Democrats in Cal Busted for Corruption

“While most gun owners are law-abiding, it is a fact that such weapons are more likely to be used to kill an innocent person than used in self-defense," Yee said in a press release. "One only needs to look at England, Japan, and other nations with strict gun access to see that these types of gun control laws are effective in preventing gun-related homicides.”

Suspensions amid criminal charges take away Democrats’ Senate supermajority in nation's most populous state
March 28, 2014 4:02PM ET

California’s Democratic-controlled state Senate has voted to suspend three Democratic members who face charges in separate criminal cases — one involving alleged international gunrunning — after the latest lawmaker to be hauled into court refused to step down.
Not mentioned that included a shoulder missile firing system from a jihadist group..in the phillipines

The three suspensions drop Senate Democrats below the two-thirds majority they won in the last election — a supermajority that allowed them to act in all matters without needing support from Republicans in the 40-member chamber.

Friday's 28–1 vote came amid one of the most severe ethical crises ever to hit the Legislature in the nation's most populous state.

The resolution prevents Democratic Sens. Ron Calderon, Leland Yee and Rod Wright from exercising any power of their office until the pending criminal cases against them have been resolved. However, they will continue receiving their annual salaries of $95,291.

Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg of Sacramento acknowledged recent public criticism of the chamber, but defended his leadership and the integrity of the 37 senators who have not run afoul of the law. Nevertheless, he said he has been shocked by having 7 percent of the chamber face felony charges this year, which will be his last as leader.

"One is an anomaly, two a coincidence, but three? That's not what this Senate is about," Steinberg told his fellow lawmakers before the vote.

Yee, a San Francisco Democrat who had championed gun-control legislation and bills targeting violent video games sold to minors, was indicted this week on federal charges that included accepting bribes and coordinating an international gunrunning operation. He is the third of the three senators to be charged.

Yee's attorney, Paul F. DeMeester, issued a statement immediately after the Senate vote, saying suspension was "the right step for now" because it acknowledges the presumption of innocence.

Steinberg said the Senate already has "intensive" ethics training for its lawmakers and staff.

"But there are some things, members, that you just can't teach," he said. "I know of no ethics class that teaches about the illegality or the danger of gunrunning or other such sordid activities."

He called the allegations against Yee “unfathomable.”

Steinberg also announced the unprecedented step of canceling a Senate floor session in April for a mandatory ethics review, with Senate officials going office by office to emphasize ethical conduct and to ask staffers to come forward if they are aware of any unethical or potentially criminal activity by lawmakers or Senate staffers.

The lone lawmaker to vote against the resolution was Republican Sen. Joel Anderson of Alpine. He argued that all three should be expelled outright, and said it was wrong that they should continue receiving their salaries when facing such serious charges.

"If you reward bad behavior, you will get more of it," Anderson said.

Calderon and Wright had previously taken leaves of absence, which also let them keep their pay. California’s constitution says lawmakers can lose their pay only if they are expelled or resign.

The vote comes just days after federal authorities arrested Yee as part of a broader corruption probe centered on San Francisco's Chinatown district.

Steinberg was under intense pressure to take tough action with three members of his own party facing criminal charges. Both the state's U.S. senators, Democrats Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, weighed in.

Feinstein, in a statement Thursday, called the allegations against Yee "shocking." edit ask her about certain pictures stolen one she has hanging in office..

"It has become clear he has lost the confidence of his colleagues and for the good of his constituents should step down," she said.

Senate Minority Leader Bob Huff, R-Diamond Bar, said in a statement calling for Yee's suspension that the three arrests are "tarnishing the California state Senate."

Yee was arrested and released on bond Wednesday following a series of raids in Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area. According to an affidavit, he is accused of accepting more than $42,000 to provide introductions and influence legislation and to introduce an undercover FBI agent to an arms trafficker.

Investigators said Yee discussed helping the agent get weapons, including shoulder-fired missiles, from a Muslim separatist group in the Philippines to help pay off campaign debts.

Wright was convicted of voter fraud and perjury and faces sentencing in May. Calderon faces federal charges for allegedly accepting $100,000 in bribes for friends and family in exchange for pushing certain bills.

Democratic Sen. Kevin de Leon of Los Angeles, who will succeed Steinberg as Senate leader later this year, defended the chamber's reputation and noted that none of the bills Calderon pushed as a favor to those who were giving him cash passed the Senate.

UFO or secret fighter jet? The mysterious triangular craft pictured flying over Texas
Aviation experts believe plane could be a secret military prototype

It has baffled aviation experts and UFO spotters alike.

This mysterious triangle shaped craft has been spotted flying high in the sky over Texas.

Yet nobody has been able to identify the mystery craft - or even rule out the possibility it is a UFO.

Expert believe they could be classified military craft.

'Classified programs have been exposed in all sorts of ways - for example, the A-12 Blackbird was disclosed under a degree of pressure,' Bill Sweetman of Aviation Week said.

'It's not merely logical to expect that numerous classified aircraft programs exist: it's almost a necessity.'

Evidence from skulls in east London shows plague had to have been airborne to spread so quickly

Archaeologists and forensic scientists who have examined 25 skeletons unearthed in the Clerkenwell area of London a year ago believe they have uncovered the truth about the nature of the Black Death that ravaged Britain and Europe in the mid-14th century.

Analysis of the bodies and of wills registered in London at the time has cast doubt on "facts" that every schoolchild has learned for decades: that the epidemic was caused by a highly contagious strain spread by the fleas on rats.

Now evidence taken from the human remains found in Charterhouse Square, to the north of the City of London, during excavations carried out as part of the construction of the Crossrail train line, have suggested a different cause: only an airborne infection could have spread so fast and killed so quickly.

The Black Death arrived in Britain from central Asia in the autumn of 1348 and by late spring the following year it had killed six out of every 10 people in London. Such a rate of destruction would kill five million now. By extracting the DNA of the disease bacterium, Yersinia pestis, from the largest teeth in some of the skulls retrieved from the square, the scientists were able to compare the strain of bubonic plague preserved there with that which was recently responsible for killing 60 people in Madagascar. To their surprise, the 14th-century strain, the cause of the most lethal catastrophe in recorded history, was no more virulent than today's disease. The DNA codes were an almost perfect match.

According to scientists working at Public Health England in Porton Down, for any plague to spread at such a pace it must have got into the lungs of victims who were malnourished and then been spread by coughs and sneezes. It was therefore a pneumonic plague rather than a bubonic plague. Infection was spread human to human, rather than by rat fleas that bit a sick person and then bit another victim. "As an explanation [rat fleas] for the Black Death in its own right, it simply isn't good enough. It cannot spread fast enough from one household to the next to cause the huge number of cases that we saw during the Black Death epidemics," said Dr Tim Brooks from Porton Down, who will put his theory in a Channel 4 documentary, Secret History: The Return of the Black Death, next Sunday.

To support his argument, Brooks has looked at what happened in Suffolk in 1906 when plague killed a family and then spread to a neighbour who had come to help. The culprit was pneumonic plague, which had settled in the lungs of the victims and was spread through infected breath.

The skeletons at Charterhouse Square reveal that the population of London was also in generally poor health when the disease struck. Crossrail's archaeology contractor, Don Walker, and Jelena Bekvalacs of the Museum of London found evidence of rickets, anaemia, bad teeth and childhood malnutrition.

In support of the case that this was a fast-acting, direct contagion, archaeologist Dr Barney Sloane found that in the medieval City of London all wills had to be registered at the Court of Hustings. These led him to believe that 60% of Londoners were wiped out.

Antibiotics can today prevent the disease from becoming pneumonic. In the spring of 1349, the death rate did not ease until Pentecost on 31 May.

Female veterans are among the fastest growing homeless population. In 2013 there were 4,500 homeless women vets- their numbers growing as more women rotate through the military. The Veterans' Administration is playing catch up, and now it's building housing for women with children and those who live alone. With thousands of women coming home from the war, the V.A.'s promise to end homelessness by 2015 is going to be a challenge. Carol McKinley has the latest installment in our Homeless in America series.

Home of the Brave opens shelter for female veterans

James Fisher, The News Journal
10:59 p.m. March 28, 2014

MILFORD – Making its second attempt stick, Home of the Brave, the first shelter for homeless female veterans and their children in state, has opened a home in downtown Milford.

The Home of the Brave II building, on Causey Avenue steps from the downtown shopping district, is the nonprofit's second try at setting up a women-only veterans shelter.

The group bought a foreclosed home on land outside of town, on Griffith Lake Drive, and sought to renovate it to serve as a shelter in 2013. But resistance from neighbors, and the county Board of Adjustment's decision to grant a land-use exemption for only two years, prompted the nonprofit to sell that house and look elsewhere for a women's shelter site.

"That was a big stop-and-think moment," said Jessica Finan, the shelter's executive director. "We just thought, this is a losing battle. Let's see where else we can go."

Where they ended up is a home that had already served as a place of respite. Owned by the God's Way to Recovery organization, it had been a transitional home for homeless men, Finan said. Home of the Brave is leasing the seven-bedroom, five-bathroom home.

"It was already ready to go and had the variance from the city," Finan said. "It was kind of a no-brainer."

Three women are now staying in the shelter; one with her young son. One woman, in her 40s, served in the Army National Guard; another, in her 50s, was discharged from the Marines; the third, in her 60s, served in the Air Force. The shelter has room for a total of eight women and children at a time. Any honorably discharged veteran is eligible to apply.

Sheep storm Paris Louvre in farmers protest

A flock of sheep are turned loose in the Louvre gallery in Paris as French farmers protest against reforms to the Common Agricultural Policy

2:43PM GMT 28 Mar 2014

It was more je ne sais baa than quoi at the Louvre museum this morning as a flock of sheep and their farmers stormed the Paris landmark.

The protesters were from the Farmers' Federation, who carried banners reading "PAC'astrophe" in reference to the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy, which is under reform.

They were objecting to the effects of the industrialisation of agriculture, saying they feared for farmers' jobs.

"What we can see today is a desire on the part of the agricultural ministry to impose a marginalising policy which will get rid of farmers so we came here to say we don't belong to a museum and that our place is in the countryside, where we can revitalise the countryside, create jobs and develop quality produce, that's why we came here today," said a spokesman.

Beautiful plane..

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/03/30/REPORT-Obama-Admin-Released-Tens-Of-Thousands-Of-Illegal-Immigrant-Criminals
User Image
President Obama’s Department of Homeland Security caught then released 68,000 aliens who had previously been convicted of a crime, a new report from the Center for Immigration Studies shows.

The report, provided to Breitbart News ahead of its late Sunday evening release, reviews internal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) metrics to conclude that the Obama administration released 35 percent—or 68,000—convicted criminal aliens back into the U.S. general population when they could have been deported. “The criminal alien releases typically occur without formal notice to local law enforcement agencies and victims,” CIS’s Jessica Vaughan, the report’s author, added.

By “criminal,” ICE means people who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony that is not a traffic violation. For instance, traffic violations like Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or even vehicular manslaughter do not count toward this description of “criminal alien.” As for the definition of “alien,” ICE mostly means illegal aliens, though some are legal aliens when they are considered deportable legal aliens—which is possible for legal immigrants who have committed a serious crime, like a felony.

The documents also show ICE only deported a small fraction of the aliens they encountered overall.

“In 2013, ICE targeted only 195,000, or 25 percent, out of 722,000 potentially deportable aliens they encountered,” CIS’s Vaughan wrote. “Most of these aliens came to ICE’s attention after incarceration for a local arrest.”

This report comes out on the heels of a report from the office of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) last week which found that only .08 percent of the aliens deported in 2013 were not serial immigration law violators or convicted of serious crimes.

In response to these findings from CIS that follow up on his office’s report last week, Sessions said immigration law in America has essentially ceased to exist.

“The preponderance of the evidence demonstrates that immigration enforcement in America has collapsed,” Sessions said. “Even those with criminal convictions are being released. DHS is a department in crisis. Secretary [Jeh] Johnson must reject the President’s demands to weaken enforcement further and tell him that his duty, and his officers’ duty, is to enforce the law – not break it. As Homeland Secretary, Mr. Johnson is tasked with ensuring the public safety and the rule of law. But Secretary Johnson is not meeting these duties.”

The CIS report also contains a breakdown per city of percentages of criminal aliens who were released back into the population. San Antonio’s 79 percent is the highest, where ICE encountered 36,228 criminal aliens and released 28,680 back into the general population in 2013. New York City’s 71 percent is next, where ICE agents encountered 7,571 criminal aliens and released 5,391 of them. Washington, D.C. follows that, with ICE agents encountering 8,688 criminal aliens and releasing 64 percent, or 5,558, of them into the public. Other cities with high percentages include Salt Lake City, Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Newark, and Buffalo. Notably, many of these cities are not in border states, which means visa overstays and illegal aliens who crossed the border but migrated further inward are as much a problem as the actual U.S.-Mexico border in terms of stopping the flow and enforcing the law.

“These findings raise further alarm over the Obama administration’s pending review of deportation practices, which reportedly may further expand the administration’s abuse of ‘prosecutorial discretion,’” CIS’s Vaughan wrote. “Interior enforcement activity has already declined 40 percent since the imposition of “prosecutorial discretion” policies in 2011. Rather than accelerating this decline, there is an urgent need to review and reverse the public safety and fiscal harm cause by the president’s policies.”

Sessions echoed Vaughan’s concerns, saying the lack of enforcement for immigration laws further hurts the ability of American citizens to obtain employment.

“American citizens have a legal and moral right to the protections our immigration laws afford – at the border, the interior and the workplace,” Sessions said. “The administration has stripped these protections and adopted a government policy that encourages new arrivals to enter illegally or overstay visas by advertising immunity from future enforcement. Comments from top Administration officials, such as Attorney General Holder’s claim that amnesty is a civil right, or Vice President Biden’s claim that those here illegally are all US citizens (apparently including someone whose visa expired yesterday), demonstrate the administration’s increasing belief in an open borders policy the American public has always rejected."
