Bob Gimlin regrets filming Bigfoot, had a sad life
Post by Nyx on Jul 7th, 2016, 5:03pm

The original 1967 filming of Bigfoot only brought a miserable life for Bob and his wife.

To this day he stands by his story.

Bob only made ten dollars from the filming.

Well it is typically known as the Patterson-Gimlin Film.

Bob was assisting Patterson, who was footing the bills, so hence the film belonged to Patterson who sold the rights to Rene Dahinden at some point...

So Mythos,

I wonder how many UFO Casebook members think this film is the real thing?

I have watched this film several times, and I can not decide if this is a man in a costume or a real Bigfoot?

I did read once a doctor said this was a real Bigfoot because his walk would be impossible to imitate.

Any comments for anyone?

I don't follow much Bigfoot sightings. I think the evidence is lacking. Anyway here's a Skeptoid podcast about this film. I think it makes a good case that it's a fraud but decide for yourself.

Thanks GhostofEd,

I enjoyed the article, and it strongly suggests a big hoax.

It probably was a hoax !

I thought Patterson or someone close to him said it was a hoax before he died...?

LOL, The fact is, the Patterson-Gimlin film has NEVER been proven to be fake and no Mr. Patterson went to his death bed saying it was real.

There is a guy named Thinker Thunker on YouTube who analyzes Bigfoot recordings and he has analyzed the P-G Film:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eB4fhlhWsGQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EicVEOtm1A

Like many UFO cases, there is much more evidence available, along with the actual story of how it was filmed. It happened something like this:

Patterson & Gimlin were in Canada or Washington searching for a BF to film, when they were notified that BF tracks had been spotted in the Bluff Creek area, so they raced down to the area, as I recall they had searched a few days with no luck when they came across the tracks of three BF's. They were following them along a creek when they spotted the one that they filmed. The horses got spooked and one of them grabbed the camera while he called to the other to grab his gun, in case it turned and charged them. It was a female that walked off into the brush and when later asked why they did not follow her, they stated they worried worried about the other two! They also cast a number of foot prints at the film location, and those exist to this day.

In recent years someone came forward and claimed to have been in the ape suit, but that was never proven as there was never any evidence found that it was a suit and there since you can see muscles flexing, there is little chance it was suit anyway.

When you dive deep into BF research, you will find a number of things including dozens of reports from the 1800's up until through the 1940's of wild hairy men out in the forests, this is NOT a new phenomenon.

Also there have been something like 20,000 reports since the late 50's and due to fear of ridicule it is estimated that as many as 1 out of 10 don't get reported, meaning there could be 200,000 actual encounters in the last 60 years.

Like UFO's it is a battle for the truth, and also like UFO's the truth is in the numbers. Unlike UFO's the descriptions, mannerisms, actions, and behavior is generally the same..!

I had a chance to read this and it does have just enough facts pieced together (Along with a ton of made up and even more filler that cannot be verified). to make it sound reasonable, but I'm sure if you have read much from the UFO debumkers you can see a common theme here...

The serious researchers long ago dismissed it. There are still a few troo beleevers that cling to the story. It has only 'never been proved fake' to those who ignore the facts.

I thought it looked like someone struggling to walk in an awkward costume. The gait is not an fluid smooth bipedal motion.

I agree with you Dave.....I never thought the film was genuine.
And once again I thought someone connected to the whole Patterson thing came forward years ago to say it was faked. I'll have to look that up....here are a few links claiming it was a hoax....the man wearing it and the suit maker....

Gimlin is now 85 years old. His memory is no longer what it once was. With confabulation and normal age related mental changes it is entirely possible he believes it to be real even if a fake.

I am convinced it is genuine, and so far the only genuine film footage of a living Bigfoot. The thing that tipped the scale for me, was examining the animal at great enlargement, you can see the muscles moving under the hairy skin, the breasts swinging pendulously as she moves, even what is apparently a torn ligature muscle on one leg, which is affecting her stride. The nature of the walking is not impossible for a human to copy, however it is not at all comfortable to do. But the muscles under the skin, the face showing facial expressions as she moves, as if she is frightened by the approach of the humans. If you have a way to enlarge the footage frame by frame, take a look at the legs as she walks, and see if you are not then convinced it is real.

Also, having had my own 'encounter' with a Bigfoot, I no longer have any doubts about their existence. It is hard to say something doesn't exist when you are standing 100 yards away from it. The discovery of the dermal ridges in the foot and hand prints are another point of evidence, and I would point to the DNA evidence as well, even though it has been coming back as "human" - our researchers seem to ignore the possibility of a giant human species as the real answer to what Bigfoot is. There were two species of giant humans in the fossil record, it would not require inventing a new species to explain the existence of a surviving, though rare, population of primitive giant humans, humans that do not use fire and only the most primitive of tools.

Please do continue.

Hello Oroblanco and welcome, that is cool that you have had an experience, please feel free to tell us about it here (you can make a new Thread).

The fact is Bob is still going strong and attending Sasquatch/Bigfoot related functions and despite some people wanting to write-off and mistrust anyone who is 85, I can tell you based on my own step-father being 86, is still extremely coherent, that logic dictates you can't use a persons age to determine their truthfulness.

This is an excellent video of Bob telling his encounter story from two years ago (when he would have been 84), and he certainly sounds like he is not having any problems recalling details:
