Well, the pilot is not related to me, but it is an interesting thing I've never heard of before around here....

While flying over Gadsden County recently, pilot Dave Young noticed something peculiar he'd seen on science fiction TV but never while hovering over the Big Bend.

The aviation instructor saw crop circles oddly precise interconnected circles pressed in a Quincy field north of Lake Talquin.

A search through the Tallahassee Democrat's archives renders no mention of them in years past. The Democrat reached out to the farm where the rings appear to be and hasn't received a response.

"Wow, that's both bizarre and interesting and kind of lovely," Young said about his initial reaction to the sight.

It was the first time he had seen the elliptical impressions in his 30 years of flying over the region though he admits he may have been more attuned to the mysterious art this fly around, since days before he'd been reading Carl Sagan's "The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark." Sagan writes about conspirators Doug Bower and Dave Chorley who confessed to stamping several patterns throughout fields in England in the 1970s.

Still, enthusiasts around the world revel in the idea of the designs being enigmatic cryptograms or messages from a remote galactic life paying our world a visit and leaving their mark.

Young scoffs at that but, whether it's a farmer's artwork or a kids' maze, he thought the view was an intriguing one.
