The motorcycle thing was my life but also the death of me. Since I would go to the high desert to race or ride most weekends I was a sitting duck out there for the boys in the sky. I think that's how I eventually got tagged, from camping out there for so many years in the desert. Bummer huh?

"1, i almost frikin fell off, 2, stupid me got on barefooted and burned the frikin skin off my feet cause dummy me ended up sticking my feet on the wrong spot.
qoh"

That's a major "S" on number two queenofhearts. Ouch, dang. Next time just open up your car door and put your barefoot down on the street as your moving and get it over with. NO SHOES? Well, at least you don't have what most passengers do.....a pipe burn on the inside of their leg from getting off the bike wrong.

MAJOR S is a very good term for it hon! i was like 13 and my cousin told me to jump on for a quick spin around the block. didnt get grounded for the ride but DID get grounded for being so stupid that i hopped on without shoes. One whole week. which was ok cause to tell ya the truth hon, thats about how long it took for some of the blisters to go away. rolleyes That was the last time ive ever been on one and have no desire to get back on another one lol.

You just said that you woudn't get back on a motorcycle because of something stupid "you" did.

That's quite profound when you think about it.

I forgot to tell you Ron, the first motorcycle I ever rode, the one I learned on anyway was a Bultaco Matador. The first motorcycle I ever rode was a 1967 or 68 Honda My ex loved Bultacos too. He had a Pursang.

Yea ISAW, lol i found out quick how dangerous it was. I have no desire to really get on them anyway, they just dont seem safe to me. Might be cause i dont know much about them . I was thrown off a horse once, fell and got injured, had a hole in my ankle from a sawed off piped that was coming up from the ground. Took quite a while and alot of doctor/hospital visits to fix that ankle lol, but i DID get back on horses after that. Not afraid of horses, but, those bikes, thanks but no thanks, i'll pass , im not that brave lol.

Queenie...if you don't know what you are doing....any animal as big as or bigger than you or anything with a motor can hurt you plenty. Moral of story: make sure you know what you are doing! Then there's the case of knowing everything but doing it anyway. That's called cleaning the gene pool. grin

Wow! A couple of ex dirt bike junkies. Remember Hodaka, Puch, Maico, Can-Am, Bultaco, Zundapp, Montessa, Puch, AJS, Cooper?. The Rickmans you mentioned came with a 125cc sachs (which in german means sucks without a shift kit) or a 250cc Montessa engine. Ah the smell of Castrol in the morning. Remember Super Hunky?

Remember Super Hunky - Yeah, I do. Just barely though from when I worked at Cycle News but it's been so many years. I left there when I was still riding a Hodaka so that had to be maybe 71 or 72.

And two-stoke oil we now know is extremely lethal to inhale. I remember many a day sitting on a line with all the fumes and butterflies. They don't go together but you always get both.

After the Elsinore GP was moved to Riverside Raceway, we use to have to sit with our motors running while each line (about 20 wide) took off in five or 10 second intervals. The lines were probably 100 or more deep. I feel for the last 50 or so lines since they had to be good and sick before they got to go.

I remember now, Super Hunky worked for Dirt Bike at the time. Almost directly after Cycle News I worked for JT Racing, Oneal, Bill Walters Leathers, and a bunch of others selling their gear to motorcycle accessory and motorcycle shops in Orange and Los Angeles Counties.

So Backlit, obviously you were a off-road junkie too. What were you doing out there and where.

Besides motocross I raced District 37 Desert - hare and hounds and european scrambles.

Yeah Backlit, I used to own a 1970 Hodaka Wombat. It was an enduro bike that weighed about 125 lbs, and would hit 70mph in second of the four gears. Problem was that at 18-19 years of age I was REAL light myself and couldn't keep from getting me and that darn bike blown around in the slightest of winds.

And if you kids are real good.....I'll show you a picture of the new monster I put around on for fun!

And don't forget the fast little Super Rat! And, did you know that they were imported by PABATCO, the Pacific Basin Trading Company owned by Shell Oil?
