The First UFO Sighting Report In America: Puritans See A Giant light

Posted on 06 December 2016

When people talk about the first UFO sighting in America, most automatically think back to the 1947 Roswell crash or the so-called Battle of Los Angeles during World War II (1942), but many would be surprised to know that sightings of UFOs have been going on for centuries.

In fact, according to History.com, the first UFO sighting report in what would one day become the United States was made by none other than the founder and governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, John Winthrop. The leader of the Puritan colony kept a journal wherein he recorded the goings-on of his fellow colonists. And in his entry for March 1, 1639, Winthrop retold an “unusual” tale that had been making the rounds in the colony earlier in the year.

According to Winthrop, James Everell, an English colonist he described as “a sober, discreet man,” and two others were out on the Muddy River rowing in a boat. They were traveling through swampland when they saw a rather large light in the night sky. “When it stood still, it flamed up, and was about three yards square,” the governor recorded, “when it ran, it was contracted into the figure of a swine.” Winthrop wrote that over the next two to three hours, the trio of boatmen had said that the strange light “ran as swift as an arrow” back and forth between their position on the river and the nearby village of Charlestown, which was approximately a two-mile arc. For added credibility to, Winthrop noted, “Diverse other credible persons saw the same light, after, about the same place.”

The UFO sighting wasn’t the only strange thing to occur on the nighttime boat ride, though. Governor Winthrop wrote that, following the hours-long sighting, the three men were shocked to discover that they were a mile upstream from their former position. Having no memory of the rowing the boat against the tide, it was if the light had somehow transported them upriver. (It was noted by History.com that the boat’s upstream position might have been a result of being pushed by the wind or being carried by a reverse tidal flow.)

The authors of Wonders in the Sky: Unexplained Aerial Objects from Antiquity to Modern Times, Jacques Vallee and Chris Aubeck, have a theory as to what might have occurred to the three Puritans. They wrote: “The mysterious repositioning of the boat could suggest that they were unaware of part of their experience. Some researchers would interpret this as a possible alien abduction if it happened today.”

In short, the first UFO sighting in America may have also been the first alien abduction as well.

It has been speculated that the “flamed up” light in the sky could have been an “ignis fatuus,” which History.com defines as “a pale light that can appear over marshland at nighttime due to the combustion of gas from decomposed organic matter.” But the light seen by the three men did not rise from the swamp, at least not according to Winthrop’s retelling. Instead, it was seen shooting back and forth across the sky, movement that makes the “ignis fatuus” explanation seem unlikely.

Also in the realm of speculation is that the Puritan UFO sighting may have been the origination of the term “when pigs fly.” Given the seeming outlandishness of the claims of the three boatmen, it would seem a fitting origin for the commonly used phrase that means that whatever is being referenced is an impossibility. However, The Phrase Finder notes that “when pigs fly” was first documented in 1616 in John Withals’s English-Latin dictionary, A Shorte Dictionarie for Yonge Begynners(and is said to be from a Scottish proverb).

A flying pig sighting or not, the incident, believed to be the first UFO sighting in America, was just one of three separate UFO sightings Governor John Winthrop recorded in his journal.

Shake Your Tail.......Bone!

How Humans Lost Their Tail, Twice

By Jen Viegas, Seeker
December 6, 2016

Humans can't seem to keep a tail, suggests new research that finds our early ancestors lost tails not just once, but twice.

The findings, published in the journal Current Biology, not only help explain why people don't wag dog-like tails, but they also shed light on why we all have a tailbone and begin life with an actual tail that gradually disappears.

"Fleshy tails go all the way back to the earliest vertebrate ancestors and are found in very young embryos, so it would be very difficult to get rid of them entirely without causing other problems," author Lauren Sallan told Seeker. "As a result, both fishes and humans have had to stunt growth instead, leaving a buried, vestigial tail much like the legs of whales."

The origins of this mysterious vestigial tail go back to fish. For the study, Sallan, an assistant professor in the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Earth and Environmental Science, analyzed 350-million-year-old hatchlings of the fossil fish Aetheretmon. This jawed fish distant ancestor of terrestrial animals today had both a scaly, fleshy tail and a flexible tail fin, sitting one atop the other.

Sallan found these structures were entirely separate. By comparing the Aetheretmon hatchlings with those of living fish, she found that the two "tails" started out one atop the other and then grew on their own. This discovery overturns at least two centuries of scientific belief that the modern adult fish tail fin was simply added to the end of an ancestral tail shared with land animals.

The disconnect means that the two tails went on their own evolutionary paths. Fish lost the fleshy tail and kept the flexible one to improve their swimming. Having just the back fin, she explained, "allows for more refined movements, which a muscular tail (originally present for power swimming) would disrupt."

Fish that evolved to become semi-aquatic and then land-dwelling animals lost the flexible back fin, but kept the fleshier one that over time became the familiar appendage we now see on dogs, cats, cows and many other animals. As dogs show, tails are useful for visual communication, slapping away flying insects and other functions.

Adult apes, including human ancestors, took the tail loss process a step further, Sallan said, "losing the remaining bony tail for better upright movement. Like fish, the remnants of an embryonic bony tail are buried in our lower backs—the coccyx or tailbone—stunted by a loss of molecular signals that would otherwise cause it to grow out like an arm or leg. Thus, humans and fish embryos share mechanisms for controlling tail form."

The fossil record for early apes is not great, but since apes lack tails, she thinks our primate ancestors lost them when they first started to walk on two legs. Monkeys that often walk this way have stunted tails, further proving that tails can get in the way of moving around while upright.

70-Mile-Long Crack Opens Up in Antarctica

By Stephanie Pappas, Live Science Contributor
December 6, 2016

An ominous crack in an Antarctic ice shelf as wide as a football field is long takes on an otherworldly beauty in a new aerial image.

User Image
A huge crack can be seen in the Antarctic Peninsula's Larsen C ice shelf in this aerial image snapped on Nov. 10, 2016, as part of NASA's IceBridge mission. Credit: NASA/John Sonntag

Snapped by scientists on NASA's IceBridge mission, the shot shows a rift in Larsen C, an ice shelf that is floating off the Antarctic Peninsula. When the crack eventually spreads across the entire ice shelf, IT WILL CREATE AN ICEBERG THE SIZE OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE, according to IceBridge. That's around 2,491 square miles (6,451 square kilometers).

As of Nov. 10, when the IceBridge scientists observed this crack, it was 70 MILES (112 KM) LONG AND MORE THAN 300 FEET (91 METERS) WIDE. THE DARK DEPTHS OF THE CRACK PLUNGE DOWN ABOUT A THIRD OF A MILE (0.5 KM), ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE ICE TO THE OCEAN BELOW.

According to NASA Ice, an Earth sciences program at NASA, this rift is relatively new — it showed growth on satellite imagery just this year. The U.K.-based Antarctic research group the MIDAS Project first observed the rift in 2014 and has been tracking it ever since.

Larsen C is Antarctica's fourth-largest ice shelf, and it holds back the land-based glaciers just behind it: Once the ice shelf goes, those slow-flowing glaciers have one less barrier in their journey toward the sea. In 2002, the nearby ice shelf Larsen B partially collapsed after showing similar rifting, NASA's Earth Observatory reported earlier this year, when it showed the collapse alongside a satellite image of the growing Larsen C crevasse.

According to the MIDAS Project, the eventual calving of the Delaware-size sheet of ice would remove between 9 percent and 12 percent of Larsen C's surface area and may lead to the crumbling of the entire ice shelf.

Big Changes in Lifestyle coming ..

User Image
There is a paradigm shift coming and it is about to rewrite everything we know about economics, human labor, and government dependence.

Earlier this week Amazon launched its first Amazon Go store, which allows a customer to walk in, grab the items they want, and simply walk out. Everything is tracked utilizing RFID chips, so the second you step out of the store Amazon knows exactly what you’ve purchased and automatically charges your account:

Amazon Go is a system that marries physical stores with advanced algorithms and sensors to eliminate the need for a typical store checkout. Instead of packing all the things you need into a basket or cart and then dragged it through a tedious checkout process, you just grab whatever you need and walk out of the store.

It sounds like a shaky concept at first, but only until you see just how advanced the technology really is. When you first walk into the store, you use your smartphone to open you virtual shopping cart. As you make your way around the store, a vast system of sensor tracks where you are, what you pick up, and what you take with you. The system even knows if you pick something up and then put it back, and will only charge you for things you actually intended to buy.

Amazon’s latest move is simply the next evolution designed to make human labor obsolete.

As Mike Shedlock recently pointed out at Mish Talk, the transition to automated systems like Amazon Go, as well as technologies like self-driving cars and long-haul trucks, has been fast tracked.

We’re no longer talking decades, but rather, a few years before we start to see the direct effects on the labor market:

Once again competition is the driving force that will guarantee success no later than a 2022-2024 time frame. By the end of that period, if not much sooner, long-haul truck jobs will vanish.

Perhaps drivers will be needed for final delivery in cities and remote locations, but the need for long-haul interstate and major state highway drivers will vanish.

My statement that “millions of long haul truck driving jobs will vanish in the 2022-2024 time frame” is likely way off on the low side if one counts Uber, taxi, and chauffeur driven vehicles.

Take a look at Uber’s goal once again: “replace Uber’s more than 1?million human drivers with robot drivers—as quickly as possible.”

That’s just Uber. And those jobs will vanish. All of them. What about Lyft? Taxis?

We’re talking tens of millions of jobs. And they’ll be gone within half a decade’s time.

The immediate response to such revelations is that there will be widespread societal upheaval.

How will displaced human workers feed their families or keep roofs over their heads?

The answer, according to Silicon Valley, which is driving the new paradigm full force, is quite simple and has been detailed in the highly rated documentary Obsolete from Aaron and Melissa Dykes (available free for Amazon Prime subscribers).

It’s called “universal basic income,” or UBI, and essentially means that every member of society will be given a paycheck to meet their most basic needs.

Aaron Dykes of TruthStream Media explains what’s coming in Obsolete:

Basically, a general idleness, an aimlessness of people who could become revolutionary, who could be subjected to civil unrest… who will probably be on social welfare and benefits for the rest of their lives and have nothing else to look forward to.

That’s the direction that the people in this country are actually headed towards.

Just a week and a half after Bilderberg’s June 2016 meeting it was reported that [Silicon Valley tech startup incubator] Y-Combinator was running a basic income experiment.

Billed as the “Social Vaccine of the 21st Century,” in Oakland, California where some 100 families were chosen to receive $1000 or $2000 a month in order to collect valuable date in the pilot on how to implement, manage and scale further UBI incentives.

So like.. Dude..Why are we importing so many people for..

GOOD MORNING ALL grin

Neah Bay in the state of Washington is a beautiful place. I am a native American, and my people have been here for a very long time. And over that time, there have been tales of the “hairy man” told to us.

However, until that morning on my trail run, I thought it was only a myth to keep us kids in check.

My name is John, and I am part of the Makah Indian Nation. I have a Christian name, and yes, I am a Christian as well. I am also, however, now a believer is some of the tales that are passed down by my people.

Why? Well, because one of them thus far has turned out to be true, and that is the tale of the hairy man, or what some have come to believe to be Bigfoot. Here is my story…
