Just a heads up.

Recommended film.

'Night Train to Lisbon'.

Typical Jeremy Irons. A thoughtful story.

And it has a little twist that connects the first scenes with the later story.

Let us know if you spot it.

Ron Chester, 89 years of age, was stopped by the police around 2 a.m. and
was asked where he was going at that time of night.

Ron replied, "I'm on my way to a lecture about alcohol abuse and the effects it
has on the human body, as well as smoking and staying out late."

The officer asked, "Really? Who's giving that lecture at this time of night?"

Ron replied, "That would be my wife."

So, I was re reading Gregg Bear's 'Eon'.

And while considering what he calls 'City Memory', where the 'essence' of people is deposited when they have used up their allotted time as corporeal entities, I got around to thinking ' what would it be like ?

You have downloaded entities that can converse etc with each other. They can't physically interact, because, they are now bits in a massive memory. Ideas can flow. relationships form. What would it be like ?

Then the realisation came.

It would be just like it is for us on the net.

We, our electronic persona, exist in cyber space. We don't know who the others are in real life. We don't need to.

We can craft our persona to suite how we appear to the others; knowing they are doing the same.
Hide what we don't like, embellish what we do like.

We form mental pictures. or we don't. No need to really.

The others are essentially thought patterns that interact.

Lots of naughts and ones.

Waiting for the cyber future ? It's already here.

I thought they were already here, HAL/INT21! But that (almost completely) "blank" sun seems somehow ominous. Is he/she (not sure about the Sun's gender) building up to something??

(Having a flashback to The Knowing, adorable Nick Cage and meaning of EE=Everything Else coolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcool.)

Purr,

That one spot does look rather lonely.

I recall something from history about very low sun spot activity preceding periods of cold for us. I.e. The mini ice age.

I take it that you also saw that very unusual picture of the space station transiting Saturn.

And another big rock is to whiz by only 0.8 the distance to the Moon on the 5th April.

Jeff,

Did you see the green comet ?

Sys,

..ps..Hal who is Jeff?.

The product of a crossed neuron or two.

I meant, off course, Cliff-67.

I'm off to apply a logic probe to a delicate area. I may be gone a long time.

Maybe some one can help with this one.

I use Open Office. And at the moment am constructing a spreadsheet that will be 367 columns wide.

Now. The problem is I need to be able to see column A at all times.

But I can only display columns A to K at a comfortable resolution.

To enter or see more columns I have to shift the columns to the left. I.e out of site. The problem with that is that I then lose sight of Column A.

The question becomes, how do I 'hide' columns B to K so that the display shows A,L,M....etc.

Or how do I define the columns that are to be displayed ?

Hope someone knows how to do this.

anchoring row or cells appears..and I say appears..pretty straightforward

Or do it in one step by putting your cursor in the first cell that you want to allow to change, then click Window > Freeze.

For example, to freeze the first two rows and the first two columns, you'd put your cursor in cell C3 and click Window > Freeze.

Once freezing one should be able to hide column as in excel..
I will have to see in my open office

What I may suggest is perhaps linking spread sheets.and you can change or format each as you like for reading purposes..

I'll get back to you as soon as I experiment here

Sorry I missed your reply a month ago......been a fan of Tangerine Dream for a long time and Phaedra is one of their best from the early days.
I collect prog rock on vinyl and cd.
