HAL/INT21, I was referring to the speech capable programs/machines, purportedly mimicking our reasoning, who often come across as imbeciles.

I suspect your Tesla car got as far as it did by taking the fifth. NOT sayin stuff like "I suddenly sees a hole appear in the road the size of a truck, will now drive through it".

ZETAR,

Nice one.

But we pulled the plug anyway.

Interestingly, just after the decision, Junker referred to Britain as 'Rats leaving the sinking ship'.

We missed a golden opportunity to put it to him that he at last admitted the 'ship of Europe' was sinking.

And wouldn't any rat with a modicum of common sense get away from a sinking ship ?

Surely only those with a limited sense of self preservation would hang around and go down with it.

Purr,

We are long past speech recognition.

Basically this car didn't see the truck in front of it. The driver was probably thinking 'no problem, it will probably start braking about now...or now.. Oh Sh**.

From Tesla..

..Tesla also stressed the shortcomings of self-drive technology, saying: "Autopilot is getting better all the time, but it is not perfect and still requires the driver to remain alert."..

I meant to refer to machines/programs utilizing speech to express their functioning mind / self awareness or lack thereof.

Since they haven't quite got there yet, are not artificial persons (of Turing accreditation) (as far as I know) I still can make fun of them. Did so too with the selfdriving Tesla, because its manufacturers clearly believed it, miscalculated it ‘intelligent’ enough to participate in traffic. Not collide. Certainly not cause death! And the programming imo appeared to pass muster because they couldn’t test it like you would a human driver, putting them through theory and driving class. (A human being who tends to overlook large white trucks/vans wouldn’t do at all, getting disqualified as visually/mentally impaired.)

Maybe I ask too much. I do acknowledge Tesla genius…

Your looking at the problem from the wrong perspective.

When the worlds governments look at, say, overpopulation. It wrings it's hands and, for many reasons does nothing. Local religions etc being the usual things that prevent any progress.

An AI system will look at the same problem and do the logical thing. It will stop the breeding.

Remember, machines are logical, not emotional.

If it considered doping a reservoir or two with some chemical to prevent conception; it would, for the greater good, do it.

Logic, logic. The self aware machine stops human breeding. We try and pull the plug. It bars us from access to said plug. We try to force our way in or kill it by any means. The artificial entity deems humans an immediate threat. We're in Terminator 5 or 6 (frankly I lost count), and at war with the machines shocked huh tongue.....!!

I got to thinking on what I said here:

"Think about it. All the greatest minds of battlefield experts,Genghis Khan, Sun Tsu, Lao Tsu Patton all in a machine."

The programming involved to deal with the contrary views of these masters would be very interesting! Lots of conflict logic needed for differing solutions!

"One in a billion." That's how this shot was described by police: A Jeffco deputy fired at an armed robbery suspect... and ended up shooting a bullet straight down the other gun's barrel and disabling it.

Holy Crap! Went down the barrel. Drove the bullet into the casing and drove the slide out of battery and locked it! I'm amazed the compaction of the shell didn't set it off!

That had to line up within thousandths of an inch! No deflection!

Purr,

A person goes into a shop that has an AI assistant at the counter.

He asks for a loaf of bread.

The AI notes there is no bread left. And shoots the person.

It reasons that it could order up more bread, but it would have to do the same thing every time the bread ran out.

By shooting the person the need to procure more bread is permanently removed.

You do have to be very careful when allowing machines to make a choice based on logic.
