Illegal immigrant mom accused in stabbing deaths of children, husband smiles in court

The illegal immigrant accused of stabbing to death her four children and husband in their Georgia home put on a bizarre show in court on Friday, smiling and posing for news cameras and even giving a double "thumbs up" gesture.

Maria Isabel Garduno-Martinez, 33, whom local law enforcement identified as Isabel Martinez, entered the U.S. from Mexico illegally, U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement spokesman Bryan Cox said in an email Friday. It's unclear if the rest of her family came to the U.S. legally.

Martinez appeared in her first court hearing on Friday after being charged with five counts of malice murder, five counts of murder and six counts of aggravated assault.

She denied legal representation, telling Gwinnett County Magistrate Judge Michael Thorpeher that her attorney is the people and her faith.

Martinez allegedly stabbed her children and husband early Thursday morning in her Loganville home, about 30 miles east of Atlanta, police said. She had called 911 to report the stabbing just before 5 a.m., Fox 5 Atlanta reported. Four children — Isabela Martinez, 10; Dacota Romero, 7; Dillan Romero, 4; and Axel Romero, 2 — and their father, Martin Romero, 33, were found dead in the home.

A fifth child, identified by family members as 9-year-old Diana, survived the stabbing with serious injuries.

Martinez was immediately arrested and charged later that day.

At the hearing, Martinez held her armed open and swayed them back and forth as Thorpe read the charges against her. She then pressed her hands together in the "prayer" position.

Thorpe rebuked, saying: "Ma'am I'm going to ask you to cut out the displays for the camera. It's probably not good or to your benefit."

The motive for the deadly stabbing is still unclear.

"What prompts a person to take the life of such innocent children and her spouse is something we may never understand," Gwinnett County police said in a statement. "This is a horrendous crime not only for the victims but for the extended family, neighborhood and community."

Awful story, Swamprat, unimaginably sad loss of young lives, a family. Is it religious mania at work? If so (or not, say someone other than this mom killed them) she should have lawyered up tongue.

I'll go with mania (have no clue really), and it's actually highly evolved behavior. Gods and Faith over eons most likely hardwired into the human mind, aren't some 90% of us today 'believers' of sorts? I think evolution doesn't intrinsically lead upward to good and better behaviors, it rather just keeps on experimenting with stuff that somehow 'works'. And both murderous and highly imaginative behavior seems to have worked for us just fine in the (pre-)historic past, right up to the invention of the atomic bomb...

Let us be sure that those who come after will say of us in our time, that in our time we did everything that could be done. We finished the race; we kept them free; we kept the faith.

Teens filmed, mocked and laughed while man slowly drowned

Published July 20, 2017

Authorities in Florida say that a group of teenagers recorded the drowning of a disabled man last week — and did nothing to help as they made fun of his struggles.

Jamel Dunn, 32, of Cocoa, drowned in a retention pond July 9. His body was recovered July 14, two days after his fiancee reported him missing. Late last week, a friend of Dunn's family came across the video on social media and forwarded it to authorities in Brevard County.

In the video, which was published by the Florida Today newspaper Thursday, the teens can be heard laughing at Dunn as he splashes futilely in the water and screams for help.

"Get out the water, you gonna die," yells one, while another yells, "ain’t nobody fixing to help you, you dumb (expletive)." As Dunn disappears under the water, one of the teens says, "Oh, he just died."

Investigators say none of the teens — all between 14 and 16 years old — called 911 to report Dunn's drowning or tried to help the man.

"They just laughed the whole time," Cocoa Police Department spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez told Florida Today. "He was just screaming ... for someone to help him.”

Police said the teens were identified and questioned by detectives, but it's unlikely they will face charges, since they were not directly involved in Dunn's death.

The Brevard County State Attorney's Office called the video a "tragedy" and said the teens had "no moral justification" for not attempting to help Dunn.

Swamp,

...Police said the teens were identified and questioned by detectives, but it's unlikely they will face charges, since they were not directly involved in Dunn's death..

One could say that by neglecting to either attempt to assist this man to get out of the water or to call 911 for professional assistance that they were directly responsible for his death.

It may be more appropriate, and much more satisfying, if his relations round up all the people involved and drown them, one at a time, in front of the group.

At least that way some of the world's scum will have been removed.

Swamp,

Further.

I for one have now no wish to watch a video of someone drowning.

This site is for UFOs, not snuff movies.

I would be grateful if you would remove the link. Leave a reference to it if you must, but not a direct link.

Teens who recorded, mocked drowning disabled man charged for their involvement

Published July 21, 2017

A group of teens who recorded and mocked a disabled man as he drowned in Florida last week have been formally charged for their role in his death, authorities said on Friday.

The charges against the five teenagers who recorded and made fun of Jamal Dunn, 31, as he drowned in a pond on July 7, were not detailed in a press conference, News 13 reported.

But Cocoa Police Chief Michael Cantaloupe said there's no law requiring people to report to officials that someone is dying. AFTER SOMEONE HAS DIED, HOWEVER, PEOPLE ARE REQUIRED TO CONTACT AUTHORITIES, HE SAID.

Police are currently in the process of filing paperwork to the state’s attorney’s office, Cantaloupe said.
