Hi, fellow lunatics.

Maybe there are similar accounts you might point me to or help id what I saw.

I forget the date. Probably in the 90s. Summer. Rural area maybe 50 miles or so roughly NW of Columbus, Georgia in the USA. After dark but early evening, so maybe 9:30. I'm reasonably sure it was a clear night with at least some moonlight because of the way I remember the object disappearing behind trees which I recall as being backlit the way a moonlit sky would, but I can't swear to that. At the time I didn't think of that as significant. I was in the passenger side of a station wagon and my mother was behind the wheel. We had just driven around a few miles to check on a strong smoke smell, like a forest fire.

We had gotten back, were about to park and had come to a full stop. The motor was still running and the air conditioner was on. We were pointed due south. A glowing green isoceles triangle with a longitudinal dimension, the length we'll say, probably a little greater than the transverse, with the latter subtending an arc about like that of the full moon, entered our field of vision through the windshield as it came out from behind the roof or whatever you call the top part of an automobile, traveling south (the same direction we were pointed) and left our field of view as it was obscured by trees on the southern horizon, traversing maybe 30 degrees of arc before it was no longer visible. This took place so rapidly, a fraction of a second, that although we both saw it clearly and were startled by it, it was out of sight before we could exclaim on it. And then we were both like "DID YOU SEE THAT?!".

If it made a noise it wasn't loud enough to be heard through the closed windows over the AC and the engine noise. So if it was low and moderately sized, say for example 200 feet above ground, it might have been traveling a couple of hundred miles per hour perhaps. I haven't done the arithmetic, that's just a guesstimate. But if the size/altitude/speed was in that ballpark, it was uncommonly quiet. On the other hand if it were high enough for the lack of loud noise to be normal then it was traveiling at meteoric speeds. But I've never seen a meteor that was that broad and short. This wasn't too much skinnier than an equilateral triangle. Maybe a length half again the width.

I called Fort Benning 'cause the military fly a lot of stuff out of there, but they denied having anything up that could account for it.

And that's all I've ever done about it. Anybody know of similar reports? Is there some place else I should tell this? Any ideas?
