I like this item. When I was a kid in Churchill we raised a red squirrel we found in the bottom of an oil drum. My dad made a cage by putting posts in the corners of a wood box, and screening it in. That way we could put in a "tree" and so on. There was a little hinged door on the box, with a lock. As he grew, he chewed a hole under the door, and was somehow getting out. The hole looked too small for him to get in or out, but we put little stones in it, which he would remove and somehow get out. Eventually, we saw how he did it: he would put an arm out through the hole, reach up and slide the lock open. After that, we just left the door open and he came and went as he pleased. He had two favourite games. One was to get on your arm, then, as you spun around like a dervish, he would launch himself and land on a piece of furniture, then run back and go up your leg and onto your arm for more. He would have done that all day if you let him. The other was teasing the cat. Every morning he'd go looking for the cat and pick a fight. They'd spend the next half hour running around the house. At first I worried, but the squirrel was so fast he'd run up the stairs, followed by the cat, then at the top, turn around and actually run down the stairs, jumping on the cat's back (still on his way up) as he went. By the time the cat reacted by waving a paw in the air, the squirrel was already at the bottom of the stairs and gone.

Good morning Soryu,

What a wonderful squirrel! I had a pet rat growing up & he taught me how smart animals are.

2014 saw 20 veteran suicides a day

VA gives first precise count of 7,403 former service members who took their own lives

Gregg Zoroya, USA TODAY

An average of 20 veterans a day committed suicide in 2014, a trend that reflects record-high rates among young men fresh out of the military and growing numbers of women taking their lives, according to the first actual count of suicides among former service members.

The Department of Veterans Affairs previously had only estimated suicides, saying in 2010 there was an average of 22 a day. The 2014 data released Thursday are based on a precise tabulation of the 7,403 deaths.

David Shulkin, VA undersecretary for health, noted the slight decline from the 2010 estimate, but said, “It’s still far too high.”

The 2014 count is the first slice of a massive examination of 55 million veteran death records dating back to 1979. Shulkin said that a final report due in several weeks will detail more suicide trends.

The VA found the worst suicide pattern among male veterans, ages 18-29. Their suicide rate was 86 per 100,000 people, nearly four times the rate among active duty service members last year.

By contrast, the overall U.S. suicide rate is 13 per 100,000 people, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The new figures show the suicide rate among young female veterans, ages 18-29, was 33 per 100,000 — more than double the overall U.S. rate.

Shulkin said the suicide rate among all female veterans was more than double that of women who didn’t serve in the military.

“It is difficult to understand why that is happening. It is one of the things that I think will become a central research question for us,” he said.

Shulkin said more research is needed to determine whether women who served closer to combat or experienced sexual trauma in the military put them at greater risk of taking their own lives.

He said the VA has taken several “aggressive” steps to deal with the high suicide rates.

They include adding staff to the crisis hotline for veterans (800273-8255), identifying veterans at high risk, increasing mental health counselors and expanding mental health therapy via telephone.

In 2014, veterans accounted for 18% of all suicides in the USA, but made up only 8.5% of the population.

In 2010, veterans accounted for 22% of U.S. suicides and 9.7% of the population.

Good morning Swamprat,

I have two large oaks in my front yard. There used to be three. There are more acorns than you can imagine and as a consequence more squirrels than you can imagine. I love the little fellas but my dog doesn’t he barks at them. One time I had an RC truck in the front yard and wouldn’t you know a squirrel got in the back and while I was in the house he enjoyed the ride. Love the little fellas, oh and they’re so horny always scurrying about. Or maybe I should I say squirreling about.

Dallas Police Use Robot To Kill Suspect

NEW YORK

Robots have apparently chalked up a new first — a deadly one.

Police rigged a bomb-disposal robot to kill an armed suspect in the Dallas police shooting , what appears to be the first time U.S. police have used a robot for lethal purposes. As such, it may represent the latest escalation in the use of remote and semi-autonomous devices by law enforcement.

Police have been using such robots for decades for bomb disposal and in hostage standoffs and fires. Meanwhile, militaries around the world have come to rely on their robotic friends to disable improvised explosive devices — a need that only increased with the U.S. occupation of Iraq in the past decade.

While there doesn't appear to be any hard data on the subject, security experts and law enforcement officials said they couldn't think of another incident where police have done this.

HOW IT (PROBABLY) WORKED

Such robots — which range in size from something as small as a dog bone to as large as a truck — are often just a mechanical arm mounted onto a vehicle and equipped with a video camera and two-way audio communications, according to William Flanagan, a retired deputy police chief from New York's Nassau County who now does law enforcement and technology consulting. Many models used by police are about the size of a backpack.

Flanagan speculated that police in Dallas probably equipped their robot with a low-powered explosive — possibly one similar to what bomb squads use to blow up suspicious packages — that would only disable what's closest to it.

Dallas police didn't respond to a request for further information about their use of the robot.

MACHINE VS. HUMAN

Robotics expert Peter W. Singer, of the New America Foundation, said the killing marked the first instance of which he's aware of in which police have used a robot to lethal effect. But when he was researching his 2009 book "Wired for War," a U.S. soldier told him troops in Iraq sometimes used surveillance robots against insurgents, he added in an email Friday.

Regardless of the exact situation, the motivation for using the robots remains the same — keeping police and military personnel out of harm's way.

"The reality is, police in the U.S. are not combat troops, regardless of what people say about the need to demilitarize them," said Flanagan, who worked in hostage negotiation for about 10 years.

"It's sad, but in the military there are acceptable casualties," he added. "That's not the mindset of police in the U.S."

SYS,

"Indeed the Drones have come home to roost"

AN EXCELLENT POINT ~ cool

Now you know the rest of the story. ~ Paul Harvey

The Maidan Massacre

http://21stcenturywire.com/2016/07/08/dallas-maidan-staged-snipers-designed-to-inflict-a-strategy-of-tension/

"Back February 2014, events transpired in Kiev, Ukraine which sparked international outrage and calls for ‘regime change’ in Kiev, and served as the key catalyst for a coup d’etat and the ouster of Ukraine’s democratically elected president Viktor Yanukovych."

"A leaked phone call between EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton and Estonian foreign affairs minister showed how there was knowledge at the highest levels of European government, but western leaders opted to maintain a disinterested stance in the face of this new evidence."

"Since the incident, numerous investigations have been conducted that have documented beyond any reasonable doubt that the Maidan’s infamous ‘sniper massacre’ was a politically engineered event, designed to lay the blame for dead protesters and dead police – onto the government’s Berkut special police force, amplify domestic unrest and accelerate a US and EU supported geopolitical campaign of destablization which was already in motion."

"Earlier this year, in January 2016, one such academic investigation concluded that the sniper event at Maidan Square was in fact a ‘false flag’ event which was used to create a false public perception of events and usher in a shift in political power in that country. Canadian political science professor Dr. Ivan Katchanovski of Ottawa University concluded that"

"“This academic investigation concludes that the massacre was a false flag operation, which was rationally planned and carried out with a goal of the overthrow of the government and seizure of power,” wrote Katchanovski in his study, called ‘The “Snipers’ Massacre” on the Maidan in Ukraine.’"

Snipers in Homs, Syria

"In the early days of what western governments and media were portraying as an “Arab Spring” color uprising in Syria in 2010 and 2011, unknown snipers played a crucial role in advancing a “strategy of tension” and fomenting civil unrest, particularly in the city of Homs. Snipers were reported as firing on citizens and also shooting at police indiscriminately. The western media’s policy was not to report on this, but only to report on the state security reaction and crack-down triggered by these mysterious and seemingly random acts of violence."

"Some independent writers and researchers have reported on the anomalies of the Homs shootings, but as yet, no in-depth investigation has taken place."

"However, the testimony of Father Frans Van der Lugt in Homs, provided a look into what was happening during this ugly phase of a western and GCC-backed rebellion being waged in Syria:"

"“From the start, the protest movements were not purely peaceful. From the start I saw armed demonstrators marching along in the protests, who began to shoot at the police first. Very often the violence of the security forces has been a reaction to the brutal violence of the armed rebels.”"

"It’s clear now after looking back at numerous reports about these incidents, that they were designed to instigate a crisis, which would ultimately lead to either a political instability and civil unrest."

The Dallas Deception

"The Dallas Shooting is significant on a number of levels."

"Firstly, Dallas will further accentuate the artificial divide between what Americans perceive as the ‘Left’ or liberal wing of political society, and the what is sold as America’s ‘Right’ or conservative wing. In this dialectic, Democrat is set against Republican, young against old, black is pitted against white, wealthy against poor, upper class against middle class, and even middle class against lower class. In the run-up to the Presidential election in November, this division will be important in order to polarize America along a prefabricated dialectical line and thus keeping the national discourse down at a base, or emotional level – and through this binary process avoid any real examination of America’s fundamental issues, policy flaws and the federal government’s unsustainable bloated borrow & spend habit – effectively kicking the can down the road another 4 years (which seems to be the norm). Ultimately, this serves the state, its bureaucratic stakeholders and the power structure as a whole."

"Secondly, this event can be used to nudge the ‘left-wing’ and Democrat party’s own gun control agenda, which is being aggressively pursued at the moment. This wing of the political establishment has already demonstrated that it has no qualms about using a national incident or tragedy, like the Orlando Shooting, as warm PR leverage to push their ’emergency’ legislative agenda. Ironically, ‘left-wing’ and black activists will be blamed for this latest act of political violence and will be used in this case to further advance the political left’s own bespoke gun control agenda – much to the dismay of ‘Conservative America.’"

"As a result of this staged event carried out by agent provocateurs, “anti-police” or “anti-government” African-American ‘militant’, or ‘Black Power’ activists will be painted a poor light, and effectively marginalized. Once this process if complete, the state can then move in to extend that marginalization to any ‘anti-government’ protests – further neutering any real grass-roots opposition for what is obviously a rapidly growing police state in the US."

"Thirdly, this event is being used to increase tension between the public and law enforcement. Note the differences between the short and the long-term narratives at play here. In the short-term, this Dallas Sniper event is originally designed as a ‘reaction’ to US police killing poor unarmed black men on the streets of America, but in the long-term the pendulum will swing back to the state in order to “restore law and order”, thus further consolidating power into a more concentrated police state. This is evidenced already by US law enforcement are already rallying in solidarity, in an “us against them” dialectic by placing the nation’s police as the protagonist and the public as the antagonist."

Bookies have slashed the odds on a world leader revealing the truth about aliens before the end of 2016

Nicholas Reilly for Metro.co.uk
10 Jul 2016 10:37 am

Is the truth out there? If so, it looks like David Cameron or Barack Obama might be the man to tell us.

Bookmakers William Hill have slashed the odds of a UK prime minister or US president announcing that aliens are visiting earth from 1000/1 to just 25/1.

The huge fall comes after Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton pledged to ‘get to the bottom’ of UFOs if she is elected US president in November.

Yesterday also marked World Disclosure Day, with world leaders being urged to end an apparent ‘truth embargo’ and come clean regarding what they know about extra-terrestrial life.

Speaking at the Alien Cosmic Expo last month, Stephen Bassett, who is America’s only registered UFO lobbyist, said: ‘World Disclosure Day is not a prediction that disclosure will happen on July 8.

‘It is a designated day to draw focus on the issue. Think Earth Day.

‘However, on the day the first nation comes forward to finally and formally acknowledge the alien presence, that date will then become World Disclosure Day historically recognising the most profound event in human history.’

Bassett is convinced that President Obama will reveal the truth before the end of his presidency, and has even placed a 100/1 bet on it – with a $30,000 pay out.

Describing the huge drop in odds, a William Hill spokesman said: ‘There has definitely been a decent number of bets in recent weeks but with the election around the corner we expect loads more.

‘The last bet was 100/1 but we are now just 25/1 and will be offering maximum bets of £50.

‘Over the years we have had many bets for aliens but this is the first time that we have been worried. If we are truly going to find out then this year’s American election looks like the catalyst.’

ZETAR,

Maybe I should have said 'the laws of physics as we understand them'.

It will be remembered that I hold the view that maybe we are 'missing' something.
