Good morning UFOCasebookers cheesy

Science Daily

Repeating fast radio burst from an extreme environment

Extragalactic source of radio-wave flashes resides in a powerfully magnetized astrophysical region

Date:
January 10, 2018

Source:
McGill University

New detections of radio waves from a repeating fast radio burst have revealed an astonishingly potent magnetic field in the source's environment, indicating that it is situated near a massive black hole or within a nebula of unprecedented power.

The findings by an international team of astronomers, including Victoria Kaspi and Shriharsh Tendulkar of McGill University, appear in the January 11 edition of Nature and are highlighted on the cover of the journal.

A year ago, the astronomers pinpointed the location of the enigmatic fast radio burst (FRB) source named FRB 121102 and reported that it lies in a star-forming region of a dwarf galaxy more than 3 billion light years from Earth. The vast distance to the source implies that it releases an enormous amount of energy in each burst -- roughly as much energy in a single millisecond as the Sun releases in an entire day.
Now, using data from the Arecibo Observatory (Puerto Rico) and the Green Bank Telescope (West Virginia), the researchers have shown that the radio bursts from FRB121102 are highly polarized. The behavior of this polarized emission enables scientists to probe the source's environment in a new way.

Twisted polarization

When polarized radio waves pass through a region with a magnetic field, the polarization gets ``twisted'' by an effect known as Faraday rotation: the stronger the magnetic field, the greater the twisting. The amount of twisting observed in FRB 121102's radio bursts is among the largest ever measured in a radio source, leading the researchers to conclude that the bursts are passing through an extraordinarily strong magnetic field in a dense plasma.

"I could not believe my eyes when my colleagues emailed the results around," says Kaspi, who is a professor of physics at McGill and director of the McGill Space Institute. "This sort of enormous Faraday rotation is extremely rare. Once we digested it, we realized it was a huge clue about where this bizarre source resides."
One possible explanation for the hugely magnetized environment is that FRB 121102 is located close to a massive black hole in its host galaxy. Such highly magnetized plasmas have so far been seen only near the center of the Milky Way, which has its own massive black hole. But the authors also speculate that the twisting of the radio bursts could be explained if FRB 121102 is located in a powerful nebula (an interstellar cloud of gas and dust) or amid the remains of a dead star.

FRBs are a recently discovered class of transient astrophysical events, originating from deep in extragalactic space. Their physical nature remains a mystery. FRB 121102 is the only known repeating FRB, and this has also raised the question of whether it has a different origin compared to the apparently non-repeating FRBs. "FRB 121102 was already unique because of its repetition; now the huge Faraday rotation we have observed singles it out yet again. We're curious as to whether these two unique aspects are linked," says Daniele Michilli, PhD candidate at the University of Amsterdam and ASTRON (Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy).

New telescopes could provide answers

With a number of wide-field radio telescopes now coming online, more such sources are expected to be discovered in the coming year, and astronomers are poised to answer more fundamental questions about FRBs.

"The CHIME telescope in Penticton, British Columbia, should be an excellent instrument for detecting fast radio bursts and studying their polarization properties," says Shriharsh Tendulkar, postdoctoral researcher at the McGill Space Institute. "When it comes online in 2018, it should be capable of detecting between a few and a few dozen FRBs every day."

Support for the McGill researchers was provided by the Lorne Trottier Chair in Astrophysics & Cosmology, the Canada Research Chairs program, the Natural Sciences and Research Council of Canada, the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, and the FRQNT Centre de Recherche en Astrophysique du Québec.

The Focus Shifts...To Hillary

https://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2018/01/08/focus-shifts-trump-hillary-corrupt-fbi/

It has come to light that the FBI edited down FBI Director Comey’s investigation of Hillary in order to make it look like nothing was amiss. Comey’s conclusion that Hillary was “grossly negligent,” a conclusion justifying felony indictment for mishandling of classified information, was replaced with “extremely careless.”

The Chairman of the US Senate Homeland and Government Affairs Committee, Ron Johnson (R, Wis) has asked the current FBI director, Chris Wray, if the document was rewritten in order to protect Hillary. Senator Johnson is particular interested in the emails that show that some senior FBI officials were determined to prevent Trump from becoming US President.

User Image

Hillary’s misuse of classified documents on her personal server and subsequent effort to destroy the evidence is far more serious than anything done by Paul Manafort and General Flynn, both under threat of prosecution by Special Prosecutor former FBI Director Mueller. The FBI’s effort to protect Hillary and to dismiss her felony as “careless” is now confronted with Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ reopening of the case. Notice how the FBI first riggs the case and then puts itself in charge of investigating it. An agency this corrupt should be abolished.

It seems that Trump and his Attorney General finally realized that they are in a fight for their lives and have decided to counterbalance Mueller’s investigation of fake crimes with an investigation of Hillary’s and the FBI’s real crimes.

"a dwarf galaxy more than 3 billion light years from Earth"

Well.... One thing is pretty obvious.... If these repeating fast radio bursts are communication signals, they're probably not aimed at us. Homo sapiens has only been on this planet for roughly 30,000 years.....

Horsehead Nebula actually a terrible threat by the space mafia

User Image

The Horsehead Nebula was just left ‘lying around’ by the space mafia to let astronomers know to watch their step, according to reports.

Nobody is admitting to have left the expanding cloud of gas and debris in the constellation of Orion, but space scientists are taking it as the warning it so clearly is, a spokesman for NASA told us.

Expressing concern for their safety, staff at the space agency are being extra-careful what they say or do to upset extraterrestrial mobsters in case the next message is closer to home.

“Who can say how the horse’s head got there, but it looks like a friendly warning, see?” said space gangster Jimmy ‘Eight Arms’ Zagnarthrax when he came by.

“You Earthlings keep things nice and polite and there’ll be no need for any unfortunate accidents to happen to Uranus,” he added with a chuckle whilst absent-mindedly waving a tentacle around just so as you’d get the picture.

“Yeah”, he said. “We come in peace. That’s us. Nice and peaceful. Now, we’ve got a business proposal you might like to hear.”

Ecuador confirms that Julian Assange has become a citizen of the country and a DIPLOMAT as it requests a 'dignified and just' solution with Britain

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange became an Ecuadorian citizen in December
On Tuesday, the talk was that he may be expelled from the Ecuadorian embassy
But it was then revealed that Assange had received an Ecuadorian passport
Ecuador asked London to recognise Assange as a diplomat but Britain refused
Assange, 46, posted a pictured of himself wearing an Ecuadorian football shirt

By Gareth Davies and Kelly Mclaughlin For Mailonline
PUBLISHED: 11 January 2018

Ecuador has granted citizenship to Julian Assange, who has been living in asylum at the nation's embassy in London for more than five years to avoid arrest.

The WikiLeaks founder became a citizen of Ecuador on December 12, and now the country is seeking a 'dignified and just' solution with the British Government, as Assange continues to live in its London Embassy.

Foreign Minister Maria Fernanda Espinosa announced Thursday that Ecuador had asked London to recognise Assange as a diplomat - which would give him safe passage out of the embassy without fear of arrest - but Britain had refused.

'The Ecuadoran government is empowered to grant nationality to the protected person and thus facilitate... his inclusion in the host state,' Espinosa told reporters.

She said the request to Britain to accept diplomatic status for Assange was made on December 20, and denied a day later.

The foreign minister said Quito would not insist further on the issue because of the 'good relations we have with the United Kingdom'.

The British foreign ministry said in a statement that Ecuador had 'recently requested diplomatic status for Mr Assange here in the UK. The UK did not grant that request, nor are we in talks with Ecuador on this matter.'

News of his naturalization comes a day after he it was revealed he had been given an Ecuadorian passport.

Assange posted a picture of himself wearing an Ecuador football shirt on Wednesday, which added to the speculation he had been received citizenship.

El Universo quoted reliable sources who confirmed the passport document, numbered 1729926483, was issued to a Julian Paul Assange in December.

His name appeared on Ecuadorian Internal Revenue Service, and his file read 'the citizen/taxpayer has no information registered in the database or recorded by third parties', according to the paper.

An FCO spokesman said: 'The Government of Ecuador recently requested diplomatic status for Mr Assange here in the UK.

'The UK did not grant that request, nor are we in talks with Ecuador on this matter.

'Ecuador knows that the way to resolve this issue is for Julian Assange to leave the embassy to face justice.'

Swedish prosecutors have dropped their investigation into allegations against Mr Assange, but he fears he will be extradited to the United States if he leaves the building and that there is a sealed indictment ordering his arrest.

Ecuador's foreign minister, Maria Fernanda Espinosa, said: 'No solution will be achieved without international cooperation and the cooperation of the United Kingdom, which has also shown interest in seeking a way out.'

A United Nations panel concluded in 2016 that Mr Assange was under arbitrary detention.

A statement by Mr Assange's legal team said: 'The UN ruling, issued almost two years ago, is crystal clear in its language. Mr Assange is unlawfully and arbitrarily detained by the UK authorities and must be released.

'The UK should not permit itself to be intimidated by the Trump administration's public threats to "take down" Mr Assange.'

Yesterday, Ecuador said it was looking to end the ‘untenable impasse’ with the WikiLeaks founder, pictured, who has criticised Ecuador’s allies including Spain.

Assange moved to the embassy in Central London in 2012 as he tried to avoid extradition to Sweden over charges of rape and sexual assault.

But last year, the Australian, 46, angered Ecuadorian president Lenin Moreno by tweeting support for Catalan separatists.

On Tuesday, Ecuador’s foreign minister Maria Fernanda Espinosa said Assange’s stay had become ‘untenable’ and she was seeking a mediator’s assistance.

The charges against Assange have been dropped by Swedish prosecutors due to the impossibility of serving him notice, but the Metropolitan Police, which spent millions of pounds maintaining watch over the embassy, said he still faced a charge of failing to surrender to a court.

But how will this pan out ?

If Trump was using emails provided via Wiki leaks, and Assange was the wiki leak guy, is it in Trump's interest to have him arrested ?

Atlas Obscura

Win an Artists’ Dream Journey Up Nevada’s Most Inspiring Highway

Atlas Obscura and TravelNevada are looking for a pair of artists to embark on a traveling residency along Nevada’s Highway 95.

January 10, 2018

The otherworldly terrain, neon lights, and rugged history of Nevada have long inspired artists. This is a state where prehistoric petroglyphs co-exist with open-air installations conceived by world-famous contemporary artists. For more than 10,000 years, Nevada’s uncanny environs have been the ultimate muse.

There is perhaps no better place to experience this phenomenon than on Highway 95 (aka the “Free-Range Art Highway”) from Las Vegas to Reno, where works of art appear like mirages in the Nevada desert.

In 2017, Atlas Obscura selected the artist Paul Johnson to take a solo journey across Nevada’s Highway 50 (also known as ‘The Loneliest Road in America”) as part of “The Fellowship of the Loneliest Road.” Along Highway 50, Johnson created a series of animated earthworks that spoke to Nevada’s history and geology in addition to his own personal, solitary experience on the road. This spring, Atlas Obscura and TravelNevada will partner again to host “The Fellowship of Highway 95.” But rather than solitude, this time we’ll be focusing on camaraderie.
We’ll be sending a pair of artists on a journey up the Free-Range Art Highway to explore the route’s artistic legacy together. In collaboration, they will create a body of work inspired by their encounters on the road and their unique creative chemistry.

The Fellowship of Highway 95 will award two artists (all mediums welcome) with a full stipend to traverse the Free-Range Art Highway. Applicants must enter as a team, but need not to have worked together in an artistic capacity before. In addition to airfare and a rental car, Atlas Obscura will provide the recipients with $5,000 each ($10,000 total) for lodging and incidentals. While on the five-day trip, the selected artists will be expected to create a travelogue documenting the experience and artistic process. Upon returning home, we will work together to publish the completed body of work on Atlas Obscura and TravelNevada’s channels.

Fellowship applications will be judged based on four broad criteria:

The originality and feasibility of the proposal
The plan to integrate Highway 95/Nevada into the work
The artists’ demonstrated creative dynamic
The work’s ability to be displayed on digital channels

You have until January 24 to apply. Questions? Email elizabeth.horkley@atlasobscura.com.

Speaking of Gem finds ..Fusion GPS is described on a FISA Court Document as an FBI contractor that had been making multiple unauthorized queries from the NSA database which the FBI shares and can do so WITHOUT a warrant but still controlled. They were cutoff off April 18, 2016 by Admiral Rogers, an unsung hero in this saga..who caught them
On April 19, GPS Spouse went to the WH and things took a turn ..

Zuma: A New Twist On Space Radar?

By Colin Clark
on January 11, 2018 at 10:07 PM

WASHINGTON: Before we go any further, this story is based on direct observations of what was believed to be the so-called Zuma satellite, as well as a lot of spookily sourced information, most of it from a single source who shall not be identified.

First, nobody who doesn’t have extremely high clearance really knows if Zuma is in orbit or has been lost. Several sources I spoke with noted that remaining silent about the satellite would be excellent cover for the program, though that sounds more cunning than I’d expect. Second, the Northrop Grumman satellite may be a follow-on to another failed satellite US 193. When I was at Space News when US 193 went rogue, a source with direct knowledge of the program told me it was a blend of radar and electro-optical and would not provide any more detail than that. A source with wide knowledge of classified space programs has told me that the Northrop Grumman-built Zuma may be the next iteration of this. Both were apparently experimental satellites, in that they were not part of a large constellation of similar satellites.

Some very interesting informed speculation about Zuma’s apparent mission, based largely on its predicted orbit, its launch and several early sightings, points to it being a space radar satellite of some sort. Assuming it is a radar satellite, it should belong to everyone’s favorite space spooks, the NRO.

One of the world’s tiny group of eerily well-informed satellite watchers, Marco Langbroek, penned estimates about the satellite’s position from its launch and some early sightings that prompted this speculation by a colleague of his, known as Cosmic Penguin (a Hong Kong-based satellite tracker whose identity is not easily ascertained online).

Langbroek took that information and speculated about just what that arc of positions would allow the satellite to do: “Indeed, a satellite in a Zuma-like orbit would basically cover all Ocean surfaces, except for the high Arctic and Antarctic, which are not that interesting for the purpose discussed below (moreover, the Arctic is extensively covered by groundbased and airborne radar).”

But let’s be honest. None of us really knows at this stage, though past experience with the satellite tracker community gives me pretty high confidence they are on the right track when combined with the information from my single source.

Now the other issues: Did the satellite fall to earth as several outlets have reported, and was SpaceX’s Falcon 9 to blame for that failure, if it occurred? On the first issue, we really don’t know if the satellite is in orbit or not, yet.

Satellite trackers may well locate it in 10 days or so, unless, of course, it has fallen to earth. We know it made it to orbit, but, the Northrop Grumman-built payload adapter may have malfunctioned, dragging the satellite back down with it.
