I know ? My only comment would be that the series is for a new audience. Trust no one!

Okay, Iím trying to remember the episode, but I canít give you an exact number. However at best as I can recall cigarette smoking man is in some cave. Mulder was there also and there seems to be some importance to these caves. These caves are possibly in Arizona, New Mexico, or even Mexico. To keep the conspiracy secret two helicopters descend and launch hellfire missiles into the cave structure. We assume that cigarette smoking man is dead, since how could you (anyone) survive the missile attack. So maybe he did die or not?
But I donít think the new series is a continuation of the old series but possibly a new startup. I donít think we have to strain to hard to link the new series with the old series except for the fact that Mulder and Scully are on a quest to find the truth (despite the efforts of the cabal conspirators).

It is kinda fuzzy, but I believe the "cigarette" man seemed to be in the care of a Indian woman out West before it seemed he was blown up.

But a good story always needs a good villain to get the people watching.

Disney realized they can not make "Rogue One" and "Han Solo" with not having Darth Vader in these movies.

The website has a 21 minute video discussing the upcoming series. Almost at the end they discuss the demise of cigarette smoking man, but explain, that apparently, he was able to escape unbeknownst to us.

I suppose this could be artistic license, which they may or may not go into detail, but suffice it to say that cigarette smoking man had apparently dodged the missile?

Chris Carter said when he started the X-Files, the FBI almost shut him down !

Carter claims the FBI told him he was too close to the truth.

They acknowledge the time span, but I don't know if they will explain the restart of the X files, a crashed saucer might have something to do with it?
Re: X Files

The first hour of the X-Files seemed "force" and "uneven".

Maybe the next 5 hours will settle down.

The idea of humans using alien technology against other humans, and the E.T.'s take the blame is an interesting idea.
Re: X Files
Post by drwu23 on Jan 25th, 2016, 10:17am

It was boring. I thought Carter would come out swinging but it was very low key. I hope it gets better.
btw...that's pretty much the same plot that always ran through the old one.

I was expecting more, maybe tonightís episode will tighten it up. I just hope this doesnít end up being Mulder and Scully looking for the elite cabal using alien technology to conquer the world. Seems a little far-fetched that we couldíve reversed engineered alien technology so long ago when the materials to create such a vehicle were probably not even invented yet.

The X-Files were trying to make Gillian Anderson to take much less money than David Duchovny.

She made them pay before she said yes to the x-Files reboot.

This is a unequal pay issue for women.

Sad to hear that and yet Hollywood is supposed to be so liberal but yet so hypocritical. Hopefully the season will be successful. Second episode was typical X files which I enjoyed.

In this series aliens are a given and the only question (to me) is how we interact with them, other than reverse engineering their technology?

13.5 million people still want to believe and watched the X-Files.

This number is said to be be a B+.

I would rate the first two episodes about a 7 on a scale 1 to 10.

But hey, it is like eating ice cream. You may not like the flavor, but it still tastes refreshing.

Season finale tonight. So far Iíve enjoyed the X-Files. More humor if you watch Mulder on his mushroom trip. He certainly is talented but I donít think he actually did the backflip.
Re: X Files
Post by drwu23 on Feb 22nd, 2016, 12:27pm

I'll be watching tonight but I have been disappointed in the quality of the writing and the acting. No where near as good as the original.
Re: X Files
Post by Gort on Feb 22nd, 2016, 1:00pm

I still like the X-Files, I watched it when it first came out. Sometimes it was pretty hokey. This latest test to see if enough of the public wanted more says yes. I certainly do that last episode with Mulder and his mushroom fantasy was too funny and I appreciate the seriousness as well comedy which in my mind makes it an entertainment hotspot, UFOs, humor, the right combination.

Now how much of this relates to aliens, the CIA, the FBI, or any other NSA objective beyond me but I sure enjoy it.

I also like forbidden planet, I married a monster from outer space, the blob, Star Trek, Star Wars, the invisible boy, with Robbie the robot, and many more.

On the edge of my seat and then to be continued. What a teaser not fair.

I give this episode a 10.
Re: X Files
Post by Nyx on Feb 23rd, 2016, 09:23am

I am a great fan of the X-Files, but I think the basis of his last hour was taken straight from the 1995 movie with Dustin Hoffman "Outbreak".

I have read Gillian Anderson is the hold out on making more X-Files because Chris Carter is always wanting her to take less money than David Duchovny.
Re: X Files
Post by drwu23 on Feb 23rd, 2016, 10:22am

Well.....the season ending 'cliff hanger' was certainly better than the last 3 episodes they did (which were poor imo) , but still not as good as the old days imo. They are using all of the old clichťs from the original show but not adding any new ideas or techniques. I hope Carter works out the bugs if they decide to make more.

Yes,waaay too many open ends for this not to be extended,If the performers are up for it.
Money talks though.

Re: X Files

From what I read, X-Files fans where either angry or wanting more in the way Carter ended the last hour.

Fox president, David Madden, says we are looking at the fan numbers right now in order to decide to kept going.
