Filer's Files

George Bush Senior on UFOs

During a recent Jeb Bush fundraiser in Orlando, his Father, and former President George Bush Senior left the large crowd uneasy after responding to a question about UFOs from Adam Guelch, a member of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

During the fundraiser, a man in the crowd* raised a strange question which led to an even more surprising response by the former president and CIA director. The man asked George Bush Sr when the US government would tell Americans the truth about UFOs, to which he responded: “Americans can’t handle the truth” before organizers of the event briefly halted the questioning.

Oddly enough, it is not the first time George Bush Sr has had a controversial opinion on the UFO subject as a similar incident occurred on March 7, 1988, during a trip to a George Bush for President Rally in Rogers, Arkansas. The to-be president was then asked, in the advent that he became president, if he would tell Americans the truth about the existence of UFOs, to which Bush replied: “I am very careful in public life about dealing with classified information,” he told the reporter.

James Adder, journalist for the Arkansas Globe at the time, also asked about Bush’s knowledge about the UFO phenomena, on behalf of which Bush answered:” I know some. I know a fair amount” before ending the interview.

Interesting info. George's filters probably aren't as sharp as they used to be, so with those responses he's saying a lot more than he probably realized. Bush Sr. was in a position to know, but the current crop of government officials maybe are not.

It's one thing to believe that we are not alone, but it's another to have it confirmed that not only do we share the universe with others, they have been here and we can't do a thing about it. Not everyone would lose it, but certainly some would. I could name a few on this site...wink

That means even if the public were told everything and the national archives were thrown open for investigators wander and search at will, there would still be a large segment that would reject anything that does not align with their previous beliefs.

Old saying: If you look long enough and hard enough you will always find what you seek, whether it is really there or not.

This means if you believe a conspiracy theory, everything you read and hear will support the theory, and you dismiss anything that contradicts it. Confirmational Bias.

I think it depends. For example, if the gov said UFOs are real objects but of unknown origin, then I would agree that a certain percentage wouldn't accept that as true. If disclosure involved acknowledged contact and substantial information, then I think those who had a preconceived notion of something less definite would accept the new reality. Of course not everyone would accept that either, to your point, but on a percentage basis most, I think, would.

Any such disclosure would invite another wave of speculation and distrust, so the conspiracy theories wouldn't abate. It's a real disincentive for those in the know, if there really are those in the know, to disclose the facts.

Based on Bush's comments, it does appear that there are some people who are in the know.

I'm a bit surprised and disappointed that this topic hasn't created a lively conversation here. I think the message in Bush's comments are significant and should have garnered more interest than it has.

The only thing Bush Sr said in those remarks was that he had nothing to say....imo there's nothing in there that implies there are any aliens or ufos in hangars anywhere.
The first rule of intel obfuscation is to act like you know something without really saying so. He did just that.

Bush Sr was president and CIA director for a while but as others here have opined it doesn't mean he was privy to inside info of any actual ufo group assuming one ever existed. Some here seem to think that it's only need to know....so why would he as pres or director be told anything if he was not part of the so-called ufo working group. If there is anything to know it's possible it's deeply hidden with extremely limited access......who knows?

He did say "Americans can't handle the truth.", but maybe he just got done watching "A Few Good Men". wink

Of the most recent presidents, Bush Sr. was in the best position to have some knowledge of the subject. It's pretty well accepted that the CIA did investigate UFOs but didn't want anyone to know about it. As the head of the CIA, Bush would have the need to know. That doesn't mean they know any more than we do, but there is always a chance that they do.

As for the disinfo angle, unlikely in this instance. At over 90 I doubt he's actively playing that game.

Guys, it really can't be overemphasized to fact-check and locate sources of stories. The original source, in this case, appears to be World News Daily Report, an infamously inaccurate 'satire' website:

http://worldnewsdailyreport.com/george-bush-senior-on-ufos-americans-cant-handle-the-truth/

Searching this forum will reveal what's been documented about their "stories" in the past, and reviewing the internet, as well as the website itself, will of course reveal more. World News Daily Report current headlines include stories about a viking ship on the Mississippi River and Jesus being an alcoholic, among others. Their disclaimer:

JJ is correct. I got the original info from Filer's Files, but I did not check the initiating source.

The real damage, as I see it, is the wholesale manipulation of people willing to suspend judgment and explore reports of UFOs and related phenomena. It's often carried out by the very orgs and investigators claiming to advocate for them.

I think we should hold our community members like Filer to the same standards we would impose on the satire sites. IMO, the failure to do so has resulted in decades of conditioning and the resulting unsubstantiated beliefs induced by prioritizing quantity of stories over quality.

Thanks JJ....as always you get to the core of the issue.
And it is indeed a shame that Filer would let something like that get posted without cking the source which is why all the ufo stuff that gets posted by believers is not credible most of the time.

Oh great. We had the start of a good discussion and then ...THIS!

Ha, just kidding of course. I actually did a quick check to see if the story had any support before I first posted here, but obviously I didn't look very closely at it. You are right JJ, and thanks for keeping us on track.
