You are probably right.

Even the pundits on CMBC don't appear to be able to see the point in it.

I don't see the difference in using this form form of currency against using any other exchange currency; except the rapid exchange rate makes it wildly impractical.

There seems to be no difference between buying this stuff and buying stocks.

Can the value go down ?

If so everyone who bought at the high rate will lose out. What is different to buying, say, Euro, and speculating that it's value will change before selling ?

Good morning cheesy

Paper money has no value except what is ascribed to it. I don't have any money to invest but I would probably be a dull investor. Safe and plodding. grin

Good morning lovely people.

Bigfoot History

TODAY IN BIGFOOT HISTORY!

Amazingly true stories and frightful encounters

1977, Collings Mountain Trail, Oregon: Female Bigfoot Seen Nursing

Nature hiker, Travis Jonathan, was hiking along Collings Mountain Trail when he stumbled upon something he never forgot.

Jonathan stopped to retie one of his boots. He looked down into the space under a large rock outcropping and saw a hunched over hairy figure. The figure was too human to be a bear and too animal to be a human. Jonathan watched the figure for a few minutes. Finally, he saw it reposition itself.

Jonathan was looking a a mother Bigfoot nursing a baby Bigfoot. The mother looked up and made eye contact with Jonathan, then swung herself around so that he was looking at her back. She turned her head a few times to see if Jonathat was still watching.

Eventually, Jonathan snapped out of his amazement to realize he was being very rude to the mother and child. He turned and continued his hike.

Funds focused on trading digital assets came second at 32 percent, with about $700 million in assets under management.

Funds specifically using machine learning, data science or statistical arbitrage on digital currencies came in third at 10 percent and $100 million in assets under management, the data showed.

Total assets under management by crypto-funds now stands at $2.3 billion, according to Autonomous Next's estimates.

This year's surge in the price of bitcoin and another digital currency, ethereum, have drawn attention to the cryptocurrencies and the potential of their blockchain technology. Proponents say blockchain could transform the world as much as the internet did, and several major banks are researching or developing blockchain projects.

Digital currency enthusiasts also attribute much of the latest surge in bitcoin to record highs above $6,100 to increased interest from institutional investors. While several leading Wall Street banking executives remain skeptical about bitcoin, more seasoned money managers are moving into digital assets management.

RECORD HIGH AT THE TIME OF THIS ARTICLE (Published 4:39 PM ET Fri, 27 Oct 2017) WAS $6100...WHILE YESTERDAY'S BITCOIN HIGH WAS 1 Bitcoin equals 11286.00 US Dollar AND TODAY IS 1 Bitcoin equals 9464.99 US Dollar

SO LIKE STOCKS IT WILL FLUCTUATE...SO THOSE WHOM CASHED IN/OUT WHILE BITCOIN WAS AT 11286.00 FOUND A TIDY PROFIT!!!

On 22 May 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz made the first real-world transaction by buying two pizzas in Jacksonville, Florida for 10,000 BTC. In five days, the price grew 1000%, rising from $0.008 to $0.08 for 1 bitcoin.

THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER CRYPTOCURRENCIES WHICH INDEED HAVE HEAD ROOM TO GROW AS BITCOIN DID...cool

STUDY: Satellites Show No Acceleration In Global Warming For 23 Years

http://dailycaller.com/2017/11/29/study-satellites-show-no-acceleration-in-global-warming-for-23-years/

Global warming has not accelerated temperature rise in the bulk atmosphere in more than two decades, according to a new study funded by the Department of Energy.

University of Alabama-Huntsville climate scientists John Christy and Richard McNider found that by removing the climate effects of volcanic eruptions early on in the satellite temperature record it showed virtually no change in the rate of warming since the early 1990s.

User Image

“We indicated 23 years ago — in our 1994 Nature article — that climate models had the atmosphere’s sensitivity to CO2 much too high,” Christy said in a statement. “This recent paper bolsters that conclusion.”

Christy and McNider found the rate of warming has been 0.096 degrees Celsius per decade after “the removal of volcanic cooling in the early part of the record,” which “is essentially the same value we determined in 1994 … using only 15 years of data.”

The study is sure to be contentious. Christy has argued for years that climate models exaggerate global warming in the bulk atmosphere, which satellites have monitored since the late 1970s.

While many scientists have acknowledged the mismatch between model predictions and actual temperature observations, few have really challenged the validity of the models themselves.

A recent study led by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory climate scientist Ben Santer found that while the models ran hot, the “overestimation” was “partly due to systematic deficiencies in some of the post-2000 external forcings used in the model simulations.”

Christy’s removal of volcanic-driven cooling from satellite temperature data could also draw scrutiny. The study also removed El Nino and La Nina cycles, which are particularly pronounced in satellite records, but those cycles largely canceled each other out, the co-authors said.

Christy said his works shows the “climate models need to be retooled to better reflect conditions in the actual climate, while policies based on previous climate model output and predictions might need to be reconsidered.”

Two major volcanoes — El Chichon in 1982 and Pinatubo in 1991 — caused global average temperature to dip as a result of volcanic ash, soot and debris reflecting sunlight back into space.

Those eruptions meant there was more subsequent warming in the following years, making the rate of warming appear to be rising as a result of man-made emissions or other factors, Christy said.

“Those eruptions happened relatively early in our study period, which pushed down temperatures in the first part of the dataset, which caused the overall record to show an exaggerated warming trend,” Christy said.

“While volcanic eruptions are natural events, it was the timing of these that had such a noticeable effect on the trend. If the same eruptions had happened near the more recent end of the dataset, they could have pushed the overall trend into negative numbers, or a long-term cooling,” Christy said.

ZETAR,

But what is the point in bitcoin ?

It seems just to be yet another 'product' that the money people are using to play amongst themselves with.

What is the base ?

The thing about the stock market is that the values given to a stock is based upon the value of the company and it's profits.

In other words there is an asset at the bottom of it all.

And when the company fails the people who were not sharp enough to sell their shares to someone else were left with a pile of script that was worthless. The real dollars they used way back at the beginning to buy the first issues have evaporated. all gone.

What is to stop bitcoin ( and other Crypto currencies) from devaluing ?

Crystal, Good Evening.

quite so. and this value is shown in the fluctuation of prices one has to pay for anything. Be it a Jaguar or a loaf of bread.

Good morning lovely UFOCasebookers

posted 28 November 2017

French wingsuit flyers recently completed an unbelievable stunt following a B.A.S.E. jump from the top of the Jungfrau mountain in Switzerland. Fred Fugen and Vince Reffet, known as the Soul Flyers, caught up with and flew into a plane in mid-air.

As part of their project A Door in the Sky, which they had spent several months training for by completing more than 100 test flights in Empuriabrava in Spain, the duo B.A.S.E jumped from the top of the Jungfrau, one of Europe’s highest mountains, and flew into a Pilatus Porter light aircraft in mid-air. Now that's a different way to catch a flight.
