NASA says unsafe eclipse glasses being distributed

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – NASA issued a warning Thursday to let people know unsafe eclipse glasses are being distributed by “unscrupulous companies.”

The space agency recommends only using eclipse glasses with ISO 12312-2 printed on them that have been printed by the four following companies:

American Paper Optics, Rainbow Symphony, Thousand Oaks Optical, and TSE 17

NASA says buying your eclipse glasses on Amazon does not ensure their safety.

“Make sure to check your eclipse glasses and viewers to verify that they have the correct ISO designation and were manufactured by one of the four companies recognized by NASA as legitimate,” the agency noted.

Also, the older ( cheap) eyepiece solar filters should be thrown away and never used (not sure if they're even sold anymore). I had one break about 40 years ago. My right eye still suffers damage to this day...

Although I have stared directly at the corona during a total eclipse before ( back in 79 ), I am on the fence whether or not it is "safe" to do so...

I hope everyone enjoys the eclipse. It is an awesome event, but please be safe when doing so. Permanent damage can result if observed incorrectly.

ESA, NASA’s SOHO Reveals Rapidly Rotating Solar Core

Quote

"The imprint of these g-waves suggests that the solar core is rotating once every week, nearly four times faster than the Sun’s surface and intermediate layers, which have rotation periods anywhere from 25 days at the equator to 35 days at the poles. Detecting the signature of the solar core’s rotation opens up a new set of questions for solar physicists — such as how differently-rotating layers of the sun interact, and what we can learn about the composition of the core based on its rotation."

Interesting article Cliff-67,
from my point of view, they still don't know everything about anything,
mostly our Sun,
since I like to poke fun at NASA,
hey why don't you folks at NASA, work out the process that caused
densification of gas planets and stars, or even rock planets.
