xx Indentations in calf. What caused them?
« Thread started on: Jul 20th, 2015, 10:25pm »

Hello forum - I'm a new poster here, trying to get an answer about an odd occurrence that happened about a month ago. I'd like (or hope) that this is some sort of one-time medical ailment, but I've yet to find the answer for what it might be. I've always been a believer in UFO visitation, but I have always believed it to be fairly rare, and I've always viewed abduction cases with a fair amount of skepticism. I'm probably most like-minded to Stanton Friedman as far as approaching the topic I'd say.

So here is what happened. On a Saturday night, I went to bed at midnight, and set my alarm for 7 am. I rarely (perhaps twice in 10 years), fail to wake up as my alarm has 3 separate alarms that are turned on, some 7 minutes apart.

I woke up on Sunday at 10 am - my alarms had failed to get me up (and my wife also did not hear them), but all 3 were still set and on. I felt incredibly tired. As if I had perhaps gotten 3 hours of sleep.. I was that exhausted. I went to feed the cats because they were ready to gnaw my feet off, and as I bent down, I noticed a long dark mark on my leg. My mind was still pretty fuzzy. I finished feeding the cats, and then went into the bathroom to see what was going on.

On the calf of my left leg, there were four long indentations in my muscle, and past.. extending past the muscle into the thinner part of my leg. There was a fifth divot almost behind my knee. They were fairly deep, and dark. I had a touch of soreness in one, but that was it.

Holding my own hand to it because it felt natural to do so (since it looked so much like a hand), I found all the indentations were a bit thicker than my own fingers, and about an inch and a half longer. The middle marks were thicker, the ones on the ends were thinner, which is why it reminded me of a handprint.

About 30 minutes after I got up, I finally took some pictures.. I still felt incredibly tired. I took four with my camera.. a couple more with my iPad.. (I think I also took a few second video by accident). I woke my wife and asked her to look at my leg. She was stunned.. and the first thing she said was that it looked exactly like a handprint. She didn't know what to think, and like me, was a bit freaked out by it.

They slowly faded over the next few hours, and by noon, they had disappeared, and my calf looked normal again. Below is a link to a Flickr page where I put all the pictures for folks here to look at.

I've since evaluated and tried to logically figure out what caused these indentations. My wife and I both decided it could not have been a blanket or sheet. I sleep on my back, my left leg often jutting out a bit from the blankets. When I woke that morning, I was not tangled whatsoever in them, and we can't even imagine how tightly they would have had to been around my leg to create shallow indentations in my muscle that would last 3 hours. We tried to replicate it.. could not even come close to leaving marks that would last even a minute. Nor could we imagine in what way they would have had to be twisted to create that pattern. We don't believe whatsoever a blanket or sheet caused it.

We tried squeezing the muscle with some strength and for a bit of time to see if we could create the same effect. No luck.. any marks disappeared almost instantly, and it was fairly painful to even do that (and my wife squeezed a bit harder than I really feel was needed... : p ).

While I've had charley horses, they created a knot and were quite painful, and I've never had one that created an effect like that. And in fact, in 48 years, I've never had something like this happen. Nor seen anything like it.

So I'm posting here to see if anyone can provide any advice or ideas. In all the stories or pictures of abduction stories, has anyone seen something like this that is actually a known medical condition. Or should I be a bit more worried about what happens to me when I am sleeping.

Like I've said, while I believe in UFOs, I've been skeptical of abduction cases.. so am even skeptical of these marks on my own leg. But I've not experienced anything like this before.. it's baffling and I really want to figure out what happened during the night.

Here is the link to the pictures.. download and do as you will with them. I've found zooming out a bit makes them much clearer. Also, I finally figured out to invert them a few days ago.. and they become more striking when I do so. The other freaky thing is that not only are they long and finger-like, there are marks horizontally.. that are reminiscent of the joints in a finger. This is one mystery I really want to solve. Thanks in advance for any comments!

Welcome....
I would show the pics to an MD and or make an appt to get a medical opinion. The body has all kinds of strange effects during various conditions and illnesses and I would rule out any problem such as an auto immune, skin, or blood condition.

I'm also skeptical about much of the so-called alien abduction phenomenon but even so I don't recall any cases where 'aliens' left long fingerprint indentations on their 'abductees' that then faded in a short time.

I do plan to show a doc on my next visit. I did peruse many sites though looking for something similar, and I could not find anything. Doesn't mean it can't be something less common however.

The reason I am posting here as well is the combination of elements. The marks.. how they look, their size and so on, the feeling of lack of sleep with 9 hours in bed, and the missing of alarms going off. To be fair, the leg thing may have caused me a restless sleep I suppose, but I'd think something so painful as to do what it did, would have certainly woke me up.

The other thing.. the only references medically I can find to those sorts of dips in the skin are conditions that evolve over time. Loss of muscle tissue, etc. (MLS and ALS seem to be big concerns). Everything I've seen so far, the indentations form over time, and fade over weeks or months (or not at all). I've seen nothing that forms quickly and fades over the next few hours.

Maybe a doc will shed some light. I did post on a medical board first, no one had a clue there.

Did you ever see a doctor or come up with any other possible explanation?

Taking advice from an internet cat: Sleep well and.... peacefully...

Welcome Hirokage! Well, you got to feed those kittens, otherwise there's really no telling what they'll start gnawing/masticating on next! smiley Thanks for sharing the photographs, that does look like palm/digit shaped bruising/discoloration.

Don't bother to respond if this isn't so, but the missing element in your post is any actual memory you (or your wife) have of alien interaction, abduction type activity whatever.

I'm very much interested if you had stuff like that to add, but just by the post as it stands you are making a lot of sense already. My take on it is (assuming you are reporting accurately) that your temporary markings could be explained by naturally occurring sleep positions. (I do believe in an authentic abduction phenomenon, however not to the extent it is happening to everybody, all the time, nor as default for anything unusual.) May sound too mundane for you(?), but bear with me. Check out the abbreviated range of 24 normal sleeping movements, a truly physical dance of the night, for one (or two) sleepers:

Especially have a look at (counting from top left to bottom right) nrs. 3, 11 and 23, examples of somewhat curled or 'fetal' positions. As I'm sure you're aware normal sleepers range through most of the shown positions, although with personal variations. My guess is that the digit-like discolorations were caused by your body staying in one of these fetal configurations for an extended period of time. I remember a psychological theory linking the Fetus move to distress, like a nightmare, or even dream memories of a person's own time in their mother's womb, or ALL THREE COMBINED! The body then may express strong negative emotions by contracting into a ball, in your case placing the open hands between your calves, using the combined strength of legs and arms to create the deep/elongated "indentations" you noticed when waking up.

Example of a palm-to-back of the hand position which could result in deep/elongated markings on the skin.

Sleeping through alarms then might be due to the internal aspect of these motions: you body may have expressed being in a bad (dream)place, speculatively relating to very bad memories, causing you to sleep more deeply than normal. Who knows, your sleeping mate, kinda moving with'ya in sympathy, may have slept/dreamt equally deep, so you were both affected!

I do not get the impression you were abducted here cheesy.

There you have it: more internet advice/personal opinion! For now sleep well and... peacefully...
