I classify UFO fans in two categories ; those who'd really like to 'believe' and those who have no choice.
When I was 16, 3 hunters and I saw a very large 'UFO' at around 10 AM in the upper Cowpasture River Valley in Bath County, Va. 1966. It was 6-7 miles away. I still have a problem with how big it was - it was an inverted top shape.
It had definite crenelations on the edges and projections on the underside. It's movement seemed unreal - so machinelike. It had a flat black kind of 'glow' with the sun glinting on it and the details of the machine inside the glow - this is the best I can describe it. We were fixing brunch. We were out of film, one of us was making a trip to the store at the time, for film.
We watched it for 10-15 minutes then it dissappeared.
We were naturally, flabbergasted since this was not some blinking light. It was an aircraft carrier size object with clear details evident.
The Ranger on the only road into that area told us, that
no one had been up that road, that year. But he was quite interested, as their were many 'sightings' going on in No. Va. in that time. We stopped in the next year, and
he said that he had found nothing, except some strange impressions in a meadow.
In the 30 years since then, every time I meet with the other hunters, I'd ask if they'd determined what it was. (My Dad and I were pretty sure if was an alien spacecraft - what else could it be?) Anyway the other guys, all of us in fact, hardly ever speak of it.
I will mention, that some interesting stuff subsequently happened to us when were were in this region. But nothing conclusive enough to mention. Last time I spoke with one. The last living one of us other than me, a few years back, he paused for a minute then with an intense look he said, "I don't think was from here!" This guy, 86 years old then had never even told his family members. I've become interested again, and I'm looking to talk with knowlegable people about it.
It's nice to be able to share this with people who don't think you're crazy.
