Just a reminder and word of caution. When it comes to UFO reports for the next four weeks or so, remember that August of this year is to be a month of unusually heavy meteor activity.

The Perseids are supposed to be quite active!

Supercharged Perseid Meteor Shower Peaks This Month

By Sarah Lewin, Staff Writer | August 1, 2016

The Perseids are here: The dazzling meteor shower's peak of activity is Aug. 12, but you can already see its streaks of light peppering the sky.

Skywatchers are particularly excited about this year's Perseids. Though the meteor shower is an annual event, the Perseids are in outburst this year. That means that rather than 80 meteors per hour, we might see 150 to 200 per hour, according to NASA meteor expert Bill Cooke.

"Next, we move into the August Perseids, which is perhaps the most popular meteor shower of all," Cooke told Space.com in our summer meteor shower guide. "This year, they will be in what we call 'outburst' ó their rates will double, because we're running into more material left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle."

Earth is passing through a particularly dense clump of debris this year ó the source of the outburst ó caused by the influence of Jupiter's gravity on Swift-Tuttle's trail. The number of meteors is increasing as Earth penetrates the heart of the debris, and it will diminish again once it passes through (after the peak).

I had a sighting ( as you are most likely aware Swampy) , on Aug 12 several years ago during the Perseid meteor shower. I am not alone, there was another witness with me that night. I later found out that someone else close to me was at that same lake that night and saw it too.

I'm viewing it from a different lake this year...in my new hometown.

If it was something that our Govt. has ( which I highly doubt), it is an amazing vessel.....Nothing would stand a chance against it.

Don't forget also the Capricornids are peaking as well on the 2nd....Southern viewers especially will have a great show.....lot's of fireballs.
shocked

The Perseids are expected to be awesome this year,,,,I'm camping out under the stars....

I don't want to see what I saw before.....

Very interesting Cliff-67,

I find people are reluctant to talk about their UFO events.

In my younger days, I found the paranormal would happen when totally not expected.

Lately there has been a "dry time" in our area with few reports of UFOs.

There was a crop circle in Gray, Tennessee (population 1,000) which is located in rural Appalachia.

This was the usual story, according to the farm owner. Neighborhood farms are far apart from each other and the crop circle just appeared over night.

Nyx,

When I was very young (early 1970's), an orange object ( witnessed by multiple family members), flew over during daylight hrs. in a rural area here in Missouri. Some of my family members investigated where it landed. It left three impressions. There have been other events involving these orange objects since.....

I have witnessed a few things in my life I cannot explain. I can usually identify what I'm observing..... undecided

EDIT TO ADD : The perseid sighting was blue.....and very quick.....displaying mind blowing maneuvers.....

cool

EDIT # 2 - The orange objects were NOT chinese lanterns.....I can identify them without a problem.... wink

Wow,

This orange object left a physical trace !

Things like this make me wonder what is really out there.

I ponder this thought all the time.
