UPLOADING AND DOWNLOADING

This all looks very intimidating but once you have done it (just once) you will laugh at how easy it was. There are multiple steps for locating, copying, downloading and uploading pictures so I suggest that you print this page as to follow the steps properly while not having to click back into this post to read each step.

LOCATING PICTURES & MISCELLANEOUS
Copyrighted photos can be iffy. Most websites will state a warning notice within their Terms of Service and/or within the pictures properties so watch for that. You may bring your own photos in of course, excluding adult themes. Please try to keep your picture size reasonable. The larger the picture the longer it takes for a forum page to open for everyone.

GETTING STARTED
I am using Photobucket.com only as an example since it is free. You may use any photo website you wish.
Getting Started Sign-up Registration - Do this step first.
http://photobucket.com/register.php

As soon as you're in, click "account options". It's toward the top. Once inside, scroll down to Album Settings and click (edit my album settings). Photobucket currently has you set for public viewing but you will want to change that to "private". Then go back to your front page and let's just play with an existing picture you have in your computer first.

You can use the Photobucket Tutorial - click "Upload An Image From Your Computer"
http://photobucket.com/tutorials/upload.php

FROM YOUR COMPUTER TO PHOTOBUCKET
Or, you can take the easy road and click "BROWSE" in your new Photobucket and you'll see a file upload directly from your computer that you can move around in and find your picture. After you find it, double click on the picture (make sure it has no surrounding blank spots if it's coming from paint). After you've double clicked it simply click upload. After it's uploaded you'll see four separate addresses given the picture. Use the one on the bottom for forum posts. Forum avatars do not require the [img] on the address so in those cases use the second address.

At some point in Photobucket, if you decide to organize your pictures into sub albums and move any of those addresses to a sub album, you will have lost your original address and your pictures and avatar will become dead in the forum. Consequently, set subforums on the very day you set up your Photobucket so that this doesn't happen down the road. In other words, learn from my mistakes. lol

WEBSITE TO PHOTOBUCKET
Once you've found your picture on a website, right click the picture with your mouse. At the bottom of the box that opens you will see the word "properties". Click properties. In the new 'properties' box there will be an "http" address next to the address url. That http address should have the letters 'jpg' at the right end of the address. See below.

Copy that address url and click the words "web url" located in the blue line above the upload area in your Photobucket. Paste your web url on any of the three lines and click upload and you're done.

It is possible to bring jpg's into the forum directly from the original website, but in doing so, many times the originator will move the picture out and your picture may become dead. As well, you are robbing the originator of bandwidth, which they do not appreciate because it costs them $$. So place your website photos in your Photobucket instead and Photobucket foots the bill and it cost you nothing. Photobucket is an advertising company first, which pays for your bandwidth you are using. As well, they sell upgrades to your photobucket if need be. If your photobucket ever exceeds the bandwidth they've allocated you, just open up another one in a new name.

I don't know about artwork, but I have 500 vintage and out of copyright crochet and knitting patterns that I used to hawk on eBay, but it didn't pay off.

Anybody here crochet or knit?
