 1962.

Whatever we choose to make of it, the involvement of the intelligence community in UFO organizations became par for the course. I suspect the purposes have spanned many different reasons over the years.

Vallee was a principle investigator for the U.S. Department of Defense Computer Networks --- which IMHO --- make it highly unlikely that Vallee was not in constant communication with the CIA; at the time of his employment.

Too make matters worse --- The CIA's MIB's {Men In Black} operatives, forced Ruppelt to recant his findings that UFO's were to be taken seriously --- in Ruppelt's second edition of his book - The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects.

Good post JJ......the NICAP connection is well known to those who have done any reading over the years and you are correct in saying that there are many connections to various ufo orgs , ufologists, and researchers that have been brought up a long time ago.

Some in the ufo community apparently need to believe in govt conspiracies under every bed for personal reasons I suppose and leave rational thinking outside the door.
While there has been a lot of disinformation over the years not every ufologist who has had a peripheral connection to govt work is an agent provocateur.
Those who have that kind of mental framework and believe in these ufo conspiracy myths I tend to write off as being fringe personalities.

The idea of demons as aliens is going to be a lead balloon on most forums. I think you are the only one here who takes it seriously.

Exactly how would you like to keep the thread going...?

I wish you would stop making false statements.
I haven't guessed anything regarding the ETH other than the idea that imo it's unlikely all alien encounters can be explained that way. As I have said many times some could be ETH.
And that has nothing to do with postulating demons which is a 100% faith based religious position and one not amenable to any kind of rational scientific investigation.
It's best left for the Bible believers and exorcists.

No contest, Carol, I much prefer this 'UFOs vs Demonic Forces' thread over your "Demonic Forces vs UFOs' thread (or the fifty other variations thereof). Heck, this thread has even been awarded 'sticky' status - appearing above Sam's inane, interminable thread. Some people never achieve that status. You should be proud.

Now, you two quit arguing before I ground the both of you. wink

Carol,
Instead of linking to ufo religious sites on this idea of 'demons' , why don't you explain your position in your own words in a few long paragraphs with reasoned arguments citing historical and modern ufo cases that make a case for demons pretending to be aliens.
