Telegraph

PETA has attacked naturalist Paul Rosolie for 'tormenting' the giant snake for a Discovery Channel programme

7 November 2014

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) accused Rosolie of "tormenting" the animal, and called the programme a "blatant publicity stunt".

On Twitter, supporters of the organisation dismissed the show as “unnecessary and cruel”.

In a statement, PETA said: “This blatant publicity stunt sounds far-fetched, but if the description is accurate, the snake was tormented and suffered for the sake of ratings – as animals usually do when they’re used for entertainment.

"Anacondas go days without eating and expend the energy needed to do so selectively. Making this snake use up energy by swallowing this fool and then possibly regurgitating him would have left the poor animal exhausted and deprived of the energy that he or she needs.

"Shame on this pseudo ‘wildlife expert’ for tormenting this animal, and shame on the Discovery Channel for giving him the incentive to do so. PETA has not heard back after reaching out to the Discovery Channel asking them to pull the show, whether it is a hoax or not."

The Discovery Channel has assured viewers that the stunt is not a hoax, and the snake survived. Entertainment Weekly reports that Rosolie covered himself with pigs' blood to encourage the snake to eat him, but both parties are not saying how much actually went down.

Rosolie's breezy response to the furore on social media suggests all is well, and the sensational show may turn out to be a storm in a (human-sized) tea cup.

France Arrests 3 With Drones by Power Plant

NYT

November 6, 2014

PARIS — Two men and a woman were questioned by the police on Thursday after being arrested in possession of two drones near the Belleville-sur-Loire nuclear power plant in central France, news agencies reported.

The arrests follow a wave of at least 14 illegal drone flights over French nuclear plants in recent weeks, which have raised concerns about the security of the country’s main source of electricity.

Our bodies contain viscous liquids that can grow thicker or thinner, and the scallop swimming
method of moving backwards and forwards
is the best way to move through those liquids.

You all knew that, right?

The micro-scallops don’t require battery power either –
they are propelled towards their target area
using an external magnetic field.

So what will the microscopic robot scallops do?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=eZ05z6ebKDQ

That's where it all starts to get a bit vague –
the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems scientists aren't completely sure.

They're hoping that their tiny inventions will become
a reference design for others to use as they develop medical technologies.

Essentially, we’re halfway there – we've got the scallops that can swim through our eye fluid,
but we don’t know what they’ll do once they get to the poorly bits.

Science – it’s always moving and flowing,
just like our viscous bodily fluids

Your point is taken; but mine still stands.

By the way, NASA lost interest a long time ago.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/chrome-browser-bug-can-let-malicious-sites-eavesdrop/
By Trevor Mogg — January 23, 2014

n normal circumstances when using Chrome, a red marker appears on a tab when you give a website access to your mic. However, Ater’s discovery shows that even when you think you’ve turned the mic off and the red indicator disappears, or you close the tab, a pop-under window that appeared when you granted the site access ensures that the mic remains active, capturing nearby audio for as long as the browser stays open.

According to a video (below) on Ater’s site, the mic can also be “programmed to stay dormant and only start recording once you’ve said certain interesting keywords” – functionality that may well have NSA agents choking on their coffee in excitement when they find out.

The Web developer explained on his site that he reported the bug to Google’s security team in September, after which they quickly acknowledged the issue. However, four months on, a fix still hasn’t been released.

An unnamed source told the NY Times the Web giant decided not to issue a fix because “the voice recognition tool complies with Web standards,” and instead the company is “working on better visual clues to show that access to the microphone has been given.”

Although Ater says he has no knowledge of any hackers having taken advantage of the flaw, the general message here is for Web users to be sure that any site asking to access a machine’s mic is legitimate.

With voice recognition software expected to gain much wider use in the coming years, Internet giants like Google and Apple will be keen to eliminate these kinds of issues in an effort to allay privacy concerns over such matters.

If you’re a Chrome user and you’d like to check which sites currently have access to your machine’s mic, take the following steps:
Click on the Chrome menu at the top right of your browser

- Click on Settings

- Click on Show advanced settings at the bottom

- Click on Content settings under Privacy

- Click on Manage exceptions under Media (you’ll need to scroll down a little way for this)

- If you’ve granted access to any sites in the past, they’ll show up here.

I hear ya grin

The entire thing of "allowing" a certain website access to your comp is dependent as to your "settings".
Been through this regiment before.
I have "allowed" specific" sites I delve as to my replies,
But,if the allowed site continues to elucidate undesirable infiltrations, they are BLOCKED.
If,in the future, the site decides,it will NOT make an attempt ,then perhaps,IT may be granted access.
Until then, they may kiss my ARSE ,and the thing which produces the feces of such.
