Animal Planet is running another "Documentary" on mermaids.
Since UFO sightings evolve over time to resemble shapes from popular science fiction, how long will it be before we see mermaids being sighted that look like the ones on the program?

There was a recent ABC news piece that had a reporter review the mockumentary, and as well interview someone from the government (can't remember the science arm) and one of the people behind the show (either a producer or an Animal Planet exec).

Blah blah blah, no specific details, but the upshot is... there is a brief disclaimer at the end inside the credits, frustration from the government side, and a telling motive from Animal Planet side... their second most-watched show ever for the channel was the first Mermaids mockumentary... only trumped by the one on Dragons. Remember the paradigm. Maslow's Hierarchy as defined by American Exceptionalism, the capstone base* is Money. Money before truth, money before the public good.

A company has a duty to their shareholders first. They put a disclaimer in there. We shouldn't be complaining. We're just being picky. And remember, in the case of Akre vs. WTVT (Fox News affiliate), the courts ruled that the first amendment protects most all speech INCLUDING LIES, broadcast or not, as long as they are not libelous, slanderous, or treasonous. And I'm sure you all know of that case since we've been talking an awful lot about Monsanto...

Ok I am going to put my head on the chopping block lol, I believe in mermaidís fairyís goblins etc as I believe there is truth in mythology. Ok they may not be fairy book but lets say a tribe lived in Norway similar to pygmies only smaller, now to some six-foot Viking they would be real life hobbits or dwarfs and the mythology of small people would begin its journey through time and no doubt it would become more and more corrupt as it was told generation to generation. We just do not know what is hiding away on this planet and more so our oceans but something a long time back triggered such stories.

I agree. These stories started as the oral history of a group based on an event. In the case of small people every land and culture had these stories and it stands to reason something gave them the basic story to build on.
These programs all work from the 1939 Orsen Wells broadcast. They tell a story in a fashion that mimics a real documentary or newscast. There was one about 30 years ago about a terrorist boat in Charlston harbor with a nuke on board that was presented as a network news cast.
But my question is will these start a wave of mermaid sightings?

Thatís without doubt Skizicks, for some odd reason a large percentage of humanity let their imagination get the better of them. Take that film that was out just a few years back where abductees had a triangular mark imposed upon them, next thing you know we had a lot of people claiming abduction and having the triangular mark as in the film. This does not mean it is not possible for such marks to happen but it does show how easily TV or films can influence such mindset.
